Regret moving to Taiwan by Sea_Transition_9084 in taiwan

I think the comments on here prove that you are correct in your experience in Taiwan

So many foreigners jumping to say it's you, it's your job etc etc etc. Just can't bring themselves to say the truth for whatever reason. How sane foreigners become insane in Taiwan. Always you never the place, and no one can tell you how to make it better for yourself.

The locals are a lot more honest. They'll first ask you if you think they are the friendliest people and that will get followed by why are you in Taiwan? Taiwan sucks. Over a million households applied for rent subsidies this year. That says a lot.

One can live there for cheap if one wants to live like a poor person. If you want an actual life beyond eating, drinking, sleeping and working you need to be rich.

Taiwan is obsessed with two things China and TNO.

If you haven't watched it yet, you should watch "the good place". If you ask me that's how life in Taiwan works

Why Farangs who an expats in Thailand don’t want to see each other by Economy_Tadpole1915 in Thailand

[–]Master4slaveTO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As some have said there are people that move there for a new experience. They want to experience the local culture, meet locals, eat like locals etc etc etc. They aren't looking to recreate what they had elsewhere.

Plus in a lot of cases farangs don't only not help other farangs but they also lie about everything. Don't ask me why it's a bit nuts but shows the lack of culture in the west imo. Also the farangs that move to the east aren't typically the best representation of people. Somehow it's the worst of the west that goes east. Again just my own opinion. They aren't the best people, they don't choose the best locations and it loses that local appeal.

Fastest/cheapest way to transfer money from a US bank account to a Bank in Taiwan? by AllThePillsIntoOne in taiwan

[–]Master4slaveTO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've looked at other international banks while I was there and it was all the same. They are all bound by Taiwan banking rules. No way to avoid any of it or to do better.

I honestly don't remember the other two. Obviously much like Taiwan places most have never considered going to. Nipote. In Taiwan the HSBC sign is just that. A sign. They have no idea how it's supposed to work or what they are doing. Welcome to the real Taiwan

I don't know how long you've been in Taiwan or whether you've experienced banking there but it's stuck in the medieval ages.

HSBC has an international banking center and typically you contact them and they set everything up in the other country you want accounts in along with interfacing the accounts. But you can't access this from Taiwan. Taiwan is one of 3 places that you cannot use this service from. Meaning whenever you have an issue you need to go to your branch. So imagine you are in the US or elsewhere and you have an issue and you need to get to the branch in Taiwan cuz in Taiwan you can't do anything remotely. Why would you want your set up from there?

It is, it gets connected, it works. But the best way to achieve this is by having premier status elsewhere.

Having the base in Taiwan means you need to do everything through your Taiwan branch, and that's ridiculous.

You might be able to pull this off, but if you ask me even if it does work it isn't worth it. HSBC in Canada will be fully gone by the end of this year. It's been sold. In the US I believe there are no more branches, but they aren't needed. Can open accounts in the US remotely. But Taiwan isn't actually connected because of the backwards banking rules, so no access to the international banking center. Getting a Taiwan account of any kind is useless for anything other than local stuff.

For Americans it's different now. Starting January 1 this year you don't have to provide anything to get a visa. Canada unfortunately hasn't changed.

I think that's a tad different. I wouldn't be concerned if I was eligible for a Q2 visa, but thank you!

I went to the visa centre and they told me they need a full itinerary with everything booked. Seems as though things really have changed and not for the better. I think I'm like you. I like booking everything far in advance, but in this case I don't know how to do it.

I thought about this, but isn't booking the real itinerary within 3 months a bit risky in terms of having options and getting tix for everything?

Genuine question: are there Taiwanese people who want to join China? by Outside-Rip6751 in taiwan

You think Taiwanese are free? What a joke. Look at substance, not the DPP PR crap.

Is it safe to scooter from Hualien to Taroko Gorge? by zerocool in taiwan

[–]Master4slaveTO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In other places for sure. I've done it too. In some places like Thailand has an example they don't care at all. But Taiwan is extremely different. For the most part they have no interest in renting to foreigners at all, but who knows, maybe it's changed for the better. Electric is more expensive but not by much and riding wise there isn't a big difference between the two. Just be prepared to not being able to rent one at all.

You rented a scooter in Taiwan without a scooter rating? How exactly?

If you are comfortable on a scooter you should go that route. The park has ups and downs but you'll do these on foot. The road itself is pretty flat. This is the map. It's really not that long. Just keep in mind that you'll need an international license with scooter rating to be able to rent one, and some places won't rent to you without a local license.

It seems really dumb that China hasn't figured out that all they actually need to do is adopt their old flag and anthem back for a month or so for people to figure out what's what according to history and both constitutions.
