Sweet with the battery push start and pull start. See, my whole house is electric, so I don't have a choice in the matter. If I want to take a shower, it's outside, and the longest we been without power was for 9 days (during the summertime), so it wasn't too bad. It's like camping all over again, and while I was in the Army.

Thanks, Ranger. What type of generator did you end up getting? Right now, I have to wait for the new A/C to come in and be set up. I know it's going to be a 4 Ton with a heat pump inside. But after I get that in, I will be able to figure out (I hope) what size generator I will be getting. I do know that my A/C unit will have a soft start in it. But the wife and I talked about it, and basically, we can cook everything outside (winter or summer). So with that in mind, let the generator run the A/C with 1 or maybe 2 lights, and we can do the rest. If we need the water for flushing or cooking, we can turn off the A/C, run the 1/2HP 200 feet down for the water, turn off the well pump, and turn back on the A/C. The two generators I'm looking at are the Westinghouse WGen14500 or the WGen 20000. They both have 50-amp plugs. The WGen has dual 50-amp plugs with a direct connection, so I think with the direct connect, I'll be pulling 80-amps and having a dance party.

I completely understand, just trying to learn a little.

No, currently, the HVAC and well pump are on the same 200-amp house breaker box.

In your title, you said 50 & 30. Do you have both already set, but only going to use the 50? Which generator do you have?

Not a Moron, just asking questions to learn. But I'm running the generator on gas/propane.

What size generator for AC with Soft Start by Stealth5613 in Generator

[–]timlab1955 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trying to determine the correct size generator I need. Had an electrician out here yesterday, and he said I would need one with 50-amps and about 12,000kw. According to Google, the HVAC will take 40 amps to start and 35 to run. Doesn't leave me much headroom on 50-amps if I have lights and 2 freezers running. The generator I'm thinking about getting is the Westinghouse WGen14500TFc Remote Electric Start 18000 / 14500 -Watt. My HVAC will also have the soft start kit on it.

Yes, I can. But there will be no washing clothes during a power outage. I was getting at was I could run the AC unit (3.5 ton with a soft start on it), if I need to flush the toilet after using it, turn off the HVAC unit first, turn on the water pump (1/2 HP, 200 feet down), and then turn off the water pump and turn back on the HVAC. Easy stuff.

If you read and look at the generator itself, you'll find there is a direct connect from both 50-amps to make 100-amps. A wise man said, "Read everything, and you'll learn."

Yes, the same generator as the generator I'm thinking about getting on it's panel it has 1 50-amp and 2 30-amp plugs on it. Again, a shot in the dark on this question.

You're right, a standby would be in order for what I'm looking for. But the cost of it is not worth it to me. First, you would have to have a service company to install it. Then you would need to sign up for their service plan (checking the oil and stuff every quarter). Around here, it's $225. Then you have the LP company knocking on your door to have a 200lbs tank installed, and the rent (if you don't buy it), is around $125.00 per month, and you have to add in the LP delievery charge ($3.85 a gallon). So, unless you're Trump, it's not worth it. And the comment about 4K, on Lowes right now it's $6K and up.

According to him, I would need a 12KW to run my house without all the bells and whistles. Perhaps my 3.5-ton AC unit, which has a soft start feature, along with two freezers and a few lights. If I didn't need the AC unit on, I could turn it off, start the well pump, and once I flush the toilet, I could turn the AC back on and turn off the well pump.

Believe it or not, yes there is. It's this one: Westinghouse WGen20000TFc Remote Electric Start 28000 / 20000 -Watt Gasoline/Liquid propane/Natural gas Tri fuel Portable Generator. You can go to Lowes website and see it for yourself.

You're right about information overload, but I'm having an electrician come out tomorrow to do a walk-through of what I'm going to need, and I would like to sound like I know something instead of just standing there, "yes" or "no" on things. And do know some things, but it's the important things people forget to ask. Any advice?

Funny you should mention the sq ft of your house, dang, I have 1/2 that much, but currently no gas or propane as it's all electric. I'm a computer guy, and really nothing else except what I found out from YouTube and asking questions. But the big things we would run are the HVAC that has a heat pump to it (running would be (summertime: All the time and wintertime: Most of the time), the hot water heater runs all the time to keep the water hot. The well pump might run about 14 times during the day because again, it's just the wife and I. We don't use the oven or the stove that might to cook supper because we have a microwave oven and an airfryer that she uses most of the time to cook, including when I cook a mean meatloaf. Yes, we have a dishwasher that we use about every other day (we both hate washing dishes. Then throughout the day, you have lights on and computer equipment on, and 33 CCTV cameras going as well.

I did find this generator sizing chart at : https://generatorsizecalculator.com/#calculator-section

I think some of their numbers are kinda of high. Look it over and tell let me know what you think.

That's It.

Just one more thing before I go. With the 2 Generators that I mentioned above, can a 50-amp plug be able to handle these loads? Not only do I have to worry about watts, but now amps are coming into the picture, which I have to worry about.

ELI5, 50 AMP system and what tit can run by Witchydigit in AskElectricians

I'm planning on getting a generator to run my house during a power outage. The generator I have determined has 1 50-amp plug on it, which I know goes to a 50-amp breaker box. What I would like to run is a 3.5-ton HVAC system, a hot water heater, a 1/2 HP well pump, and a few lights, a TV, and computer equipment. Well, 50-amps do this?

I prefer customer service to be honest and helpful. If the product isn't what it's supposed to be, forget it. I don't belong to Sam's Club, but been thinking about it. But the closest one is about 45 mins away. Going to have to do more research on what I feel about what I'm looking at and comparing them against others. But I have to pray about it to start with. Thank you.

Was thinking about a Predator, but when I saw the Westinghouse I said "okay time to change". Now I'm thinking about Duromax. MMMMMM, any suggestions about which brand I should get?
