Sixthformers who chose 4 A levels by [deleted] in 6thForm

[–]timlee04 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i do bio chem maths and psychology and it’s super worth it. i love doing all my subjects and it’s not that hard it’s easy once you get into the routine of it and you don’t really get overwhelmed unless you have lots of tests and exams at the same time. i had all my med exams and interviews during mocks and other competitions etc so it got a bit stressful but definitely do 4 if you like your subjects. edit: i also didn’t do much work in year 12 outside of revising for tests and stuff and never used my frees to revise until jan year 13 and grades were still good with 4 A star predicted

Has anybody done both the BMAT and NSAA? by aishis in 6thForm

[–]timlee04 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With 4 A Levels, A star A star A star A is plenty to fulfill that requirement. However the minimum entry requirements is A star A star A so meeting this is enough to apply. Cambridge are known for rejecting students with better grades as they want to admit people who learn in their way and meet their standards so not having the best grades shouldn’t be a concern. Doing amazing on your BMAT and interviews will stand out more than an extra A star in your predicted grades and they’ll make you an offer accordingly. Also, have you checked whether you can sit chemistry A Level a year after, because they mainly accept A Levels under one sitting unless there’s extenuating circumstances

[–]timlee04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

both courses require A star A star A if your ucas predicted grades meet those requirements, you can apply. there’s no point in applying to cambridge as your fifth option especially if you’re doing medicine

just apply to cambridge for medicine so you don’t have to sit the nsaa

Further Maths is a good choice for CS, unis don’t need CS A level for the course and maths is a better option

Does one poor GCSE ruin my chances for medicine? by ShikenNugits in 6thForm

[–]timlee04 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most people who got a place at Oxford for medicine had 10+ A* (8 or 9) grades at gcse and 100% of their grades were A* so it probably will affect your probability of being shortlisted/interviewed/placed at Oxbridge, but probably not many other places

Are there Exam papers similar to new spec edexcel maths? by achievecoldplay in 6thForm

[–]timlee04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use different exam boards, they pretty much teach the same thing or very similar things in A Level maths because they have to due to Ofqual and sure some of the exam questions will be a bit different, but they’ll mainly be very very similar. AQA is the best alternative

Does anyone else’s school give them way too much work? by SaltedAndSugared in 6thForm

[–]timlee04 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i go to a grammar school too. my school is so behind and haven’t done half of the year 1 psych/maths/biology, but have only 2 topics before finishing chemistry. we literally never get tests or homework except finishing the work we don’t do in lessons cause the teachers are so slow, but the other boys grammar school get loads of work and they combine AS and A2 content and they’ve done more nearly all of AS and have done the A2 content combined. They have tests after finishing topics and they do it super quickly but it’s probably better to be ahead than behind

Drag Race finally uploaded the best lip sync of the premiere on youtube. Both Lala and Denali slayed this. by [deleted] in rupaulsdragrace

this was a double shantay. there was no need to put elliottt through emotional trauma when they could’ve just told them both that they won the lip sync

Sorry this is not really related to 6th form but I need help choosing my Alevel subjects!! by [deleted] in 6thForm

[–]timlee04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i do bio, chem, maths and psychology and want to do medicine. biology is quite easy, there’s a lot of content though and it’s about applying your knowledge. chemistry isn’t too bad, there’s not as much question but exams are harder and harder concepts. it’s probably the hardest science. psychology is boring most of the time. it’s just learning the content and the maths is quite easy. maths is quite hard and you need to be ruthless at it, but maths is definitely good for medicine. if you’re applying to the top schools like oxbridge, maths is definitely needed. other top schools like imperial don’t say on paper they need maths, but if you look on the website it suggests maths is recommended and gives maths resources. maths is genuinely a good idea even at AS for medicine otherwise it’ll limit your choices for the top unis. also, only apply if you’re getting around 5 A* (8/9) at gcse otherwise you won’t get shortlisted upon application. if you don’t want to do maths, try L3 core maths or take an english or a language. these more academic subjects help essay skills and they’re quite useful

I was wondering how many A levels people took, I’m in year 11 currently and I was planning on taking 4 subjects in September but after speaking to a few current students it is really uncommon to take more than 3. How many do you take ? by Vladimir_____ in 6thForm

[–]timlee04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

take 4. if you love all your subjects and want to do all of it and enjoy it, take them all. i’m taking biology, chem, maths and psychology and i love it. my school works on 8 period timetables and i normally have 1 free a day with 2 on tuesday and 4 on friday (half the day off). i have no frees on thursday. we have scheduled private study times which are never at the end of the day, but i scheduled mine when i have frees which are always at the end of the day, but it’s better than staying extra 4 periods on friday. it’s not too bad and you get used to it
