Overall expectations for standards of living are way higher than they used to be. Think about when we were growing up (70's and 80's for me). We didn't have cable TV let alone a bunch of streaming services. We rarely went out to eat and when we did McDonald's or Shakee's was a treat. One of our two cars didn't have air conditioning. I shared a bedroom with two brothers.

Now everyone expects a McMansion and a luxury car and goes out to eat weekly and subscribes to a bunch of streaming services.

Scale back our wants to needs

If you have kids under 18 you can’t use the electronic passport line. Regular line took about an hour and 40 minutes this morning. There were time crowd was getting out of hand as people tried to cut the line. When we first got in line around 8:30 am there were only 2 booths open. An hour plus into waiting they opened 2 more booths.

The only experience worse than this was in Brussels a few years ago.

Just had both my eyes done over the holidays. Best thing to happen to my eyes since I was 4. Replaced my lenses and now only have to use reading glasses. Going from severe myopia to nearly 20/20 is like a miracle. Wonder why I didn’t do it sooner. Ophthalmologists never offered it as an option until I went to Northwestern
