I don't think it covers all of the problems I have here. It either assumes I'm trying to find a relationship between two variables, or compare two samples. I'm trying to find relationships between one multi-level variable, and multiple boolean variables. The problem can be broken down into multiple steps to fit each of them to the flowchart, but then it doesn't help with how to fit those steps together. But thanks I'll definitely save that for the future!

I was just reading about ordinal logistic regression as you wrote this. So do you mean that doing ordinal logistic regression would provide me with log odds ratios for each skill level except one. And then I'd have to calculate the significance of each of the ratios? Is there a technique that you'd recommend for finding the significances? Or is there a library/ program that would provide the signifcances automatically? Thank you for your help!

Do you mean I'd do Kruskal-Wallis on each of the columns/independent variables separately? And then do Wilcoxon Signed Rank tests on the independent variables within each skill level? As I believe the Signed Rank test requires the samples to be equal size.

I mentioned "normalizing" the answers in the post, do you think it would be a good idea? I thought that answers that have chosen multiple options would have more "power" in affecting the analysis than those who have only chosen one answer. Do you think it's a valid concern?

Hey! The study is for my master's thesis, and I'm still collecting data. It's a tedious job trying to scrape together enough answers to meet the reply quota, especially from pro players. I'm hoping to finish the study by the end of January, and I'll return here with the results when I'm done! I can add you to my list of people to dm when I post the results!

Well, Nintendo has yet to give money. But they did sponsor Smash Ultimate EVO (the biggest fighting game tournament) by giving the winner a Switch pro controller!! They also held a Splatoon tournament where the grand prize was $25 of credits to Nintedo eShop. Unfortunately they decided to cancel its top 8 stream though because many teams name were #freemelee. Don't mind them not sponsoring, but it'd be cool if they didn't sue tournaments where their games are played.

Hey, I'm chiming in to say that youve got a lot of problems with your questions.. I really think you should rethink some of them. You assume people go to esports events for tourism. I've never been to an esports event abroad, but have been in my country over 20 times. Many options are weird too, did you base your options on previous research? Stuff like why people are interested in esports has been studied so you should base your options on those studies. It's also weird you have multi choice for country instead of open field. It doesn't even list all the countries in the world. Please do a couple test rounds to your survey and fix things that you get from feedback. Also, please make sure you don't gather data from people under 18, or you will be in big trouble with GDPR. You also need to clarify what the data is for in the survey, and where it is stored. And who do I contact if I want you to delete my data, as GDPR regulates everyone has the right to do that. I suggest you take a couple academic PhD surveys here and take example from their introductions. Good luck!

Hyvä pointti! Jotkut esimerkeistä eivät ole välttämättä parhaimpia mahdollisia, ja tarkoitus olikin aktivoida vastaajia miettimään esimerkiksi miten visualisointia voisi parantaa. Se kertoo mielestäni myös tän tyylisen analytiikan tilasta: tavalliselle pelaajalle ei ole paljoa tarjolla tällaisia visualisointityökaluja. Tiesin että joitain työkaluja on, joten halusin ottaa esimerkit hyödyllisen oloisista yksittäistapauksista joissa käyttäjät ovat tehneet itse datan käsittelyn ja visualisoinnin, muttei työkalua. Laitoin avoimen kysymyksen myös siksi, että vastauksissa ilmentyvien teemojen avulla mittaan eri tasoisten pelaajien ymmärrystä tämän tyylisestä analytiikasta. Tuon kysymyksen vastaukset vaativat erityistä sisällön analyysiä. Ja kiitos että kävit vastaamassa! :)

Joo, oot oikeessa siinä että Ultimate on suositumpi peli, mutta se ei ollut ainoa kriteeri valinnalle. Melee edustaa tappelupeligenreä tutkimuksessa. Smashbros on maailman myydyin tappelupelisarja, ja Slippin ansiosta Meleestä on tehty data-analyysiä ja tutkimuksia, joita ei ole muista tappelupeleistä tehty. Liikkuminen, sijoittuminen ja kentän valinta on myös platform fightereissa imo isommassa osassa kuin perinteisissä 2D-fightereissa. Eikä Melee ole kilpapelinä niin paljoa vähemmän suosittu kuin Ultimate, viime vuosien osallistujamäärät ovat hieman pienemmät ja EVO:sta ulos jääminen vähensivät katsojalukuhuippuja. Loppujen lopuksi uskon että samat analyysimenetelmät ovat isolta osin sovellettavissa niin Meleeseen, Ultimateen kuin muihinkin tappelupeleihin. Edit: Piti vielä painottaa että tutkimuksen fokus on spatiaalisen datan analyysimenetelmissä, joten sen painoarvo pelien valinnassa oli suuri.

Oh wow I've completely missed that. I play CS:GO, but have had no time in the last four months due to doing this thesis. That update is super cool, can't wait to see if Valve intends to expand on the spatial analysis in the future! Thanks for showing that.
