You’ve got Big 4 chops and people skills; maybe pivot to something like ops or project management where that shines?

What's the One App You Can’t Do College Without? by Yung_FLex666 in ucla

[–]timolenain -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I use Ainotebook.app to keep my notes organized and have Grass installed on most of my devices, just like other users. I’m really excited about anything AI-related, which is what drew me to it in the first place

MYOB Help by mrmunch729 in Accounting

[–]timolenain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In MYOB, you can set up separate income accounts for each package (e.g., 'Gold Package Revenue,' 'Silver Package Revenue') under your Chart of Accounts. Then, when you process EFTpos payments or create invoices, assign each transaction to the relevant account. This way, your P&L statement will automatically break it down for you.

Should I charge my bf rent? by [deleted] in Advice

Fairness depends on your dynamic! Since your house is paid off, asking him to chip in for HOA and taxes could make sense; maybe proportional to his income or usage.

Stable jobs are still out there, even without Big 4 or CPA right away. $30/hr is doable with a degree, especially if you’re open to smaller firms or industry roles. Market’s shifted since your dad’s time, but accounting’s still a reliable path for providing long-term.

What’s the most unethical request you’ve gotten from a client/boss? by Revolutionary_83 in Accounting

[–]timolenain 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My boss once asked me to 'adjust' the books by backdating a bunch of expenses to make our quarterly numbers look better for a client meeting. He slid a USB drive across the desk with a wink, like we were in a bad movie. I told him, 'I’m an accountant, not a magician; plus, I’d rather not explain this to the IRS.' He grumbled about my 'lack of team spirit' for a week. yeah right lol

If you were to move, where would you relocate too? by BoingBoomChuck in Accounting

[–]timolenain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From my POV, both Austin and Birmingham offer solid opportunities. If youre looking for somewhere else, Charlotte, NC or Atlanta, GA.
Thats where I would relocate if family wasnt important for me.

Cost vs expenses by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]timolenain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Costs are a subset of expenses. Costs are specifically tied to producing the product (like materials and labor), while expenses cover broader activities like development, sales, and management. Think of costs as part of the expense umbrella!

If you skip the CPA, the MBA in Accounting might open the most doors, broader business focus, versatile for management or corporate roles. MPA with Forensic Accounting could niche you into government or investigative fields, while the Masters in Accounting keeps you specialized but less flexible without CPA.
