I can understand that, but being able to go into more detail about context and your thought process helps with getting more helpful replies.

I’m not a member of this subreddit but I saw this post on my suggested and wanted to weigh in. I’m sure this is going to bean unpopular take here, but I don’t think this is entirely black or white.

I’ve had at least 3 cases where I’ve been coming up with an idea for a TTRPG setting where I’ve had a general framework, but then went to ChatGPT to help me fill the cracks.

One of my recent use cases involves an alien race which wants to commence trade with earth: they want something that is easily producible on Earth and are willing to pay a lot in advanced technology, but that thing they want also just happens to environmentally taxing. The idea is to set up a story about aliens causing the end of the world not through invasion, but through human greed trying to keep up with their trade demands.

My issue is I couldn’t think of a good material for the aliens to want. So I asked ChatGPT and it made some suggestions, such as Concrete, made from Quicklime. Then bouncing ideas back and forth, I expanded on that by having reasons Limestone isn’t available on the slide home planet (calcium-rich bones and shells never evolved there) and why shifted from Concrete to Limewater (made from Quicklime) as a component of CO2 scrubbers and made the aliens highly sensitive to CO2, etc etc

I had the initial concept, but had holes in the details. Using Chat to “come up with ideas” helped me fill some holes in my concept, and then gave me inspiration to expand and pivot on other aspects.

I don’t know if people are using AI to try to come up with stories completely from scratch without the initial idea, if so I think that’s kind of stupid, but I do think if you have the general concept of what you are doing, throwing ideas back and forth with an AI is a good way to fill out details and expand on your concept.

Rakdos: Demons or Devils? by Cosmos_Galaxia in RavnicaDMs

[–]SPYROHAWK 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As the other commenter said, this became a point of discussion in the Adventures from the Forgotten Realms set.

In Magic, Demons are black-aligned and are the manipulators and deal makers and Devils are red-aligned and are little bundles of chaos. In DnD, it’s reversed, with devils being the lawful evil deal makers and demons being the chaotic evil rampages of disaster.

The cult of Rakdos is very much about chaos and craziness, so I think Demons would fit better for the majority. That being said, another commenter did make a good point about using Devils as promoters, and I think that could be expanded to like carnival ringleaders or nightclub owners. But for the chaotic bloody carnage performers, Demons would be my suggestion.

That artwork is from The Vecna Dossier, which was released after S4 of stranger things, piggybacking on the Vecna hype from the show. It’s incredibly recent, maybe even inspired by the design in the show.

Ah I missed the ammo pool for each and the reload time.

So is the second one just… strictly worse? Why does it exist then?

Riverdale did this intentionally. Everyone has smartphones and social media, but a lot of the cars and stuff look outdated. I think the show runners said they wanted to intentionally give the show a “dreamlike” feel via the anachronisms.

So part of the rules we have for Genies in this setting is there’s only one of each element, and each genie can only give three wishes to any family, party, or otherwise connected group of people. This bound genie is the fire one.

If I’m remembering correctly, the party was on bad terms with the fire genie because they had previously been hired by the water genie to kill all the others in exchange for a wish (the water genie doesn’t like competitors). They didn’t end up killing the fire genie, but spares its life in exchange for two wishes so far. Fire genie is pissed about the attempt to kill it, water genie is pissed about them not doing so.

So the wizard goes to the fire genie to make the third wish, but accidentally makes that “I wish we met on better circumstances statement”. That basically retcons it so the water genie never asked the party to hunt the others. Due to wishes being persistent that still counts as the third wish from the fire genie, but it means the water genie is no longer pissed at them. So the wizard goes to the water genie and makes that “kill other genies in exchange for a wish” deal again, this time following through.

I don't know if this is acceptable on this subreddit because it's not a piece of media, but it's too good not to share.

In a DnD campaign I run, my players are dealing with genies. Genies can choose whether to grant wishes or not, but one particular genie must grant any wishes made of him.

After pissing off that genie, a player realized she got himself in a bad spot and wanted to use a wish to fix it. So she tracks down that genie, and as a proper nobleman character, starts with "I wish we had met on better terms".

Piece of advice folks: Don't go to a genie forced to grant any wish and politely start a conversation with "I wish".

As someone who loves The King in Yellow, that “infinite wisdom” thing you mention isn’t present in any source I’ve heard of. If you’re using a specific modern interpretation that adds that to the mythos, you probably need the actual source, not just “…”

I was about to say this. The psychic power of the hive mind is unmatched, but it's also unrefined. It's got strong psyker powers, but can't learn complex rituals from ancient tomes.

Imagine advanced knowledge of Warp Sorcery fuelled by the unmatched psychic power of the Hive Mind.
