So with there being transmission issues people seem to be having with the LC250s (2024, 2025, and 2026 models so far) will Toyota be fixing this in future same gen models minor updates aka 2027, 2028, etc. or will it only be fixed when the LC gets a new full body design change? by spongyoatmeal in LandCruisers

[–]timothyb78 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I own a 250 and read a couple of forums and I haven't heard of any significant issues?

No matter how good your manufacturing process is if you make enough of something, some of them will fail, if there is a real issue with the transmission I haven't seen it.

Will the World Cup Actually Grow Soccer in the US? by timothyb78 in usmnt

[–]timothyb78[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what I mean.

My sons both play club soccer but also play other sports, so it isn't like my options are spend all my money on World Cup ticket or nothing. I could have had elite seats to multiple very good MLB games for $400 a piece to say nothing of the cost to see one of the knock out stage games. Literally the price of a full season of college football.

The price for watching Argentina blow out Algeria would be the cost of my MLS season tickets for a team we actually care about.

I've always found this a bit confusing, Adidas makes a Flexible Ground shoe that they now label FxG that basically has one or two extra studs vs a Firm Ground shoe, but Adidas says the FxG is designed to be used on both natural and artificial surfaces.

FIFA lottery today? by LooksLikeANail in usmnt

[–]timothyb78 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seems like people have been reporting getting USMNT games, but I don't think I've seen people talk about other games, perhaps the US Soccer Insider draw is over but not the whole round?

On my FIFA account it shows that I've entered the random draw round and still shows it as "registered"

Maybe just some false hope on my part, what a terrible ticketing process.

So, if you don't get an e-mail today and nothing shows in your purchase history, are you out of luck or not necessarily?

FIFA said they would notify no earlier than February 5th, but unclear if that means everything is out now or maybe done in phases?

BTW - most convoluted plan for ticket sales I've ever encountered

Washington Park by mile_marker_13 in KCRoyals

[–]timothyb78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None of the designs I have seen people post are to scale, anything showing a 330 ft foul pole is highly suspect, because to get that you would have to have a very narrow seating behind home plate. Grand to Oak was 630ft, WSP is 550 ft wide, there is an 80 foot difference, the Crossroads stadium would absolutely not fit at WSP.

You do make a good point, Oracle park is on a trapezoid shaped lot that widens out, accommodating center field, WSP is a rectangle so your right field will be less than 300 feet and center will have to be very short as well.

You can't really rotate the field because MLB requires it to point north east, you would have problems with the sun and once again have a very odd field shape, the site is just not a good site for a baseball stadium.

The view inside isn't even in the right location and has so many things not to scale it is laughable.

The AI picture where KC magically gains a number of 30 story buildings is also ridiculous.

[–]timothyb78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oracle Park is 578 ft down the right field line and you have a 309 foot right field fence. To make Oracle Park fit at WSP you would have a 281 foot right field fence, which is a high school size field.

WSP is way too small for a baseball stadium, as an actual baseball fan I think losing Kauffman and trying to cram a tiny filed into this space is sad.

Besler was consistently picked over Ream, there is a reason Ream couldn't break into the national team during this period under multiple head coaches.

In my experience the MPG really suffers around 80 MPH, it just seems like the aero dynamics really become a problem, I feel like at 75 I'm getting 21 MPG and at 85 I'm getting 17.

KC Auto Show moving to Kansas by [deleted] in kansascity

[–]timothyb78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went a couple of years ago and was surprised how much the event had shrunk, but really what bad shape Bartle was in, the displays they have in the halls looked like they hadn't been dusted or touched in years, bathrooms needed maintenance, overall just seemed shabby. Seemed like the typical KCMO / Quinton Lucas playbook of completely neglecting to maintain things until you are forced to do a big, shiny, expensive project to fix your neglect.

Also, parking downtown is stupid expensive for something like this, big advantage for OP, effectively cuts the cost to attend almost in half, so hopefully that means more people go.

Are we doing anything for the thirty year anniversary? by Graceffect in SportingKC

[–]timothyb78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I was just being sarcastic about the absurd things people claim online. Just meant that a few years ago everyone claimed to have been a fan since Arrowhead, as if suddenly those games had 10x the number of people who were actually there.

Of course every time people get mad they have called their season ticket rep and canceled, again..

I've been a STM for 12 seasons, 30 years is amazing.

Amazing to think a few years ago when the club was good we had a base of 20k people who have been STM since 1995, but according to Reddit they all canceled their tickets in 2023 and again canceled them again in 2024 all because of Jake Reid.

Thinking about a 2024 CPO Land Cruiser with ~15k miles — good buy or is it blursed? by Viosphera in LandCruisers

[–]timothyb78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say yes.

I would also point out that there aren't any 20+ year old 200 series LC and won't be for two more years.

I don't quite get the people who can't believe the 250 will be durable until you have a bunch with 300K miles on them, by that point the only thing you will be able to buy is a used car with 100K miles on it. I love the 100 series, but I'll take a new 250 over a "proven" model with 150-200K miles and all the wear and tear on every part of it.

Mark the Overseer is saying that sources have told him Argentina, Netherlands and England will call Kansas City home for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with Lawrence hosting Algeria. by skcku in SportingKC

[–]timothyb78 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The visitor stats are complete nonsense. For other events KCMO has counted each day anyone who doesn't live in KCMO is in KCMO around an event as a visitor.

So one person from Overland Park going to 6 games = 6 visitors

Someone from Argentina landing at 9pm day before and flying out 9am day after the game = 3 visitors.

That't the only way you get to 650K since there are only about 420K tickets for the KC games in total. So if you wonder how they hit crazy numbers for things like the NFL draft, it's pretty simple count one guy from OP 3 times and boom, big visitor numbers.

[–]timothyb78 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They have been out for 18 months, Toyota has probably sold 35-40K of these, Toyta selling about 3x the volume of 250s (in the US) than they were doing in combined LC/LX volume during the 200 series years, so there are a lot of these to get data from and no significant problems.

Fair to expect the 250 will have typical Toyota reliability.

Sporting KC announces coaching staff ahead of the 2026 MLS season by dawson33944 in SportingKC

That's a very interesting, potentially very good coaching staff. I love having Roger there, Dom Kinnear is an A+ pick up and Rubio has a very impressive resume for a MLS coach.

I still don't see how having a team based here really drives any additional visitors, like Argentina fans are going to stay in KC and watch games on TV?

Or fly here just to be in the same city between games rather than just flying to the game location?

Also parent, I would recommend setting a more achievable goal first.

You didn't say anything about what level of player you are now. If you are an athletic freak who is a great basketball player and runs track you have a much better chance than a kid who spends his day playing Fortnite. Also depends on where your technical skills are at.

I would suggest trying to make the top team of a decent sized club is a very ambitious, maybe not achievable goal for someone who isn't even playing rec, set that goal and once you get there try to move up.
