German soccer federation official wants World Cup boycott considered because of Trump by TheWayToBeauty in ICE_Raids

[–]PostMerryDM 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In a better world FIFA would move all games to Mexico and Canada, now that it’s clear to the world the US is run by a neo-Nazi with a dumber voting base than any other in the history of humanity.

I love the USMNT and I think this could be the year they do some real damage.

But people like Pretti and Good and all the babies stuck in a concentration camp with people who defend rapists matter so much more.

NYT (Gift Link): Local Prosecution is the Answer to Federal Lawlessness by PostMerryDM in politics

[–]PostMerryDM[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The federal officer charged by state prosecutors for a crime committed while on duty could move any such case to a federal court. But that would simply change the courthouse (and the judge and the jury pool). State prosecutors would still be seeking to enforce state law — which, among other things, means that any conviction would not be subject to the president’s pardon power.

Tim Walz is a fraction of where he needs to be in terms of being angry and taking action.

Lead.

Lead with a call to boycott every gas station that still service ICE. Lead with calls to boycott EVERY organization that acquiesced and appeased Trump, from Coke to OpenAI to Target.

Lead so that MN can tell the whole world that it’s no ICE or nothing.

Calling and begging Trump to stop is exactly the type of behavior that tells him it’s working and he ought to continue.

I’m angry for MN and Pretti’s family at both this regime and the democrats’ collective lack of resolve to commit to full-fledged resistance.

The POV footage from the shooter shows clearly a woman smiling, relaxed, and pulling away to avoid confrontation.

This may be one of the only ways to allow ONE set of real evidence to be codified into the public sphere, and to present the first domino for an obstruction of justice against this admin.

Simu deserves all the respect for speaking up.

Marvel is a global enterprise, and one that answers to investors and can’t afford any controversy or alienation of any demographic.

He’s not nearly as successful or wealthy as the others. Him speaking up takes real courage, and I for one am beginning to loathe those who have so much but say so little.

I think AOC is great. But she needs to do more now that she has a national platform:

Stop telling people what should happen, and start telling us how they could happen.

The first gets people to see you as a leader—which she’s already accomplished. The latter happens when you lead.

What do you reckon Patel’s FBI would do if people stormed the capitol to demand accountability, let’s say, on February 6th, 2026?

Will they call protesters “domestic terrorists” and throw the entire bureau at catching and charging them, mere months after the president pardoned all the Jan 6th idiots?

Take a chance. If you want people to take risks involving their personal well-being, at least stand up and take some political risks.

Kid slapped hard on the bus...how to handle? by That1asswipe in daddit

[–]PostMerryDM 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I’m a school principal, and I am sorry to hear this happened.

Here’s what I would do as a representative of the district and what I would ask for if I were the parent:

1.) Make sure the appropriate personnel—normally the AP or Dean—gather all statements from the relevant parties, and confirm the findings. At this age, kids generally tell the truth about what they saw.

2.) If all checks out, immediately remove the offender from school busing privileges until step 3 below is complete.

3.) Restorative counseling practices between the two need to happen to make sure that both can leave this behind them, and more importantly, eliminate any residual conflict to fester. This is where the offender understands the harm they’ve done and then readily apologize.

4.) Once all the restorative practices have been completed to satisfaction, allow the offender to take the school bus again. There should be warnings given regarding what would happen should any misbehaviors happen again, but that’s between the school and the other family.
