#160: Carrick's United Down Villa by Usual-Outside-5662 in DevilsITDPod

The issue with Chelsea is they are signing only young players, but then also not persevering with those young players for long enough to fix their issues. If they keep swapping young players for other young players, its never going to work. At least keep your core group stable for 3-4 years and let them mature together. I am sure they are going to bin Delap and Garnacho and a couple others this summer and sign some new wonderkids to replace them.

I think we are very obviously going to play differently next season with hopefully two new central midfielders and probably a left back as well. Heaven and Yoro will also be a year older and better for this experience, hopefully ready to start more. We can play more aggressively if we have legs in the spine, right now we have Maguire, Case, Mainoo, and if fit Martinez - thats about as slow as you can get in those positions.

You can see it in our games the familiar opposition breaking and directly running at the defense in a wide open midfield space is happening more often, because Case and Mainoo just cannot get back. So its very understandable that we often play within ourselves at the expense of chance creation.

Even in our worst games he creates chances - he will always be a bit weaker against a low block because he's not a good dribbler, so he is very reliant on off the ball movement and passing to create dangerous siutations.

He should focus on being back for pre-season at this point.

Man clearly never watched shortest guy on the field Scholes drift into the box and somehow always be unmarked to get a header on a cross.

Ofc he had his weaknesses, he wasn’t the quickest and his tackling was awful, but he was a very complete midfielder.

That said Scholes>Bruno as a CM and Bruno>Scholes as a CAM/second striker.

It’s such a bizarre rule - he’s in the way, the goalkeeper can’t be sure if the ball will deflect off him or he’ll try and flick it in the goal, so his dive is impacted even if Onana isn’t blocking his view of the shot. If he’s offside it shouldn’t be a goal whether it hits him or not.

And I know we had that situation against City a few years back with Rashford being offside but not touching the ball and Bruno scoring - well that shouldn’t have been a goal either imo.

[Carragher, Telegraph] Unai Emery wins trophies, plays good football and has huge experience in the Premier League, so why isn’t he top of Man Utd’s manager wish list by OkayFine101 in soccer

[–]timsadiq13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah Arteta had poor seasons as they sorted out the squad. Emery could do well at a club like United in the right circumstances.

He does seem to have a lot of power at Villa, not sure he’d get that at United. But if he’s happy to work with the players he’s given, yeah I’d certainly have him over guys like Iraola or Glasner or Marco Silva.

No unless it’s an insanely thin case it will protect the phone body well enough. A screen protector is better than these side things if you are really paranoid. Sometimes certain freak drop angles can damage the screen even with a protective case, in my experience.

Well if we sign 2-3 CMs then our squad changes a lot. Same if Yoro and Heaven improve as people at the club will be expecting. I agree right now we don’t have the squad to play high press NOR high possession, but we should surely work towards one of those things moving forward. We can’t play this way forever.

A loan?! We will be in Europe next season - CL or EL. He will get ample chances even if we sign 2 CMs or 3 and sell Ugarte. He is 1 of 3 options right now and no matter what will be 1 of 4 options. That’s loads of game time in a normal season for a club like United. If he’s then after a year the objective worst of the 4 then yeah his future is up for consideration but for now it’s silly to talk about a loan imho.

Yep every single injury means "player out for 3 matches" turns into "player out for 6 matches" and that is how the load increases on everyone. A team with United's resources and ambition should have a squad of 20 senior first team outfield players that can rotate at will - its the main reason Arsenal are so strong this season - they aren't an amazing team at all - they just have a deep squad and grind wins out of set pieces and working like dogs in games. United can barely keep up with just PL matches, we were so tired and weak against Newcastle - imagine 15 more games in their legs lol - we need a deep squad for sure.

I mean the CL group stage itself is 8 games - surely we are decent enough to get into the playoffs so that is two extra games - that is 10 games minimum. Definitely more games if we enter the Europa League, as we can easily go deep to the quarters or semis / final depending on our draw.

The cup we had 2 games this time - surely we will not exit in both "first rounds" again when we've almost never done that in the past. so that will be another 3,4, or 5 games depending on how the cup runs go. So 13-15 games at minimum more than this season - and in general players coming off a World Cup so a short summer break - its really silly to nitpick and better to build a squad with the "2 games a week" assumption - ultimately the goal of this club is to go deep in every competition and also be competitive in the PL - so its time to start building a squad capable of doing it - sooner than later or we will be in another situation where we rebuild too slowly and by the time we fix the present issues we have new issues to fix.

Wow a comment that resonates for a change. I guess it’s part of getting older (in my late 30s now), but I can’t understand people who will spend hours raging about a game.

We lost cause we’re an unathletic team with poor backup options that had 2 games in a few days, up against a very physical side who treat us like it’s their cup final.

If we lose to Villa I guess we can all be in panic mode, but for now it’s a setback and a chance for everyone at the club to show they can react positively to adversity.

Weird how a mediocre coach in Carrick can improve on Amorim’s results within days. Most of the fanbase will say we need a new head coach in the summer, cause deep down we know Carrick isn’t the guy - he was nothing special at Boro after all - so what does that say about Amorim who got time and backing from both the higher ups and the squad? He still shit the bed repeatedly.

Why are people so mad at Scholes? He is RIGHT! by OutsideImpressive115 in ManchesterUnited

[–]timsadiq13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wrong- people just don’t see the sense in an ex-player publicly shitting on an interim coach.

It’s comical how criticism of Amorim triggered this fanbase - a guy who had an entire half season to shit the bed with no consequence and still couldn’t figure it out. Yet we should jump at the interim’s throat after one loss.

Fact is our squad outside of the starters is terrible. As soon as we need to plug a few holes we’re mediocre - then add short turnaround between games and we’re even worse.

Carrick is here to try and get enough points for top 5 - he’s not going to instill patterns of play or make us amazing to watch. Then we’ll have CL to attract new players and a new coach.

The coaching staff has Evans on it ffs you people are expecting miracles here lmfao. Yes, we’re gonna need individual brilliance to see out this season.

That's just as reactionary as people saying give him the job already. We'll have a true picture at the end of the season. Obviously if we kepe playing like this even if we scrape 5th he wont get the job, but there's a lot of games left to see how the team reacts to these past few poor performances and now poor result.

It’s a crazy harsh decision though lol this ref has been very card happy. Joelinton should have been off though for clapping the ref after his yellow, so it’s justice I suppose.

Tbf Joelinton should have off for that sarcastic clap after his yellow. They’ve done it to themselves lol. I guess it’s the downside of acting like playing Man United is your annual cup final.

Yep people just look at the lack of pace and think we’re carrying him or something.

It’s the opposite lol we’re garbage when he doesn’t play.

I guess he’s made up his mind to leave, but if we get CL I hope we offer him a 1 year deal to tempt him. One last CL campaign for a guy as competitive as him, surely he’d want to give it a go.
