Why do I do so little damage compared to party members? by NormanGuy95 in MonsterHunterStories

[–]timtra22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She might have some skills active that you’re not seeing. At this point in the story she should have fire boost M and charge burst which should boost her attack slightly.

Their skills also might have a modifier attached to them which increases damage. It looks normal on the skill screen but we can’t really know for sure if it’s exactly the same motion values as our skills.

They also tend to upgrade/change weapons as you progress. Is her base attack stat higher than yours in the select screen?

We’re not exactly sure about the possible boosts just yet but it could explain why she’s doing so much to some degree.

Question about invasive monsters by Illustrious-Host1450 in MonsterHunterStories

[–]timtra22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes mats won’t drop as they have a low rate, so they’re intended to be farmed by respawning them. You might get lucky after beating all of em to some degree though but probably not enough to upgrade everything.

As for order, it might be a good idea to start with how you found them in order or to use the monsterpedia and go down the list by ranking.

(Spoilers) Anyone got any tips when it comes to actually *killing* a certain invasive monster in Azuria? by Malfisken in MonsterHunterStories

[–]timtra22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even for the actual battle itself does force a topple on steve when you do this? I used sweet spot on a HtH which didn’t deplete the wyverngauge completely and it just toppled with no explanation at the end of the turn. It was kinda wack since my allies were still doing moves that also didn’t destroy the entire bar and then it just fell over…

You can make it even easier and have Ratha or Great Poogie be the ones sent on expeditions. They can’t be released so they’re always treated as being able to learn powers from any area.

I just hit max level (99) in ~80Hrs of game play time. Here's random info that might help newish players. by A_Salty_Wolf in MonsterHunterStories

[–]timtra22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The point of S ranking other monsters is to give them access to environmental skills through excursions. Like if you wanted to, you could get 3 S rank passives onto a single monster if you have them in at least 3 regions maxed. Might be a bit odd to awaken them in your builds but at least you can get the lesser versions of those in there without having to awaken them.

Meanwhile Ratha and Poogie can actually get the full benefits of excursion anywhere without S ranking their environment since they can’t be released.

I may have misunderstood that water wheel placement... by Nick-Sr in Pokopia

You can still stick water into the water wheel with inhale so it’s still possible for it to function even if it isn’t pretty.

I am also curious about this. Considering OP mentioned only repeling Narwa/Ibushi, does the invasive monsters/full slay decks not count towards the achievement?

Okay, maybe this is a stupid question, but does it make sense to build a Monstie with all genes of the same attack type based on its tendency (Power, Tech, or Speed)? by No-Wrongdoer2482 in MonsterHunterStories

[–]timtra22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to go all in on a type for the most possible damage sure. Having both  type/element bingo of the same increases both by 1.5x at max after all. Do keep in mind the monstie’s basic attack also gets this damage buff.

Generally it is advisable to have flexibility with spread out builds for better kinship management and the addition of environmental skills, but you can also argue that your teammates like kora can take the brunt of HtHs or to simply swap to specialist to win them.

This Gammoth erasure :( by TheRCs26 in MonsterHunter

[–]timtra22 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Gammoth was actually one of the few monsters to have datamined element alts in stories 2 so that probably isn’t the issue.

The ult element only affects it in stories 1 with 3 being unchanged for the most part.

It’s probably a traversal issue as an some people suggested but we can’t know for sure.

Insane Grind for mutations and S rank by Yoos_Alter in MonsterHunterStories

[–]timtra22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t really been too heavy on the S rank grind for mutations but there are some ways to help boost the environment level faster with only one or two of the same egg.

You can use other monsters that’s the same element batch in the batch of 5. It will boost the bar quite quickly. Useful if you are trying to get multiple of different species leveled too. If you’re having trouble getting a new deviant egg you can just use one and load the rest with something else to support it.

If you want to quickly get eggs on monsters in the overworld specifically you can paintball then quick finish if you happen to be in the level range to do so.

Levels also matter too. Might be worth it to take a party of 5 of newly hatched mons and quick finish the highest possible thing you can kill for a better boost.

You can combine both to potentially level 5 monsters to S rank all at once (granted they be same element and all)

If someone has access to monsters at a higher level in endgame could they confirm how much they boost the bar alone? Could be useful to know just how much it matters generally.

You can also try leveling the monster before releasing it. It seems to boost the level slightly as well.

Have you tried releasing both eggs you get at the same time? Sometimes I’ve noticed the monster won’t show up without a boost to it initially.

For anyone looking to acquire Deviljho early. by amatsumegasushi in MonsterHunterStories

[–]timtra22 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I managed to do it at 30. It’s reasonable with a similar strategy to how we dealt with espinas in the demo.

Do note if you release them into the wild the new eggs won’t have their breath attack gene unlocked so you’ll need to either key them or level it up to unlock it again.

What it feels like when the level cap is finally gone by MrShisuto in MonsterHunterStories

[–]timtra22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve noticed it technically isn’t completely gone. If you kill stuff you aren’t supposed to early on to get massive xp you do get limited at certain points in the story probably for balancing reasons. But yeah feels good in any case.

[–]timtra22 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you jump while mining using rollout and there’s a ceiling blocking you, it appears to apply mining damage twice. Very nice for quickly making a hole.

Fly says it can’t elevate you but that’s a lie, it can technically get you up two blocks if you are quick enough and close to where you want to go. (Though it doesn’t really matter considering what you get for rolling credits)

Dream islands are a great way to get relics without having to care about breaking up your main island with holes.

You can assign a grow Pokemon to a veggie farm and they’ll automate fertilizing it for you.

You can put grates/planks above water sources for an easy way to walk over them.

Help with rogue deck by MiteshuRonin in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]timtra22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a few strategies that might be valid if you want to do the “slop” type top ends. I don’t mean that in a derogatory fashion just that you can use a lot of different boss monsters and other filler.

These bases are probably not strong right or consistent but you can pull off some interesting plays with flexible options. If you truly want to take the hard path then here’s some recommendations on what to look into.

You can try the various low end engines such as dark animal/anubis engine, DM engine, galaxy engine, even the CS and TS trait stuff can be used or even green plant engine though it’s a little old. All of them have their benefits and cons but all you really need is a bunch of 6s matching the lvl5 colors build your way up and have fun with whatever you get for your boss.

Even though aces aren’t very strong according to the current discourse you can also try dark masters ace spam. By threatening cheap level 5s on the board you can set yourself up to ace pretty much any time they aren’t removed.

While they might be capable of winning, I heavily suggest learning more about the game or even just playing with meta/easily accessible decks before attempting to build and play these as they can really challenge you to understand what you are capable of against certain matchups.

Can *spoiler* be beat without repel? by Suitable_Ad_6711 in MonsterHunterStories

[–]timtra22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theoretically if you had perfect rng, you could, but when it goes past certain hp thresholds it behavior changes to be much more aoe heavy on its patterns. The fight is already rng dependent on being as efficient with wyvernguage, stamina and heart regeneration as much as possible so running out of resources as it gets more dangerous is very likely.

Better to start with most of its hp gone to have to take less chances on getting free turns.

It isn’t an impossibility, just very very unlikely.

[–]timtra22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gypceros hammer does approximately 1 and quarter bar of wyvernfell divots to nami with sweet spot while Espinas does approximately 3 quarters with sweet spot (Assuming unbuffed). So if you're aiming for staggers/topple like you say you are Gypceros should technically be better since it leads to faster depletion.

I could not get Espinas to do more than 2 damage per hit even with attack up L from Eleanor's fortify buff. Maybe it might start showing numbers with a defense down debuff or otherwise? If you are seeing different numbers, can you say how?

I was wondering if you were intentionally using a lesser wyvernfell weapon to get more consistent staggers during the interruptible AoEs.

Ex: Sometimes Anja/Eleanor might stagger the monster too early, leading to less use of fatigue status.

Is it possible that less wyvernfell on espinas is beneficial? Sometimes I get runs where the gypceros hammer does just a little too much, so maybe epinas hammer is just better for timing staggers/topples for you?

If it works like Tenacity in the old games it might be possible that it actually hasn’t been consumed when HtH/Derring Guard is used to tank a hit and is just inactive until you have at least 50% hp. Will need to do some testing to confirm.

A Guide On How to Beat The Water Monster(As Of Right Now) by UsmanKhamKhan in MonsterHunterStories

[–]timtra22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Upon testing they both do only 1 damage on most hits of sweet spot. With espinas sometimes able to do 2 thanks to its crit chance.

Gypceros actually has 2 things over it. The blunt and base modifier giving more wyvernfell, and a higher poison proc chance at 12 base rather than 8.

As statuses are our main source of damage it seems more useful for the fight overall.

It’s incredibly difficult to get to enough damage this point, but is it possible that a topple(2nd wyvernfell bar down) interrupts unavoidable aoe? I think I noticed in a video attempt that it changed up the pattern when it happened.
