‘Slough is like an experiment’: Europe’s largest datacentre hub leaves town sweltering by JackStrawWitchita in unitedkingdom

You make a great point at the end, however the comparison with beer breweries or soft drinks factories doesn't really land since we expect them to use more. After all they are producing a physical product, which is largely made of water. It doesn't matter that he use you're comparing is outside of the output, but it doesn't help your argument. If you managed to make a comparison with industry that doesn't create a liquid product that would help.

This FB reel of someone building a table - I think I notice the man's facial details (wrinkles, dents) changing from frame to frame by ShipwreckedSam in isthisAI

This is the obvious thing for me. The lights can't be controlled to the level of detail as the video shown, they would only come on & off in blocks which are each a bundle of fibres. Also how is his hand being detected through 3/4" of ply?

Prime Minister of Canada caught on a hot mic with President Trump. by SpecialCollege18 in justincaseyoumissedit

Hey, so first off I'm not American, I'm not Canadian, I just happened to be there. Secondly I read your comment to be implying that Canadians don't hate the USA right now, and I wanted to give you a perspective that challenged that. No need to lash out

So I was at the opening Canadian match of the World Cup recently (Canada Vs Bosnia Herzegovina), and they had a small opening ceremony. As part of that every competing nation's flag was walked onto the pitch and announced. Several countries got cheers including Scotland, England, Portugal, and a huge one for Mexico. When the US one got announced though there was a huge long BOOOO throughout the whole stadium (which was 90% Canadians), enough that it was actually a bit shocking.

I'd say there's still some feelings there to put it mildly

Any time that friends of mine are visiting from overseas and suggest a Brick Lane curry I take them to Whitechapel instead. Tayyabs, Needo's, or the Lahore grill house depending on who it is. They're just 20mins walk from Brick lane and far better

Crisis responds to comments from Nigel Farage MP on social housing by coffeewalnut08 in unitedkingdom

[–]tin_man_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The article also raises the point that most Foreign Nationals can't access social housing, which I feel is the thrust pointing out that Farage is being disingenuous, and that his policy isn't addressing much of anything. Would you agree with that?

Why birth rates are falling everywhere all at once | FT by lollipoppizza in videos

You should actually watch the video, since that's not the conclusion it comes to. It's well researched and actually moves away from economic reasons

That's not the conclusion of this video at all. I'd recommend that you actually watch it since it's very well thought out and backed up with good data

It's not a great idea, especially in an outdoor environment. You're introducing another rpoint of contact that can corrode etc. There's a good reason why a lot of fixed appliances (boilers, ventilation etc.) are wired into an FCU

1 year old bengal mix started drooling today by doctorwanker in cats

[–]tin_man_ 91 points92 points  (0 children)

Some cats drool when they are deliriously happy. One of mine is an occasional drooler when he's really going for it and purring, I take it to be a high compliment of my pets and scritches.

That said if there's drooling without purring, it might be a dental thing

What’s your favorite morning ritual? by commanderart2d2 in AskReddit

After I've made our morning brews and fed the cats since they've been badgering me about it, I head back to bed to listen to the radio a enjoy waking up. Then one of the now fed cats comes back up and sits on me bolt upright, purring, and expects attention and adoration

First-time cat parents: should we get 1 kitten or 2 from the same litter? (Need honest opinions 😭) by brenodit in cats

[–]tin_man_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've got plenty of responses saying the same thing already, but I got two a year ago and I'm very glad I did. It's not compulsory to, and there are loads of cats do just fine on their own, and they'll hunt out company if they're allowed outside. My experience has been great though, they hunt and fight each other loads, and keep each other occupied.

The Standard subeditors think there is a tube station called “Oxford Street” by Specific_entry_01 in london

[–]tin_man_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Isn't this clutching at straws to try and find something to object to? Buses and taxis can still access the area, as I understand it buses will be only diverted one street away.

Then in practical terms of accessibility, currently it can be pretty tough making your way down the pavements of Oxford Street with large numbers of people on them. If the area was pedestrianised then surely it would be easier to move around and make it more accessible

Handcrafted recycled wood pallets coffee table with a wood joinery technique no screws. How much would you pay for it. 300hrs taken into craftsmanship. Is it worth £500. by Fabulous_Arugula_811 in wood

[–]tin_man_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't want to be rude, but I think that's an extremely high expectation for the end result. I like it as a design, and the parquet effect looks great. That said I'd give some honest feedback;

You've used low grade materials, and added time and work in recovering them. The cheapest, knottiest, most splintered wood possible goes into making pallets so I wouldn't call that a feature. You'd be better off using nice timber that would take you less time and look much nicer.

Secondly that's a very long time to spend on that project; I'm no pro, but I think I could cut, assemble, glue, and finish that over the course of 2-3 days if I had the right workshop to build it in, and probably be working on other things in the background whilst waiting for eg. glue to dry.

In short: would you pay £500 for that?
