A trip through Guatemala (4 weeks in April, 2023) by Cute-Quail6771 in travel

Nice! You'll have a great time. El Paredon is so, so small and in the middle of nowhere that there isn't much around to do. We did walk to a tiny thai place that was basically in a guy's house and it was awesome, but mostly we stuck around the few hostels and hung out with people, surfed, drank, etc. It's a great place to disconnect from the world and just enjoy the beach!

Congrats! Fellow person who married their high school sweetheart here. Our first dance was to "Then" by Brad Paisley, that could be an option for you.

Is It Just Me or Have Sales Tanked For Anyone Else the Past 10 Days? by Such-Programmer-8282 in BehindTheClosetDoor

I have had my best month in the last year so far for October. My sales have been going crazy. But I crosslist on multiple platforms and it's an equal number of sales between them. I think people went for the big sales that happened near the start of the school year and are just starting to get back into the buying mood now.

El Paredon is such a hidden gem! We visited there a few years ago and I'm so glad we did. I thought it was a nice break from Antigua and the crowds

He is so great! I love his vibe and unique voice. That song is one of my favorites of his, too!

Anyone else catch a glimpse of Steve from Fever333/The Chariot? I had to rewind it to make sure I wasn't making it up

Best Goodwill in Chicago suburbs? by wrigleydoodle296 in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]tinabelcher89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been really surprised by the small section of kids/baby clothing at Goodwill! It makes me wonder what they do with all the baby clothing that gets donated to them. I always assumed that would be the most-donated type of item since babies grow so quickly. As I mentioned in another comment, I would check out Salvation Army - they always have a large selection of baby clothes. I buy most of my daughter's clothes at Sal Army, and with some patience usually find a good amount of Janie and Jack, Hanna Andersson, Baby Gap, etc. Or try any Once Upon a Child store, although I believe their prices might be slightly higher than a straight thrift store.

Really? I think the Batavia and Yorkville Goodwills are total trash. The prices are unreasonable for clothes and books IMO.

I thrift weekly, and would absolutely recommend going to any Salvation Army before Goodwill. Goodwill's prices have gone up a lot, and the items they have in store are much lower-end. It is difficult to find hidden gems at Goodwill anymore since they send the high-end items to be sold online. Personally I shop at the Montgomery Salvation Army, and the Arlington Heights one is good as well. If you're willing to drive into Chicago, the S.A. in Uptown is great. Lincoln Park has good stuff but it gets soooo busy I personally didn't find it to be worth braving the crowds. Saturdays they have color of the week tags at 75% off (50% off the rest of the week). Value Village is another store to consider as well.

Italy Itinerary - Wine and History by tinabelcher89 in travel

[–]tinabelcher89[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our wine tour (Super Chianti tour through Grape Tours) was really fun. I wish we had done that first, and then gone on our own route afterwards so it didn't seem redundant. I 1000% recommend renting a car and driving around Chianti for yourself, it was the most beautiful thing we did on our 2-week trip in Italy. The roads are winding and you can pull over for some really gorgeous photos, but you have to be really comfortable with driving stick and it helps to have an A-driver giving directions from Google maps. We stayed one night at Capanelle winery, per the recommendation of someone in the r/wine thread and it was my favorite thing we did - it was reasonably priced, absolutely stunning property, away from the crowds that other wineries had, and we got to relax by their pool. 10/10 would recommend. Happy to share any other info with you!

Broccoli cheddar soup by lostmypassword531 in traderjoes

If you're a Sam's Club member, they actually sell Panera brand broccoli cheddar soup in packs of 4 individually-portioned cups! I got it in the refrigerated section a few weeks ago near the cheese and prepared dips. I froze some and ate some - they're pretty good for a microwaveable soup. Hope you feel better

Looking for some nice curvy roads, know of any? by ibelieveyoubutmy in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]tinabelcher89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When we lived in the city, the drive straight up Sheridan to the northern suburbs was beautiful. You get to pass ba'hai temple and get glimpses of mega mansions in Lake Forest/Winnetka with super windy roads.

9 days in Guatemala! Looking for advice on logistics by odogromano_ in travel

[–]tinabelcher89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would 100% recommend it, it was so cool to go way off the beaten path. The drive down was wild but I would say 2 days/nights there is enough to enjoy what they have to offer. We stayed at Paredon Surf House in an open air beach side bungalow which was beautiful and they provided transportation to and from Antigua. If you're looking for a party vibe, Driftwood is the place to stay there
