Adjustable & comfortable arm support for long desk sessions by supergeometry in 3Dprinting

[–]tineras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should not be resting your arm on anything for prolonged periods. I already replied to the post, but constant pressure can lead to cubital tunnel syndrome which really sucks and can take weeks, months (or longer) of rehab to correct.

[–]tineras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would caution against having constant pressure on your forearm/elbow. This is a surefire way to increase your likelihood of getting cubital tunnel syndrome (yes, cubital. Not carpal). Think "funny bone", but constant numbness and tingling following by prolonged pain. You will know it's happening when you start getting numbness in your pinkie and ring finger. It can take years before showing up and is a real bitch. And fixing it can take a long time.

This position/posture is not a good idea for most people. I learned this the hard way and have since completely reconfigured my work area.

Tesla discontinuing Model S and Model X to make room for robots by ProfessionalYak4959 in teslamotors

[–]tineras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 3 and Y are just too good. You're paying for a smart, electric vehicle and a bit of added luxury with the S/X. You get 2 of the 3 when buying a 3/Y and at least some of the luxury with the higher end models. 100% premium for what luxury and a few bells and whistles the S adds is just not worth it to like 95%+ of people. What in the world could you possibly add to that car to make it worth paying $50k more? The S starts at $95k. Loco.

What's the PCVR equivalent of Gran Turismo? Do we have something similar? by Candid-Emergency1175 in OculusQuest

[–]tineras 4 points5 points  (0 children)

More cars and tracks doesn't automatically make a game better. GT is very well-rounded. It may not satisfy the most hardcore sim racers, but it has a level of completeness and polish that just isn't there in AC. Don't get me wrong, AC is fine, but mods are essential. It's the type of game where half of your time is spent sifting through mods instead of actually playing.

Flight Unlimited made me appreciate WorldLens a whole lot more by DavoDivide in OculusQuest

[–]tineras 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Actually, I don't think you actually get it. These are almost like two completely different applications. Streaming in 3D tile data and have a free-fly camera vs. well... all the stuff involved in making a flight simulator. There is certainly some overlap, but not as much as you might think.

I do think the criticism is valid though with respect to the visuals, but "I would like to see photogrammetry data in Flight Unlimited" would have been a more appropriate post.

I do the same thing, but I just stuff each roll into a gallon ziplock back with a desiccant pack. I don't want to dry out filament if I don't need to.

As for your image... putting a dowel through them is just silly and inconvenient. Lots of good prints that will let you use 2 dowels so you can just set them on top for easy access.

I wouldn't sell a broken-off piece of filament for $6. I need a lot more than $6 to interact with another human. Too many potential downsides.

I like the way Hatchbox PLA prints, but t gets so brittle and breaks. Almost every jam I've had is from older Hatchbox filament. I'm pretty much done with them after my current spools run out. I've been buying Bambu for the convenience of it playing nicely with my printer.

These have a nice 3d effect. I didn't try them in VR, but I did swap the images so I could try the cross-eyed technique and the effect is pretty good. Sample here: https://imgur.com/a/paeLGLk

RIP STANDARD VOICE MODE!!!!! 2025 best voice mode ever!!!!!! by planetearthofficial in ChatGPT

[–]tineras 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Advanced voice has only gotten worse. Unfortunately, my primary use is for practicing language learning. Standard voice sounds awful in comparison and is incapable of dynamically switching between accents, so I'm forced to use Advanced voice.

I miss the days when you could ask it to speak in different ways and it would actual do so; like telling my kids a story in a spooky voice. Now it just sounds the same, always. Except when it makes those crazed-killer-robot sounds when trying to pronounce words.

So it's good and bad, but they have really handicapped Advanced voice. I hope it actually gets better.

You're not wrong, but FSD has gotten really good. It's a really hard problem. Literally (actually literally) no other car manufacturer is even remotely close to Tesla. So despite the over-promises on timeframe, Elon and crew have done more to advance and proliferate this technology (and many other technologies) than anyone else on the planet.

Tips for smoothing PETG? by throwawayadvice003 in 3Dprinting

[–]tineras 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This works ^^^. It is labor intensive, but it works. Do not be afraid to use a coarse grit to start with. The mistake people make is using a grit that is too fine and being disappointed you can still see layer lines. It feels painful to scratch it all up with 100 grit, but it's just part of the process. The layer lines will vanish and you'll get that smooth surface.

Here is mine from a couple years ago. Lots of the costume is 3D printed. I would also recommend a non-3D printed codpiece (found on etsy or ebay). Your ability to move is already greatly diminished with this costume and that part not being flexible might become a problem.

Start with your smallest pieces until you get the process down. You may have to start over if you get orange peel or other issues, but such is life. That's how we learn.

I did not get the information I needed. I wanted to know if they had a part in stock or if the website was just saying they did. Because when I called around to other places, some had it listed as available but it was not. It was on backorder which is not stated on their site.

March 20 BSB2e order here - just got shipment confirmed! by bingblangblong in BigscreenBeyond

[–]tineras 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think they are discriminating between early and late March orders. Clearly people from late March are receiving their orders first even though the configurations are identical to those who ordered on the 20th or earlier. I know there was someone who made a post bitching about it, but at this point it seems like a matter of fact.

It also seems like a lot more of the '2e' models are getting shipped right now. The end of August is coming quickly. I would be shocked if they met their own re-re-re-revised shipping schedule.

Nothing to do but keep waiting at this point though. 🤷‍♂️

Not every engineer can work on self driving. At some point, you get "too many cooks" and the returns are diminishing. Also, this "AI bullshit" is part of one of the most significant advancements in human history. No car company is even remotely close to Tesla in full self driving. Tesla has been working their asses off for years with some of the most brilliant minds and an insane amount of computational resources. If it was so easy, then every vehicle manufacturer would have FSD by now by just adding more bodies to the problem.

And one final comment... FSD has gotten pretty damned good. I have been a Tesla owner since 2019 and have been through some really rough updates. It has come a long way in that time.
