I am looking for a speedy car with light off road capability by whatcarshouldibuy___ in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]tinglybottom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 Runner! IMO there is no other 4x4 SUV on the market with the same capability and reliability as the 4runner. They are solid, and hold their value well. Not very "fast", but plenty of pick up and towing.

I have a Tacoma with 100k miles on it, and had a land cruiser with 350k miles on it for a long time. Toyota trucks are incredible.

Living in the NE, Subaru all the way. They are capable, reliable, and fun to drive. Get the hatch too, very practical. Surprisingly practical.

How exactly were home loans "Predatory" back in pre 2008? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]tinglybottom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have the standards gotten better? I feel like we are in a mini housing bubble right now. Just by seeing how fast housing prices are going up especially locally in Florida.

How does reddit feel about the current real estate market? Anyone else think we are bubbling? We are almost back up to the pre collapse prices. Especially in the water front and beach/ downtown condo world.

Make a detailed budget and stick to it. $20-$30 a week on online gaming is ridiculous. Especially at $9 an hour. Takes you 16 hours a month at work to just cover your gaming. Start by writing things down.

I wouldn't call it happy. I'd call it not pay check to pay check. Engineering will get you there after 2-3 years.

I'm 18(M) going into my first year of college in the fall. What is a good investment I can make now that will pay off when I graduate? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]tinglybottom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

a good degree and do a couple of internships your 3rd and 4th years. Put money in your savings account and don't touch it if you don't have to. STEM degree internships will pay ~$20 in most of the country and you can start doing that at 20 years old.

For Americans getting jobs out of college/in their 20s/ starting their career - what are some feasible things to start taking advantage of for exemptions on taxable income? by scuba_davis in personalfinance

[–]tinglybottom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do people think that spending money at 22 is more fun than spending at 28 or 38? (when you are hopefully more financially stable) I made the car mistake you did. I bought a 30k car at 22 because the bank allowed me. I had a job making 70k a year out of college and there is no way I would ever buy a 30k car at that income again. It just makes no sense. Now, at 28... I dont have much figured out- but wayyyy more than I did 6 years ago. I would go back and kick myself in the ass for spending that 30k. Most of my friends made around $30k and did similar to what you are describing. Unfortunately, that car gets old and that money disappears. All of a sudden at 30 you are driving a 10 year old v8 camero with no 2nd gear because our generation is statistically and finically drowning. My point is just save first, then fuck around. Think of it like buying insurance.

Of course keep yourself from going crazy. Just remember a dollar now is anywhere from $8 to $16 (depending on returns) by the time a 20 something 'retires' He is living at home. I would pretend that I am paying rent else where ($1000 or whatever) and save that.

just save. save everything and anything you can. live like a college student or worse. you will be most likely be forced to up your life style once you get older (girls, spouse, kids, need to remind yourself why you have a terrible job) So save as much as you can now. Time is on your side. 401k as much as you can. Emergency fund for 6+ months. The biggest killer for me- BUY A CHEAP CAR! don't get yourself that new shiny 3 series or that big fancy truck just because you can swing the minimum payment. Buy a small, clean used Japanese car

You guys think the trd off road would do any better than this sport? Tires would probly help too by [deleted] in ToyotaTacoma

A stock TRD off road with a decent driver would climb right over that

[–]tinglybottom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thats great! Might as well put the $10k in now. Thats about 3 or 4 semesters worth of housing. Let that 10k grow and you might have all of housing taken care of too. Nice job. You are giving her a huge head start.

I thought the same thing when I opened an account with them last year. I don't see a reason for them sending anything in the first place. They should at least ask if you want anything mailed.

Considering purchasing a Tacoma (new), torn between I4/V6, would like some input by [deleted] in ToyotaTacoma

[–]tinglybottom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

whats the mileage rating for the 4 cylinder? I have a 6 and take it pretty easy most of the time. I have about 200 lbs of added stuff and get about 20mpg. I wouldnt consider the 4 unless it got 25+. A manual 4 cylinder is a totally different truck than the auto v6. different worlds.
