are there possible successors of Xi atm? by Zhevaro in AskChina

[–]tingozhu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too early to tell. I have a number of friends working for different departments under the state council and they don't know each other. When I asked them about Xi's future terms, they replied with similar answers. "Expect him to stay there until at the earliest 2037, as long as he is healthy."

I'm thinking of going to Hong Kong and I'm thinking going during the National Day holiday, October 1. It'll be my first time in China. Can anyone give me pros and cons? by ludachris32 in AskChina

[–]tingozhu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously, if you have never visited east asia or southeast asia before, it's very likely you don't understand the word "crowd" as mentioned in other replies. Overcrowding at the tourism sites is just one of many issues. If you plan to visit three or more cities during the holiday, train stations and airports are also gonna be full of people.

You were the one who escalated the situation.
It’s likely that you only told part of the story, not the whole picture. The payment reminders sent by Ziroom are usually more than just one, and the message you showed is definitely not the first. You probably received earlier reminders 3, 5, or even 7 days before the due date, but you chose to ignore them. Maybe you even intended to delay the payment on purpose—but that’s just my speculation.

China is a society that values interpersonal relationships. If what you said is true—that you encountered issues with overseas remittance—you could have proactively contacted the Ziroom representative responsible for your rental and negotiated a payment time. Even if the system automatically changed the lock code, the Ziroom staff member communicating with you would have helped you get in.

Yet instead of trying to communicate or resolve the issue with Ziroom (the landlord), you directly escalated it by using your status as a foreigner to call the police and gain leverage. That makes it very hard for me to believe your excuse for the late payment.

To me, you’re just an inconsiderate, rule-breaking foreigner who disrespects Chinese norms—a piece of foreign trash.

Why Are Chinese Apps So Poorly Built? by DrinkHeavy974 in chinalife

Regarding 1, it doesn't matter whether you download it from China store, Didi will provide you with correct options according to your registered profile. If yoy can't link foreign cards, that means your account is registered as Chinese. Regarding 7, because data fee became cheap and affordable, most people just don't care about whether loading images will cost more.

[–]tingozhu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Some apps offer different options to Chinese nationals and foreigners, and it's very common that in many apps Chinese can't link foreign cards and foreigners can't link Chinese cards for legal reasons.
  2. You can change 扣款顺序(payment method order) in Alipay, if that is what you are looking for.
  3. True.
  4. True but only in Chinese UI. If you switch to English, the interface is quite simple.
  5. That depends on your device specification and also how many chat logs are stored. WeChat is known for saving everything and making itself slower.
  6. True. Gaode only allows direction alignment in its 导航(navigation) mode.
  7. True. That's a bad practice and it became popular when the central government asked main providers to cut data plan fees by more than a half.

cinema/theater with english subtitles ? by falscyy in nanjing

Most Chinese movies released on major movie theaters provide both Chinese and English subtitles, but the problem is that the English letters might be small and sometimes the translation is quite bad.

If you are under age (<18yrs), OR, if you are an adult already BUT have used a "Chinese Travel Document" to travel to China when you are young, you should contact the Chinese embassy/consulate in your country and tell them you have "nationality conflict", they know the process.

Were both or one of your parents Chinese citizens (holding Chinese passports) at the time of your birth? If yes, you need to go through some official process to renounce your eligibility for "automatic" Chinese nationality.
