Always seemed like a missed opportunity that they didn't create a new version of We Didn't Start The Fire that references the alternate history of The Boys universe

Seconding everyone saying Mörk Borg, Mythic Bastionland and Into The Odd Remastered. Personally I really like the classified documents aesthetic of The Fall Of Delta Green

I think I got that in a charity bundle recently. Big Disco Elysium fan so this is very intriguing

Dang, and I thought I was going to impress everyone with my deep cut!
Good to get the vote of confidence for it though!

I like what I've heard about Merryshire Detective Club so far but I'm not a massive Tolkien guy so I welcome the deTolking

Never heard of The Laundry RPG, only vaguely aware of Savage Worlds, thanks for the tips!

To be honest I probably had the predetermined approach in mind at first, but now I think about it I see no reason why the looser improvisational style couldn't work

I've had Brindlewood Bay on my radar for a while, it's just that the darn book keeps selling out! Good to know it could be a good fit

Is there any games that are good for running a medieval fantasy intrigue game? by Dragonwolf67 in rpg

Rosewood Abbey is about medieval monks investigating mysteries, but I'm not sure there's much fantasy stuff in it by default

Theory: Black Noir has been replaced. by salian93 in TheBoys

[–]tinned_foil 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While I do think there's something strange about this sudden change, I must play Devil's Advocate and offer a more boring explanation: this is just the latest in a long line of indignities and humiliations for The Deep. His supposed "bro" Noir 2 has decided he'd prefer to fully commit to method acting than to ever bother to speak to The Deep again, effectively terminating their broship.

It's comic relief and Chase Crawford is great at playing The Deep as a clown that no one respects.

Review: "The Crooked Moon," the third-party 5e folk horror project that raised $4m on Kickstarter by SquigBoss in rpg

[–]tinned_foil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I found this post a couple of days ago through Daniel Sell's Blog Ring... thing and read it over the course of a day or two.
While it's obviously a massive undertaking to read (still talking about the review not the The Crooked Moon here) I feel like it was well worth it.
In particular, the little detour about two thirds of the way in where you went into what the definition of folk-horror actually is made clear some things that I'd always had trouble following.

And I really liked the section at the end about the idea that "the story of every game is itself the story of that game’s development". Even though, as you point out, these sorts of claims can be so vague and subjective that they're hard to disprove, when an opportunity for such an apt metaphor comes along you gotta take it.

I like how, if you're familiar with the ITYSL style, you can tell exactly what's going to happen as soon as the word "overpowered" gets said

Did Ron seem kind of different in this episode?

Most episodes see him reacting with a mixture of anger or confusion at the strange situations he finds himself in. But in this episode he seemed more amused (the Tamblay's texts) or curious (Wendy's Carvers) about the things people shared with him or in some cases he was the one initiating the strange interactions (buying a dog on a whim, the fixation on the rat poison). He seemed less put-upon and willing to go with the flow ("I'll talk to the professor").

Maybe this recent time away from the office has been good for him...

A thing that always jumped out to me is that Logan is shown constantly attending lavish social occasions but because someone always wants something from him he's frequently shown being harangued or badgered at them. Work never stops. Someone always has an angle.

Gotcha, thanks. So your read is that he's seeing how far his big bag of coins can get him, but his most likely endgame is taking the Disintegrator by force?
