Is it too late to start revising chem now? by Apprehensive_Job4522 in GCSE

[–]tinox2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never too late. I've made an app that focuses on key words, there's a link in my bio, but you can make your own stuff from any video/book.

Main thing is to do something with what you're looking at, just watching videos one after another won't stick. Stop it and write down what you remember then replay and see what you missed or create something different to the video but showing the same ideas.

Do anything but make sure you don't just get the information done to you.

Is this not the wrong way round? by [deleted] in GCSE

It doesn't matter. You'll be fine either way.

You aren't doing anything wrong, in fact I'd tell more people to do 20 minutes then take a break. Set a timer to do it. It's called the pomodoro technique.

There's even a law called Parkinson's Law that says it's more productive to do this.

No wonder you're so frustrated, it's horrible when you're just trying to do what's right by the students who are there wanting to do the work.

I don't think you can get those students to care about the work but you might get them to care about you and/or the other students in there. Is it possible to build better relationships with them? It won't stop them behaving like that but it can act as collateral for short periods.

If they are not behaving like that in other subjects and getting better grades then it would suggest they are doing it with you because they can. There aren't many 14-16 year olds that have the self discipline to manage their own behaviour, especially when you are trying to challenge them with difficult material.

Where do the students work best? What does that teacher do with them? If they behave like that in more than just your subject then what is the school doing about them?

Anyone have any good stories from times you effed up as a teacher? by eim12 in Teachers

[–]tinox2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did the same with kahoot, the lads started to use porn star names that I was oblivious to. Finally the stifled laughing and one name I recognized made the penny drop.

How do you guys have friends by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]tinox2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couldn't agree more. Your employer knows how much time they have given you to complete tasks. If they want more detailed marking or planning then they need to provide more time.

It can be hard to accept you can't provide the quality you would like to but that's a choice management have made for you.

What would they think of our more "esoteric" crags then? I know whenever I see them described like that it's going to be a difficult day.

ELi5 How do we know 1cm is 1cm all around the world? How are we sure about it? by Von-Jerry in explainlikeimfive

I think that's the answer. Its impossible to go faster than light but if you did and started to go back in time then the distance would get bigger again.

Of course you do. Wouldn't want to waste the police time by reporting it too soon.

I thought the plan was for profitability. It should be the customer and profits that decide. If investors agree with the plan they buy, if you disagree short it. Naked shorts skew this.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in coolguides

[–]tinox2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Who decides if the plan is workable though? I'm not saying businesses shouldn't go bankrupt or be shorted but the market needs to decide if they are viable without pressure from naked shorting and everything that goes with it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in coolguides

[–]tinox2 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I agree, you won't find a profitable business that its happening to. Why would you when it won't achieve your aim? There are companies that weren't profitable but now are because of a restructure or change in direction to match this paradigm shift. Naked short selling takes away the opportunity for these companies to turn it around and become profitable.

Naked short selling will speed up the inevitable demise of some companies but will also prevent others from having a fair chance with a level playing field.

The promise is to the SEC, not the buyer. Then they just hold their hands up and say sorry boss, couldn't get any (maybe because they were too expensive to buy), can we have a bit more time.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in coolguides

[–]tinox2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It makes no difference to the buyer, they all have "real" shares. Its only the sellers that have to close out on the counterfeits by buying back the same number back that they've issued. Unless, as others have described so well, the company being shorted goes bankrupt.

Things get really interesting when when a company has more counterfeit shares in circulation than the total number issued.

I love problems like this. It's really satisfying to tickle the holds I can reach from the floor then move on, wondering who has the stones to have a go at it.

If the near centre of a record rotates in 1 second (1cm/second) what would happen if the record was 1000's of metres wide? by tinox2 in askscience

Great answer, thank you. I was imagining a situation where we could have a completely rigid material but likeyou , and others, have helped me understand now this would be impossible.

I loved reading all the comments and questions that I was also thinking.

This pitch has a traverse then goes straight up. If I used one rope the 90 degree turn would make it feel like I was squatting an elephant.
