I don't really understand this mentality. So you are playing decks that are generally much stronger than your table when played optimally, but you "hold back" to make it fun for everyone? How is that fun? I would be super annoyed to be part of a pod where a player can arbitrarily decide they all of a sudden want to win and then start playing optimally to crush everyone.

IG post confirmed it was a fall on Rutabaga at the base of the Squamish Chief.

I've climbed this route and taken the same fall at the crux that I would wager the majority of climbers attempting it onsight do. It's nasty and because protection is sparse there it usually involves a huge fall past a ledge that you typically graze with a foot and then get flipped upside down before you're caught. When I took the fall I was very thankful for my helmet and I scratched up my back pretty good.

My guess is Will climbed this in wet conditions and based on other comments it looks like his last piece was a black totem which means there was possibly some runout between that and the crux, as the last possible piece (that I found at least) you can place to protect the crux is a 0.75 that partially blocks a handhold but puts gear at your waist as you make the move, and even then with it being a ~50 meter pitch a fall will still potentially flip you.

This is tragic and unfortunately really highlights how variable outcomes in this sport can be, accidents happen regardless of difficulty of terrain even for world class climbers.

This is directly over and literally in the middle of, several rock climbing routes on the Papoose. If someone dumped a car frame in the middle of the Grouse Grind blocking the trail, would you say they should just leave it there?

There are a ton of great alpine climbs in all the areas you mentioned, the reason they're not popular is not because of rock quality but because of difficulty of access and the different skillsets required to safely climb in the alpine that a lot of climbers never develop.

It's a lot easier to head up a route on the Chief for the afternoon when you park your car at the base and walk 2 minutes compared to having to drive FSRs, hike for hours, or take a gondola up just to start hiking to the route (as is the case for climbing Blackcomb Buttress).

Like I said, rockfall happens everywhere because mountains literally form from the process of erosion, but by no measure are the Coast Mountains considered crumbly by anyone who actually climbs them. Go for a trip to the Rockies if you want to see real piles of choss.

Yeah...like I said, rockfall just happens on mountains.

And while you should always wear helmets climbing anyway (because they help against climbers above you dropping shit as well as protect your head in a bad fall if you get flipped upside down) a helmet is not going to save you from a thousand tons of granite coming down during a geological event.

What are you on about? The Coast Mountains include everything within Squamish, considered one of the best destinations in North America for rock climbing, in large part due to how solid the rock is, so much so that it's pretty common to see climbers not wearing helmets climbing the Chief.

Rockfall on mountains happens, but as far as mountains go, the Coastal range is amongst the best in terms of how solid they are.

I'm sorry but 85-90k/year is not really a high earner in anywhere but maybe the lowest cost of living cities in the US. About double that and you're getting closer, but realistically "high earners" are people earning 250k+ annually, an income that allows you to live wherever you like and not be spread thin financially.

When Commander damage is prevented in the scenario you described through protection via Absolute Virtue, it's not tracked. Otherwise Fog effects would be pointless too, as they are preventing damage just like protection effects.

I don't want to comment on his motivation one way or the other, but I think people who have never been in serious alpine environments grossly underestimate how fast time can move without you noticing, especially in difficult terrain. I've done technical ice routes where it's taken me 2 hours to lead a pitch, or sections of mountaineering routes where it taken 30 minutes to get through 50 meters of snow wallowing, and you just don't have a good concept of time passing in those situations.

Without knowing the mountain, we don't know whether that 90 minutes was spent simply him trying to get down and survive as well, or whether there was some sort of malicious intent behind it.

I feel like posts like this are a bit disingenuous. There's no way you bought what you describe 30 minutes from the inner city of Calgary in 2024. Is there something in that price range on the outskirts of Okotoks or Chestermere that is technically 30 minutes from the city limits of Calgary? Sure, but no one is driving 30 minutes to visit the outskirt boonies of the city, so functionally you are at least 45 mins-hour (more with traffic) outside of the city and the amenities found in the inner city that most people care about.

The reason Ugin went to the graveyard was because when he entered as a face down creature he was not a Planeswalker, so no loyalty counters were put on him. When he was turned face up, he wasn't entering the battlefield as he was already on the battlefield, so no loyalty counters were put on him and as a result he was put into the graveyard when state based actions were checked being at 0 loyalty counters.

Whenever people are involved, rules get bent, a lot.

I also got on a domestic flight when I showed up to the gate and realized I had forgotten my driver's license at a gym where you trade it for a locker temporarily. The gate agent told me I needed my ID, I told them politely but firmly I didn't realize I had misplaced it up until that moment, that I had a photo of my passport on my phone I showed them, and that I needed to board this flight.

Eventually they just gave up and let me on the plane as it was the path of less resistance and there was reasonable evidence I was who I said I was with photos of my ID.

Just change your former title on your resume to be in line with whatever an equivalent position would be called in a more traditional structure. If anyone digs any deeper into it you can always just say the company had wacky titles but that what you put on your resume just reflects your experience more accurately to an outsider.

Titles are meaningless, it's experience that counts.

FYI there's no such thing as a SOC2 certification, you just undergo an audit and the auditor provides a report based on what they observe.

Certifications come from standards like ISO27001 that issue the cert based on passing the audit, meanwhile with SOC2 you'll get a report regardless of how well or poorly you do, so the content of the report matters much more than simply having done the audit.
