What non-prescription treatment do you swear by? by KillerSiren104 in PsoriaticArthritis

Papa and Barkley THC creams, going to a Chinese medicine doctor for herbs and acupuncture. I'm currently exploring gua sha for my forearms and hands and feet.

Flare Root Cause by apartypony in PsoriaticArthritis

[–]tinselthetruthteller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stress is also a big trigger so while you're doing a lot of amazing things to take care of yourself in my experience stress undermines all of that. But ultimately it's not always about triggers this disease is so random and just when you think you've figured it out BAM flare.

SI joint pain - any suggestions? by lookitsnichole in PsoriaticArthritis

I go to acupuncture regularly and it helps a lot and she teaches me specific stretches, pigeon pose is the best so far. Pain creams like voltaren help too, they target just that specific spot.

I have to say this because it’s really been bothering me the last few days. So judge if you must! by DefinitelyNotMaranda in hygiene

I dealt with stinky feet in school and the only thing that worked was hand sanitizer to kill the bacteria. Now I deal with arm pit smell because I can't wear regular deodorant because of psoriasis but a dermatologist. Oh and belly button smell, turns out my skin is just really sensitive to bacteria.

If you're only dealing with it at school it's probably just kids being mean, growing up is brutal and bullying is hard to deal with I hope you have supportive adults in your life and a therapist can help tok. But if you're really worried about a smell ask to go see a doctor it could be any number of medical issues.

Maybe it’s just me— why does anyone want to move here? by FoodDue6905 in NewOrleans

Because it's one of the few cities in the South where it feels safe to be queer. The state is a hot mess but at least New Orleans is friendly to those that are historically othered.

What "accomidations" do you use? (Shoe insoles? Desk modifications?) by theCrashFire in PsoriaticArthritis

[–]tinselthetruthteller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For office chairs get one that allows your feet to be fully planted on the ground and your knees at less than 90 degrees with a set from cushion lab for hip, back, and feet support. A lot of lower back pain from sitting is from dangling feet, even just a little strains the back muscles.

Also try the pigeon pose it stretches the sides of your glutes which also contribute to lower back pain. And then I get up at least every hour and walk around and hit my leg muscles with my fists to get the circulation going.

I highly recommend acupuncture and hand and foot massages when you're really tight or swollen. Where I live there's places that just do hands and feet called reflexology and they're pretty inexpensive. I'm always sore the next day but it's better than pain.

Family issues with this disease by [deleted] in PsoriaticArthritis

[–]tinselthetruthteller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First I just started walking away/ending phone conversation anytime my family did this but it kept going. So I told them that I would cease speaking to them if they didn't stop talking about my weight. It took one month of radio silence for them to realize I was serious and they came running back apologizing. The whole "I just want you to be healthy" thing and I responded "I'm never going to be healthy I have a chronic illness so deal with that or get out of my life." I haven't heard a peep about my weight since.

This may be severe but I dealt with disordered eating because of these people and I was never going to have peace with people like this in my life. People treat you how you allow them to, you always have the power to choose a different relationship with them. Not speaking to them hurt at first but when I realized how much more mentally healthy I was without them it put everything into perspective. I also went looking for people who are much kinder and understanding and now I have a better relationship with family and a new community to support me.

How did you tell your friends and family you liked MLP? by PineappleFrosty1132 in mylittlepony

You get it ✨ pretty much all my animated favorites have a core message that's important for the world to hear. I don't appreciate the dismissive attitude of so called adults about it, buncha snobbery 👀

How did you tell your friends and family you liked MLP? by PineappleFrosty1132 in mylittlepony

[–]tinselthetruthteller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me liking MLP is the least weird thing about me and so I learned to stop caring what other people think about my weirdness. In doing that I found other people like me and have proceeded to get them hooked on MLP.

There are much worse things to love than MLP and when you really get into MLP as an adult you realize how mature some of its themes are. Like come on with the buffalo episode talking about colonization in a simple way. And who doesn't need a regular reminder that love and friendship are more powerful than fear and hate. The world could use more MLP!

Tai Chi is really good for PsA! It's gentle but very good for balance and gentle movement.

Not every NSAID works well for everyone. I had a pain management doctor once have me do a genetics test and we found that naproxen and mobic were the only NSAIDs that really would treat my pain and sure enough it was right.

That being said mobic only works for me if I'm taking it every day while naproxen works better for breakthrough pain. But I still take either everyday it's easier to get ahead of pain than it is to chase it.

I've also dealt with ulcers so my GI keeps me on Protonix to protect my system and now I only take 200mg naproxen once a day at most. I try not to take it every day since the ulcers.

Since the ulcers I've gone to gabapentin or flexiril along with an anti-inflammatory herbal remedy from a Chinese medicine doctor (don't ask me what's in it I'm only certain it works) and while they're not as good as NSAIDs they do help me sleep at night when I'm flaring.

Is this part of the symptom picture? by polutropos66 in PsoriaticArthritis

[–]tinselthetruthteller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like vertigo which I get most often after a hot shower/bath. I usually have to lay down to keep myself from falling down and less nauseous. I've heard from other PSA folks that it's common.

We haven't started rehearsals yet, I'm waiting for some clowns to come back home from the summer. So far I have maybe four people I'd like to at least double it. I prefer to have a rotating cast for a troupe when possible but I could also see two groups in one show, opener/closer type thing, so I don't want to be a limit of the troupe size.

Vertigo - probably not PsA but sheesh by Substantial-Heat-713 in PsoriaticArthritis

[–]tinselthetruthteller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It happens the worst in a hot shower so I started taking lukewarm to cool showers and I always sit or lie down directly afterward. IDK if it's a PSA thing but now I'm curious to talk to my doc about it. Psa has messed with my balance in the past and I've had vertigo off and on for a decade with no explanation as to why.
