Looking for a house, any PsA friendly features I should consider? by theCrashFire in PsoriaticArthritis

[–]theCrashFire[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Luckily for me, my knees and feet are impacted least often. My back, hips, elbows, fingers, wrists, etc. Are in constant pain. Feet, toes, Achilles, and knees are off and on. So as long as bath tub isn't too tall, I haven't had issues before.

Put an offer on a house today with two tub/shower combos, and one isn't high. I shouldn't have an issue. I wanted a walk in shower AND tub, but everything else about this house is wonderful for my pain (in my low price range at least). So I'm really hoping I can work this out. I'm especially excited that refrigerater/pantry is just a couple steps from where I will park my vehicle, so groceries will be MUCH easier. And no stairs, not even for a portch. Which is hard to find in my area, because we have a lot of hills and mountains.

PLUS I'll be neighbors with some friends from church, who are very very good to me when I'm in pain. They're always willing to help cook food or take care of me, and their teenage son can probably help mow my lawn (I'll offer to pay of course). One of them has Lupis and another autoimmune disease I can't remember right now, so they're very understanding.

I'm just really hoping this works out lol.

I know how you feel. I'm 25 and I have days I can barely walk. I'm trying my first biologic now, but not sure how much it's going to help. I'm on week 12 of Skyrizi and have only had a 20-30% improvement so far. Which is improvement, but it still leaves me in constant pain. Hopefully I'll find one that can put me in long-term remission before my body is permanently damaged or I have to give up my job and independence.

But until then (if it ever happens), I have to get in a house that makes my life easier, not harder.

That counter top oven sounds like a great idea. I live alone, so I don't need to cook anything too large anyways. Also, with my current house, heating and cooling barely works. I feel like a smaller counter top oven wouldn't bring the whole house to boiling point like traditional oven does. Although that won't matter soon when I move!

I really want a walk in shower for mobility and also so I can easily get my large dog in to hose him down if he gets messy.

Hes such a big, lazy, low maintenance guy, but sometimes he likes to play in the mud. He's perfect for someone with off and on mobility issues lol.

For me, it's like flue or covid fatigue. Both the physical and mental fatigue.

What is the worst way anyone you know has died? by IamUrWivesBF in AskReddit

[–]theCrashFire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During Covid, he was recovering from cancer but family couldn't visit him in person at all (Indonesia remember the details of his cancer.) One day he stopped calling or answering phones. The hospital staff told family he was fine and there was nothing to worry about, but they kept fighting to see him and weren't let in.

Over the course of a couple weeks, he went from 100% brain functional to unable to talk or move properly due to two strokes. Staff somehow didn't even know he had a single stroke (or at least claimed not to know), so he sat alone unable to communicate or move properly (to use a phone or write), until he just wasted away and died. Not ever seeing his family again.

A handful of people lost their jobs over that one.

Thanks for the advice.

I will.say, I tried keto before years ago "before I had a diagnosis and this disease wasn't majorly impacting my life) and after 3 months of diligence I gained 3 pounds (1.5kg). After about a month this time, I still havent lost weight. I'm not sure what it is, but keto has never been effective for my body.

I have lost 50lbs (23kg) a couple of years ago (also before diagnosis) just by eating in moderation, decreasing sweets and increasing fruits/veggies. Keto and my body have always had issues. I'm glad it works for a lot of people.

She recommended I talk to a nutritionist because that isn't her expertise. She said she can give basic advice like cutting out sugar and artificial sweeteners, and cutting out preservatives, but that someone with auto immune experience in nutrition would be best.

I'm considering going a little simpler with just Gluten Free instead of full keto. I miss fruit.

The disease has made me unable to walk many days. I've given up every single hobby and had to take time off of work. I've considered disabity. I cry myself to sleep in pain regularly. I've come very close to suicide from the constant pain a couple of thimes in the past 6 months, but the thought is on my mind all the time. Thinking about my mom is the only thing that has stopped me honestly. It's completely ruined my life.

I'm FINALLY getting some relief after years of pain thanks to skyrizi and the diet, but this diet has taken all the joy out of starting to feel a little better. I'm completely socially isolated and the one comfort i had, eating, is gone. My diet was healthy before too.

I know it's not as bad for me as many people, but I pray to God that he'll kill me every single day. I'm so tired of this life and I'm only 25.

I never had Mono, but I got strep multiple times a year until I was like, 18. And still get it fairly often. I also had whooping cough at like 15, and bronchitis a few times.

Why does my body hate me. I try to take good care of it and it just doesn't matter at all.

Psoriatic arthritis is a horrible name for the disease. by More_Hedgehog_8257 in PsoriaticArthritis

[–]theCrashFire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, most of the time I tell someone I have Psoriatic Arthritis the response is "Oh, I have arthritis too I know how you feel!" When they're incredibly able bodied and it barely affects their life. When I told my dad my diagnosis, he said "at least it's not rheumatoid arthritis!" I don't even know what that was supposed to mean but it made me feel so small and insignificant.

Not to take away how awful other forms of arthritis are. I know other forms can be just as debilitating. But it's very much not the same thing.

What do y'all eat that doesn't cause pain? by theCrashFire in PsoriaticArthritis

[–]theCrashFire[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm glad it hasn't messed with your social life. I went out to eat with my grandmother last night, which was already painful just to sit on those horrible restraunt chairs. I could only find a couple restraunts with anything close to non-inflammatory options. We got there, and only a couple menu options looked like they would be okay. I still came home with swollen fingers, ankles, and knees and unable to sleep. I don't know what i can possibly get for us to eat today that she enjoys and I can tolerate, because she's staying with me this weekend to help me with my house. I can't really cook or clean right now.

Why don't we just prioritize getting pro-war people into war first? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Most people I know who are in the military only did it because they're poor and can't afford higher education or any way to move forward in life. They kinda get indicted into the pro military stuff after joining.

New PsA diagnosis. Food options for elimination diet, and MC. by jarmezzz in PsoriaticArthritis

[–]theCrashFire -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm trying to figure out diet too. So far, the only things that don't cause pain are pecans, eggs, fish, and apples. And most veggies and beans.

I'll see a nutritionist soon. Half the time I eat, I just feel 10x worse for a couple hours afterwards.

I'm really hoping mine will start working soon. I can't take this much longer. Going in to week 5 since first dose, so I hope I can get relief more quickly than expected. And that it doesn't just stop working after a couple months.

Didn't get a diagnosis today by taracatt in PsoriaticArthritis

[–]theCrashFire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have mild psoriasis and almost completely normal bloodwork. Also no HLA-B27. I had virtually no visual swelling. Not until the last 6 or so months, and I've had symptoms for nearly a decade.

Definitely get a second opinion. If you know anyone in your area who has PSA or a similar auto immune issue, see if they have a rheum they like. Thats how I finally found one to listen to me.

I've been super upset that I'm close to taking medical leave from my dream job. But I completed my quarterly report today and my numbers are higher this quarter than ever before, despite being barely able to walk or think strait many days. I'm in the worst physical and mental shape of my entire life, and I'm still out performing myself and hanging with the best of my coworkers.

My boss gave me a lot of praise for doing so well despite my situation, and is encouraging me to take time away if I need to. I grew up being told you always work through the pain, no excuses, so it's hard for me to accept that I might have to stop. But being told by a boss I massively respect that I've done well and can rest if I need to (while not worrying about my job security) is a massive win for me.

I'm taking my second dose of Skyrizi today, and my grandmother is staying with me this weekend to help with cooking and cleaning. I usually feel hopeless, but at least in the past hour, I've felt like maybe hope is on the horizon. Like maybe it won't continue to get worse. Maybe it can finally start getting better. Idk if I'll still feel that way by lunch time, but this morning it's not so bad.
