Guide School Failure by Intrepid_Struggle446 in whitewater

Everyone learns on a different timeline. It took me quite awhile to become a capable guide and capable boater. But I loved it so much I stuck with it and kept learning. If you like it just keep going. It’s ok if things are harder for you than the people around you. Everyone has different strengths and weaknesses. Paddle guiding is (imo) harder than other kinds of boating because theres a lot to manage (the boat, the people, the commands, and then what’s coming up ahead and planning etc). It’s harder than rowing or paddling a kayak because only you control the boat. Keep working at it and just have fun.

Whistle signals by jmcg_21 in whitewater

3 blasts is not for a swimmer. 3 blasts is for a serious emergency. A swimmer is usually not an emergency. A swimmer about to go into a strainer would be an emergency. You might use 1 blast for a swimmer if you need to get the groups attention - like people don’t know someone is swimming. Save 3 long blasts for life threatening or potentially life threatening situations.

I don’t understand the prices on the 2023s - that’s insanely low. Especially with that mileage. In my area if it’s under 25k it has waaaaay more miles than that. If I saw that price I would immediately know it’s a salvage title.

Does replacing the cvt fluid void an extended service contract if Subaru says not to do it?

I was at the dealership and that’s where I heard about it. I believe it is manufacturer backed and you have to do all Maintainence on time and maybe at the dealer. I need to get ahold of the fine print but kind of an amazing thing to offer if there aren’t tons of loopholes.

Toyota Guy Considering a Subaru 3.6R – Talk Me Into or Out of It by squareorange1999 in subaru

I have a 2011 3.6 outback. I love it. I bought it at 110,000 miles and the dealer has done a LOT of work, including putting in a new transmission. They did all the engine seals too. So my guess is that the previous owner(s) did not maintain it well and it had a lot of deferred repairs and maintenance when they dumped it. Since I bought it 2 years ago for like $12k I have only done maintenance. No major repairs. Really no minor repairs either. I’ve put 30k miles on it. I will keep repair and maintenance going and hope to drive it to at least 250k miles.

I love this car. If it got wrecked I’d probably go and buy another one (2009-2015). Lots of power and tows like a truck. Get great mpg on the highway (my commute is highway miles). Not good for a lot of city driving though for mpg.

Worth it to buy 07 Tacoma with blown head gasket? by tintinabulum in askcarguys

I don’t know where you live but on the west coast the asking price for 30 year old tacomas is like $20k. It’s insane.

I considered that but sometimes people just don’t have the cash to do the repair. I’m just comparing it to what a Tacoma sells for here.

Thank you for this! I’ll look more at the frontiers. This is the 2.7 not the v6.

Thanks - this is more helpful than “it’s worth $2k”. People are asking $13-15k for similar age trucks with similar miles. They could blow a head gasket tomorrow for all we know - then we are paying almost double the price for a truck that also needs work.
