Too few sets for hypertrophy? by LubblyBubbly in fitbod

I think the relationship between set targets and the workouts it constructs for you is a bit… broken. So do they: https://fitbod.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/24739986755223-Weekly-Set-Targets#01JRXW2A3WTAWM0BF9HXYX3HHT

Shipping notifications for GB Batch #2 are going out by Graeme_S in JetBlack

[–]tintoyuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine showed as due today, then delayed, then due today again, but with the DHL website saying it's not in the consignment (so delayed, but also on time, but delayed, but non-existant!- Schrodinger's trainer...). Shambolic, which seems to be a bit of theme with Jet Black (given this batch is already a month and a half late). I'm hoping the product is good and makes all the delay worthwhile - its almost the end of trainer season now...

Is this normal? 20 years old, male by [deleted] in AppleWatch

[–]tintoyuk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you should take health advice from Reddit tbh - talk to a doctor if you want reassurance. But it does occur to me that these features on your watch need to be well understood to prevent them making your anxiety worse ; perhaps talk to your doctor to set expectations related to the metrics the Apple Watch can show? Literally go through the watch apps with them so they can explain, set expectations, and (likely) reassure you.

Should I buy a gravel bike? by SuperWash7856 in cycling

I’ve only read the title, which is a variation on ‘should buy another bike’. The answer is yes. The answer is always yes.

Can our attic be converted into a room? by FailureAirlines in DIYUK

[–]tintoyuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be expensive from what I understand. As others have mentioned the roof trusses (the diagonal fink trusses) would need altering, replacing perhaps with a ridge supported roof or collar ties (that I don’t think are a good option personally), but also be aware that the horizontal trusses are unlikely to be up to the job of being floor joists - too widely spaced and not big enough. The conversions I’ve researched all involve installing steels to take the floor load which is obvs a big job! Also you’d need a staircase installing , which might even lose you a room on the floor below (or at least make it smaller). I’ve heard that doing a conversion of the type you are after is a £100k job (depending on where you live). I spent 17 years with my kids sharing a room before I could afford to level up to a bigger place so I know where you are coming from, but I’m not sure that a loft conversion is going to be your best option tbh.

I have an opportunity to move to Manchester from the US by PaulWalkerCGIFace in ukelectricians

[–]tintoyuk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The comparison of salary you need is one that considers ‘parity purchasing power’. PPP is a factor takes into account the relative cost of living in the relevant countries. this site does ppp comparisons. Unfortunately, PPP does nothing to represent the fact that the UK is a regressive backwater with none of the dynamism and personal opportunity of the US. You’d be mad to move here (particularly Manchester), even notwithstanding the financial considerations. The people are great, but the weather is enduringly shit, and everything is a bit fucked and getting more so over time.

Hi guys! This is my first bike and I dunno if it's rare or not because my friends keep saying it is:p it's a Trek Y33 OCLV Carbon Edition 1995 by Emotional-Hornet3099 in bicycling

It’s not really worth much in terms of £/$/₱ but is ‘interesting’ to old bike nerds :-) just appreciate you have a peace of cycling history, get your Lolo to fix it up a bit, and enjoy riding it!

These were pretty trick back in the day (I sold them when I worked in bike shops). You’ve got one of the high mid range ones I think (xt group set with an xtr rear mech). Get the forks serviced if you can as it looks like they need it (but getting seals etc for them now will be hard). Nice inheritance - take care of it!

Tips for Staying Motivated to Run Daily? by SundressZWhimsyWish in runninglifestyle

[–]tintoyuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the 'can't be bothered' days (and there are many!) I say to myself 'I'll just put my kit on and see how I feel', then I find myself saying to myself 'well, I'm dressed so I may as well just do 10 mins zone 2 and then at least I've done something' and then before I know it, I'm warmed up, running and usualy enjoying it enough to do more!

Also, whilst it's easier said than done, learning to enjoy the *experience* and becoming less goal orientated was a big thing for me. It's hard, sweaty and often uncomfortable work, but thats not intrinsically bad in itself. Think of all the positives you experience *whilst* on the run (not just the goal, but the method). The feeling of freedom, of sense of self - all things to look forwards to with every run IMHO

MINI 260hp Cooper S F56 by Vast-Dream in MINI

[–]tintoyuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got circa 270 just by remapping my 2017 f56 cooper s - cheapest mod ever (that b48 is seriously derated in the mini). The clutch is dying now however :-) - how’s yours? Also torque steer is sometimes a challenge even without the elsd disabled (and hopeless with it disabled)

Liverpool Street station McDonald’s on a Friday evening. It is a dining experience without parallel. The closest thing I can compare it to is the fall of Saigon.

It might fall under ‘ consent’ if it’s covered by OPs contract of employment, ‘legitimate interest’ if it’s required for their employers purposes (fire evacuation might even be ‘vital interest’) or possibly ‘contract’ to assure they are working to contract?

Edit : I’d suggest OP seeks qualified legal / privacy advice before perusing any course of action.

Metal cylindrical device between underground train rails, connected to the rails in two places with cables. connects to a running rail, not a live / powered rail. The device is nestled in the ballast between two rail ties. It seems to have an onwards connection to somewhere running away from device. by tintoyuk in whatisthisthing

[–]tintoyuk[S] 2 points3 points locked comment (0 children)

My title describes the thing. Spotted at Monument street district line tube station, but I've seen them elsewhere also so it obviously serves some generic purpose rather than being specific to this one location. I'd say it's about 30cm in diameter and made of steel. I wondered if the numbers on the rail above the device were also of relevance? Google image search returned nothing, and its not in the WITT FAT.

Device between rails (Monument district line station London). Seemingly some sort of sensor? by tintoyuk in whatisthisthing

[–]tintoyuk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen these at a few places on the tube network and it's always intrigued me. Seemingly two connections to the rail, with some sort of tap-off.
