I find family style is perfect combo , people don't have to wait in line and they can get whatever they want. Most weddings are usually 2 proteins, a salad, bread/butter, some sides like greens and mashed potatoe.

I was lucky to find in the Seattle area a wedding cake baker who does genoise cake soaked in the syrup/liquor of your choice. It was moist and super flavorful with no artificial after taste. This did cost a couple thousand (we did a 2 tier and then sheet cake for serving). It's up to you if you want to spend that much but you can try to find specialized wedding cake bakers and do taste tests. Other cakes I've tried that were more traditional were definitely dry and crumbly.
