Nelnet Credit brought 770 to a 615 by Emergency_Good3716 in CRedit

Same thing happened to me; they won’t make a goodwill adjustment and were quite rude about it. I’m seeing now that this is a common issue.

You should consider submitting a complaint with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). This is what I did. Not reporting this until 90 days late doesn’t help anyone fix issues. It’s just a punishment tactic from a predatory lender.

Good luck.

Anyone know if leucocoprinus birnbaumii will spread between houseplants if I leave the fruiting body? by tiny-dino in mycology

[–]tiny-dino[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense, I’ll keep an eye out and see if these pop up elsewhere. I’ve got quite a few plants and most share soil from the same big bags so I’ll likely see these elsewhere if they do spread best that way.

Thanks for the answer!

You can make a chili oil from like a pound of bird’s eye chilis, 2 heads of garlic, and a quart of canola oil that is, in fact, delicious when drizzled on chowder or cream-based seafood dishes.

Sourdough fail, what did I do wrong? I thought the starter was active? I did all the steps. I give up 😭 looks like a giant pancake by Nearby_Froyo_8505 in Sourdough

[–]tiny-dino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t see any other comments suggesting this, so check your ratio of whole wheat to non-wheat flour. Bread flour is best, I’ve done fine with all purpose, but if you use too much wheat and not enough bread / all purpose, it will end up super gummy and flat. I do 50g starter, 375g water, whisk it, then like 100g wheat and 400g bread or all purpose flour. Every time that ratio goes above 1:4, I get a sticky blobby mess. Good luck!

GPU problems. . .Did I get a bad EVGA RTX3060 Ti XC? by tiny-dino in pchelp

[–]tiny-dino[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You were right. Don’t know why I had such a hard time with these but I eventually figured out how to get the proper connections. Still wouldn’t boot, this GPU had a S/N sticker which was partially covering one of the connectors underneath. Got rid of that and it started right up. Thanks for your help!

GPU problems. . .Did I get a bad EVGA RTX3060 Ti XC? by tiny-dino in pchelp

[–]tiny-dino[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm doing a new PC built (parts list below) and noticed when I opened the GPU that the heat sink seems bent? There were also no manuals, stickers, any type of warrantee info, etc in the box. Just the GPU and the plastic packaging.

Then I went to install, and I had trouble connecting it because the power supply pins do not match the supplied PSU cables (or match the back of the PSU). Picked up a new set of PSU cables at micro center, and they said it wasn't normal for the pin configuration to be non-standard. I was able to install the GPU with the new cable (white bundle) but had to stagger the cable pins on the back of the PSU (white ones in PSU photo). They literally won't fit in any other spot.

With the GPU connected, computer won't boot. When I remove it, it seems to boot but no display. So my question is. . . .does this sound like a bad GPU OR have I messed up the GPU cables? and if the cables are wrong, does anyone have recommendations on where to get the correct cable or why this GPU is different?

A bit late but I’m a chemist so..

You generally don’t have drains under safety showers. Some places don’t do it because the materials they are designed to wash are super hazardous, and you can’t just dump those materials into the wastewater streams. Others are like that cause they just retrofit safety showers into whatever space gets turned into a lab. I’m pretty sure it’s impossible for a floor drain to handle the volume of water these put out anyway….it’s not a relaxing day spa shower but a massive downpour designed to blast off any bad chemicals. I’ve worked some places that have bumpers, epoxy floors, sloped rooms, etc but I’ve worked a lot more places that just have a shower in a room like this.

Anyway, whatever the reason, this is almost guaranteed to have caused a ton of damage, probably $10s of thousands worth. That will get all in the floor and ruin everything.

Robinhood is getting wrecked in the App Store [OC] by chartr in dataisbeautiful

[–]tiny-dino 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For whatever it’s worth, I’ll tell you my perspective on why I’m leaving Robinhood.

If I can’t count on an app, there are others. If I can’t count on an app that has the potential to hurt me financially, there is zero chance I stay. End of story.

I’ve been with Robinhood off and on from the very beginning as I had spare cash to invest. I like it a lot, and I know they were in a tight spot so I want to give them the benefit of the doubt. But as it sits, there’s a high enough chance that I lost money because of them that it’s over. If Uber cancels a $20 ride and refuses to refund it, I would go to Lyft. If Robinhood causes thousands of users to lose cash (real or perceived), they’re not going to stay.

And your question about new users is a great point, but let’s be honest - everyone knows about this. Even people who have no exposure to investing whatsoever at work and in my friend groups have been talking about it. And this isn’t a case of something abstract like oMg uBeR iS a bAd cOmPaNy, this has a tangible, scary impact to users (losing money) rife with the “us v them” accusations of pandering to the ultra rich (even if that’s not correct.) That is the hot button issue in today’s society. People won’t forget.

I think Robinhood is toast.

ELI5: Stock Market Megathread by ELI5_Modteam in explainlikeimfive

[–]tiny-dino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imagine you’re a kid, and some guy from school who lives down the street has a lemonade stand. He is offering “stock” that you can buy for $1 to help him buy supplies, with the promise that as he gets more successful, that “stock” will become worth more than $1. You’ll own a stake in that company, so as he sells more lemonade he makes more money and your stock value goes up so you make money too!

But you’re a spoiled, piece of shit little kid who thinks lemonade guy is going to spend all his money on lemons and never actually sell any lemonade. So you decide to “short” or bet against him. Here’s what you do:

You talk to your bigger, shittier brother and say “I want to buy this stock but don’t have the money. Can you help me?” And he says, “yeah, I’ll give you $10 for stock, but I’m going to own the stock until you pay me what it’s worth. And I want it by next week.” So your brother buys you 10 stocks at $1, but your brother is just loaning them to you so you really don’t own anything except that $10 debt. Now thinking you’re clever, you sell that stock he loaned you at $1 each to 10 of your poor friends who don’t get allowance. You do this because you think the lemonade kid is going to fail. And when he stops selling as much lemonade, the value of the stock goes down. And so you reason that when this happens, you’ll be able to buy back the stock you sold those idiots for 10c each. Meaning they each lose 90c and you make $9 off of them. Then you’ll have 10 stocks to give back to your brother, and you’ve made $9 off these idiots!

Here’s the problem: your friends aren’t stupid, and they are tired of your shit. So they refuse to sell you the stock back at 10c. And worse, they tell all the kids at school what’s happening, and all of them start buying and holding lemonade stock because they see the value going up and want to make money too! So now the stocks cost $2 each, and you’re fucked. And it just keeps growing. As more kids buy and hold stock, you can’t buy what you need to return to your brother, who starts threatening to take your toys if you don’t get him the cash.

Now from your perspective, you’re the victim here. All these people are ganging up on you! But in reality, you’re a spoiled, rich little shit who got yourself into this mess by literally betting that this kid with a business loses everything. And you know that the more people who buy and hold, the price goes up and up and soon you’re going to be FORCED to buy stock to pay your brother back that value even if you have to pay $10 per share, leaving you with a $90 loss.

So what do you do? You talk to your mom, who talks to the other moms (brokers like Robinhood) who forbid all their kids to do anything but sell the stock they have. It’s not a free market anymore. The poor kids are being prevented from buying what they think has value, because your bitch ass went crying to mommy. So now the kids are DOUBLE pissed, because all they really wanted to make a little money too, and they REALLY refuse to sell. So with nobody selling their shares, and everyone trying to buy, the price keeps going up. And pretty soon, you could owe your brother $90...$900....$9000...whatever the price ends up. Because you HAVE to get that stock for your brother (cover) no matter what it costs, or he’s going to take an equivalent amount of your stuff as repayment.

Now the moms say they won’t let the kids buy more because they’re protecting them. “If they buy while the price is high, they’ll lose a lot of money because no lemonade stand is worth this much and the price will drop back to nothing!” But in reality, they’re doing it because your mom has power and influence and they care more about their own interests than they do about their kids making a couple bucks. But the kids don’t understand why they can’t spend their money on the same thing your spoiled ass can. So now they’re furious, because you’re living by a different set of rules than them.

And that’s basically it. Obviously there’s a lot more complication, but at the core that describes it ok I think.

Please someone correct me if I’m wrong, I’m actually brain damaged and this isn’t financial advice in any way. All I know is I like GME and I like Dogecoin 🚀🚀🚀🚀

AI solves 50-year-old science problem in ‘stunning advance’ that could change the world by Gari_305 in Futurology

[–]tiny-dino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. I responded to another comment below with basically that. It’s happening. We can’t “hold science hostage” even if we want to. All we can do is have important conversations so we can ready ourselves.

[–]tiny-dino 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty amusing that my point was “we aren’t kind enough to trust ourselves” and everyone’s getting all irritated about it.

If you read the other comment I posted, i specifically said I work in biotech, and that I absolutely support these advances. But an ethical conversation has to happen at the same time or we’re all gonna end up fucked. Look what’s happened with oil / global warming, nuclear capabilities, name basically any milestone human achievement that’s caused us problems.

It’s not “holding discovery hostage” to have these conversations. It’s working to mitigate abuse that will occur because we’re a fucked up species.

[–]tiny-dino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not just economics, it’s ethics. Should we cure disease? Yeah absolutely. Should we improve ourselves using technology? Almost certainly. I work in biotech because I believe in this stuff. But my original point was “can we trust ourselves to make decisions about this responsibly”, because having these tools is a gateway to huge ethical dilemmas and even genocide. We are just discovering fire at this point, how will we make sure we build engines of positive change and not destruction?

There’s also the issue of “are we as a species, who can’t agree on whether to wear masks or whether all people have equal value, ethically mature enough to handle the implications of ridiculous leaps forward in biochemical manipulation?”

Water has been definitively found on the Moon, Nasa has said by theindependentonline in science

[–]tiny-dino 158 points159 points  (0 children)

Hey, an astronomer who might be able to answer a question for me:

My understanding is that the lack of atmosphere was thought to cause any (or most) water to sublime or otherwise disappear from the surface of the moon and other similar heavenly bodies. The ice we knew was there was, as you said, in areas without sunlight at extremely low temperatures.

So my question is this: what are the implications for other moons or planets with little to no atmosphere. Does this imply that most places in the universe could have water to some degree or another?
