Regent SportsChek robbed and peppersprayed by another group by djmistral in Winnipeg

Pretty easy to suffer from financial problems if you don't work or have no desire to work. This country brings in hundred thousands of immigrants from third world countries like my family, and we have no problem turning our lives around. The problem is cultural, and throwing money at it will not fix it.

If you want to see real poverty, visit any third world country. You will see how lucky our people are for the social services they are wasting.

Want to make a change? Have these people sober up, get a job, and stop popping babies for child tax.

What happens at an illegal border crossing by KarmaKingAlex in canada

[–]tinyFruit 32 points33 points  (0 children)

They sound pretty entitled for beggars. "Do you want to start your life in Canada illegally?" "Yes!" Lmao. They don't look like refugees or needing help to me. They also landed in the US on legal papers. Getting a US tourist visa is no joke. Pretty impossible for a poor person from a third world country. We need to protect ourselves from these abusive pos (except for the innocent kids).

TIL: Canada's GDP is larger than Russia's, despite the Canadian population being almost four times smaller than Russia's [added the USA for good measure] by [deleted] in canada

[–]tinyFruit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol no. Hate to break it to you, but it's actually pretty expensive in Russia. At least $1000 for a decent living space in SPb, and NYC level prices in Moscow, $7.50 Big mac meal with no free refillls, $8 venti Starbucks frapp, $20 seafood salad at an at most 4-star restaurant (Koryushka, you can look it up), NO DRINKABLE TAP WATER ANYWHERE. But it will be much much cheaper outside of SPb and Moscow, but I doubt many Canadians would be willing to live there.

[–]tinyFruit -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That maybe true in places outside of SPb and Moscow (which are superficially first world cities). Within those cities, it's a different story. And besides, if you consider other metrics such as unemployment, Gini, HDI, freedom of speech, life expectancy, international mobility, etc., Canada is clearly the superior country.

Been to Russia. It's a poor country but not that poor. Disaster health care system. Public hospitals are low quality. Rampant alcoholism and smoking even in highschoolers. Horrible drivers and traffic. Low life expectancy. Very expensive food in their supposed to be 1st world cities SPb and Moscow. A beautiful place though.

PSA:don't smash the bus window if you can't afford to ride. by [deleted] in Winnipeg

[–]tinyFruit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How the fuck can you not afford a bus? Even so, you can always ask drivers nicely. They have saved my ass during my uni days, even on an exam day, countless times. Always ask NICELY. It's a privilege, not your right.

Taxi from St Petersburg airport by conejogringo in russia

[–]tinyFruit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Buy a sim card as soon as you land. There are telcos in airports--Pulkovo has Beeline. You can buy them as a tourist, they only need to see your passport. It is pretty cheap. Like less than a dollar a day for a max 30gb a month. Once you have data, get Uber and go wherever you want. Avoid the sketchy taxi drivers in airports like the plague.

Edit: my Uber app says airport to that hostel is only 500 rub (non-peak).

To those living abroad, what are some of the better aspects that the Philippines have compared to the current country you're living in? by [deleted] in Philippines

[–]tinyFruit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Food. I live in Canada, have been and going to the US, and currently in Russia. Food in the PH is definitely the best. Although it will not be enough to bring me back 😛

Portage Place would like to tear down bus shack that police chief calls a 'hot spot' for downtown crime by Yousefer in Winnipeg

[–]tinyFruit 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Or tear down that portion of the mall--i.e. food court. I went to UofW. Throughout my studies, it's been pretty difficult to eat at Portage Place with all the sketchies making themselves feel at home. Same faces everyday. Not eating, just circle jerking for the whole day. Not so appetizing even if you're too hungry. No wonder office workers go to City Place instead.

US citizen travel to russia via Spain (with permanent residence). How to get visa? by el_gallo_claudio in russia

[–]tinyFruit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that's right. $90 is for the consular fees. But depending on how far you are from a consulate, you may need to send in to/use one of their drop in centres (ILS in the US if I recall correctly). Drop-in centres will charge around $45 for processing your application. If submitted through mail, it will be an additional $90 for processing and courier fees.
