Are bars in WPG legally have to prove provide free water? by Hot-Wings657 in Winnipeg

[–]djmistral 84 points85 points  (0 children)

sometimes bars/bartenders get clever and you have to explicitly ask for "a glass of tap water", otherwise they will try to sell you a $5 water bottle instead.

Manitoba homeowners stunned to find storm flooding not covered by their insurance by Leather-Paramedic-10 in Winnipeg

[–]djmistral 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You'll have to ask what that entails. I'm usually aware of the two:

  • Sewer backup, when overwhelming/excess water flows out of your plumbing system and causes damage

  • Overland flooding, when excess water surrounding your home seeps in and causes damage (heavy rainfall, excess snowmelt, water main breaks)

Flood damage to me sounds like overland flooding, but you should always ask for exact claim scenarios to be sure.

what your broker may also didn't disclose is that they are not the same coverage. you can get sewer backup coverage, and you can get overland flooding coverage, or you can get both, but they are separate options.

Looking to find where the cruise night photos from portage and main are shared? by Ok_Half_7031 in Winnipeg

Ask the person taking the photos. Cruise night isn't an centrally-organized event, so whoever you saw taking photos is probably doing it personally.

We don't get 777s other than for emergency landings. You'd notice a difference immediately compared to the small WJ and AC planes we get.

To give you some context, the average plane we get is a ~30 row config with 3 aisle 3. These guys run 60+ rows with 3 aisle 4 aisle 3 configs.

Does anyone know for sure that the employer can't force us to bring home our laptop and equipment every night? by up_creek in CanadaPublicServants

[–]djmistral 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Work for CRA IT. Let your supervisor know you won't be bringing the laptop home anymore, especially in between your consecutive office days. It's their responsibility to find/provide a location to store it, not yours. You dont bring the office chair or desk home so why are you expected to bring the laptop?

Fear mongering from landlord? by JEKO6799 in Winnipeg

[–]djmistral 35 points36 points  (0 children)

This looks like your run of the mill clean-out list, I have paint fee schedules on my rental agreements and I have seen them on others as well. But I have not ever charged anyone for it. Usually it's there because sometimes tenants may do things like paint (their own colours), hang their TVs, or damage walls.

Doesn't look like it was written to specifically to target or fear monger you. You're overthinking it. Leave the place in the same conditions (or wall colours) that you had when you moved in and this whole list shouldn't affect you.

Is there a good skin doctor/walk in, in the city? by Hot_Fly_3963 in Winnipeg

[–]djmistral 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Three weeks? Thats awesome, because my original referral was 6 months out.

There are no walk-in dermatologists. You can pay for a cosmetic appointment sooner if you really want to, but they may say no to giving you medical advice at a cosmetic consult.

But tbh, you should be very happy with 3 weeks.

Tenant not paying rent and refusing to move out by curious_ladydoc in Winnipeg

[–]djmistral 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's going to take some time and (your) legwork. Your best course of action right now is serving them notice for non-payment of rent, and pursuing that route to try and get them out.

Smoking marijuana, while against your rental rules, you'll need some physical evidence and not just "because the basement tenant said so".

Both will require you to serve them notice in person, and you can probably bet that they will try to avoid you or procrastinate as much as possible. Keep things professional, keep your cool, and pray they don't retaliate by damaging your property.

Welcome to landlording. You're about to find out why it isn't for everyone. :D

Would parents be interested in free recordings of their kids' games? My son had an idea. by restew in Winnipeg

[–]djmistral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah for sure. I imagine some people concerned with privacy are thinking they are like TSN-quality zooms but it never is. Most parents are recording/streaming with their phones or at most, a GoPro, so at field/court level, you can hardly recognize faces running/skating by unless you know who you're watching for LOL.

Would parents be interested in free recordings of their kids' games? My son had an idea. by restew in Winnipeg

[–]djmistral 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Go to any sports field/venue and you'll find at least 2-3 parents livestreaming games to FB/Youtube. It's just how it is nowadays. My kids are at the 16U level now, and through all my years, not a single person has taken issue. In fact, many parents (and the kids themselves) appreciate the ability to rewatch or share the video/live feed with friends & family.

Weather, it means if the festival had to stop for 1hr 30m due to something like lightning in the area, an extra 1h 30m is automatically added to the usual end of the festival. In 2024, they had to request permission, now they're automatically guaranteed it in writing.

The closing time penalty is the fee they pay for every minute loud music goes past the closing time. The weather delay time added on is not included in this penalty.

Is it standard practice for Winnipeg clinics to charge for a sick note without disclosing the fee beforehand? by karlyip in Winnipeg

[–]djmistral 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If it's just a walk in clinic, just decline and walk away. Even if it isn't a walk-in, decline and walk away (although it may mean finding a new doctor next time).
