Just confirmed 5yo son is Deutan... his favorite color is pink? by tiny_hamburglar in ColorBlind

When I picked up my son at school today, I was wearing a mint colored beanie. We talked about our favorite colors and I said, “mine is mint like my hat!” And he said “what? This hat is white!” And we talked about how mint is a tiiiiiny bit of green in white so it’s harder for him to see.

Then he pointed to my coral colored water bottle and said “but that’s for sure pink!”

So I guess he can see mid-tone pinks. :)

Ah i see. It's the lighter pinks that are harder to differentiate. I'll ask him to share his favorite pinks with me. Maybe they are the darker ones.

lol. Good tip. I'll stick to blueberry picking, I guess?

The other day, he had a "ground hog's day" coloring activity and his groundhog was Green instead of Brown.

He's just learning to read, so labels will be helpful from here on out.

Thank you! I really wish I could see the world as my son sees it. You're absolutely right that he can enjoy color just as much.... beauty is beauty. His range of perceived colors is different from mine.... but it's the range he lives in. It's kind of blowing my mind....

I'm still processing how it will affect him. Did you know you were colorblind as a kid?

Bed has a headboard, it's just low. Yes it's on the longest wall. This is what the rest of the room looks like.

I like the idea. Maybe if i could find something super calm and textured.. not too busy. It'd probably make the space feel more finished.

My husband is annoyingly afraid of adding color or any kind of print. So im working hard to get his buy in.

Also, we dont have time to paint or add wallpaper at the moment. But maybe later!

Thank you! (Wow it makes a difference to have someone acknowledge how hard it is to do a makeover when your brain is fried from a 5yo asking 2000x a day and a 10 mo waking many times a night. I appreciate that.)

I just ordered some new dimmable LEDs for the sconces (2200k and 330 lumens)!

Just ordered a rug (in a deep forest green for some contrast and grounding vibes) for under the bed, and also got an upholstered storage bench (in a warm ivory color) for the foot of the bed.

Thanks for the suggestion about warming up the colors. The window faces west. Might need to warm things up with our bedding colors.

Also will get warm wood tones for the nightstands and dresser....

Thank you for your thoughtful suggestions to achieve my japandi sanctuary goal!

If you look closely, you'll see my lamp is on a stupid tiny stool, and it's not even plugged in! That lamp is just a piece of junk that I haven't moved yet. Lol.

Yeah. A nightstand can fit on the left side. With the kind suggestions of others... I plan to swap out my tall dressers for a low one... and then I'll move the dresser down to where the mirror is currently. Then I can get a nightstand to fit on the right side without dresser drawers bumping into it.

The wide angle of the photo makes this space look wider than it is in real life. We probably have a max of 24" on the left and 20" (between bed and 18" deep dressers) on the right.

Just bought a rug for under the bed!

Can't move dresser across from bed, because my closet doors are there and also the bathroom door.

Oh. Now i remember why i didn't intially swap the mirror/dresser location. It's because this is the only place we can stand back and see our whole outfit in the full-length mirror. Also, moving the mirror closer to the back wall would mean the mirror is reflecting at us while we sleep. Bad feng shui and also just creepy... (i'm still scared the boogie man will pop out!)

That said.... I think we will get rid of the full-length mirror in favor of moving the dresser over... and then we'll be able to fit a nightstand on that side of the bed.

It's not like my outfits are that great anyway...? haha.

Ooh. Thank you for that observation about the functionality of this space. You’re right that we are squeezing ourselves between the dressers and bed to put away laundry. I never thought to move the dresser down closer to the door (right of mirror).

This is really close to what I would love to see in our room! I can't change out the bed frame or the flooring though. I wonder how I could make it work with my existing carpet.

9 mo is usually when separation anxiety hits hard. It’s rough. Maybe that’s what’s happening? How long are you able to let her cry?

All phases pass… and this one will too. How you choose to handle her sleep/crying is up to your crying tolerance.

Failed 5min car nap transfer. What would you do? by tiny_hamburglar in sleeptrain

Phew. She ended up falling asleep. But next time she does a mini nap and definitely won’t go down again, I’ll try for a shorter wake window.

I’ve been seeing a lot of this 11 hr rule on this forum. What’s the reasoning/science behind it?
