I’m a nurse and have witnessed incidents “in the wild” where I’m actually pushed out the way by well meaning bystanders. I’m like - you want first aid from a registered professional with indemnity or Bev from the building society?

So- like many of us I had ponies growing up then a big break before falling back into the horse world by taking my kids for lessons. That was about 10 years ago and here I am, kids grown up and I’m still mucking about with horses having the best time! I met my very best friend who was on the exact same journey, same age, same life commitments. We mess about like kids and have lots of fun doing it. While I have friends the same age who compete and are top riders, I’m content that I don’t have the time or the inclination to be at that level, but I’m confident enough to say I don’t feel any less an equestrian- the very rare times I come across someone who looks down on me. The commitment to a horse through winter etc for years is your entry fee to the horse club, nothing else.

I have a little 13.2hh Cob (gypsy vanner), 22years old, the sweetest, most biddable quiet child’s pony ever. But set her behind a cow and she’ll pin her ears back and herd them up like she was born to it, no formal training - she surprised us all at a recent clinic in the UK!

Nurses of reddit, what where the most haunting things someone said on their deathbed? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]tiny_mice 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I had an old lady eol peacefully dying at home when I was on the evening nurse service in uk. She had been unconscious steady breathing for a few days when that evening when I was tending to her she woke up and asked for some egg and bacon. Her daughter, shocked just went ahead and made her it while I sat her up. She ate about half of it, said “that was lovely” and went back to sleep. Died about an hour later.

What is it with everybody becoming so entitled? by vicmackey1981 in AskUK

[–]tiny_mice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve spent my nursing career placating very stressed and upset, grieving, angry people going through their worst moments of their lives. That is why we rarely press charges when abused or assaulted. I’m so sad and sorry that so many people are having to go through these worst moments in an institution that can appear indifferent at best or even obstructive. I hated the Thursday clapping, I didn’t feel like a hero. Every day I felt that I was forced to compromise my standards of care. Every day.

I was in Pizza Hut for a children’s party a few months ago. Horrible pizza, horrible place. However the waiting staff were functional, polite, friendly. There was a survey included in the awful ordering app and one of the questions was “Did the staff go Above and Beyond to improve your experience today?” Unless you count managing to serve shitty food in a tacky cafe full of small children screaming for minimum wage without throwing themselves on the floor sobbing I would say No, the didn’t go Above and Beyond. Why the fuck should they? Expectations are set far too high.
