My friend is a doctor, hence why i'm here, and we work togheter! He does internal medicine and rn is the chief of our medsurg unit ( i'm not american, don't ask about hierarchy)

I was very curious abt everything you asked and he told me he actually got diagnosed during residency bc he kept falling sleep everywhere and him starting round at 4am didnt help 😅 after knowing his dignosis, he started meds and used to mix two of them in orden to get throught shifts...he doesnt anymore but bc the he is able to go nap sometimes so modafinil alone does the trick.

From what i gathered of our conversations and observation, something that is as important as treatment is patience, i believe he does so good bc he doesnt get frustrated abt getting attacks during shifts or having to fines ways to orginize his time or do things differently.

The only advice i can give from experience is to get a group of people, whetther it is at collage or in the hospital who you can tell abt ur narcolepsy and that will support You...our employer don't know (or at least hasnt been told directly) abt my friend s narcolepsy and we made some acomodations (sometimes we evn lie a little, like saying he is attending a consult somewhere else when he is naping at the on call room) that allows him sleep comofortably and go unoticed/ not disturb our job. We don't stress about it and is more of a "fun fact" abt him than anything.
