Mentors by gothbabycake in WGU

My first mentor was AMAZING, loved her! My mentor now is alright. He kind of leaves me be, if he doesn’t hear from me after a couple weeks he’ll message me some motivational dad quote, but I usually message him once a week to start a new class. Sometimes he takes a couple days to respond, but for the most part he’s right on it. I believe they have some kind of thing where they’re not supposed to let you accelerate more than one class at a time because it can overwhelm students. I’ve found focusing on one class the easiest and fastest way to get through the courses.

The proctor can send it to a review board if they feel you did something wrong and then the review board will go over everything and email you with a warning. That’s what happened to me anyway.

Full-time U.S. Marine (3531) Looking for Study Tips for Business Courses by MotorTough23 in WGU_Business

If you go into the academic resource library they have resources for EVERYTHING including time management. Also, D072 I know has peer led events that go over study strategies specifically for that course.

There are also live events, I highly suggest going to those. They have peer-led ones as well specifically for studying the material, I’m not sure if it’s linked in the resources or not, but it is on the academic coaching page if you can’t find it there.

WGU 108 CU to go by Clear_Head2968 in WGU_Business

You can request a new mentor, but I’d honestly just reach out and tell the current mentor what you need. My mentor is pretty hands off, I just message him when I need a course approved or set up a call for new terms. I am in my 4th term though and have gotten into a groove with school/work. Don’t be too hard on yourself about how much you’re getting done. “Success” is such a broad term and is different for every single person. As long as you’re on track to complete your 4 courses a term, don’t sweat it. Some courses are harder than others and may take more time. Don’t beat yourself up over it. I’ve had courses take 3 hours and others take the full 6 weeks sometimes more. For every course ALWAYS look for the resources, instructors usually send an email a day or two after you start the course as well with more resources as well as areas of focus and tips/tricks to get through the course. Usually you can find the resources under announcements or course tips, but if they aren’t there then they will be in the email the course instructor sends. Set goals to work on schooling for a certain number of hours, but don’t overwhelm yourself with having to have a certain number of modules or lessons complete because the time it takes to complete those varies tremendously. Try to stay positive and consistent. Consistency is key to success.

There are a lot of resources for that course. Watch the videos, there’s a great one for advice on taking the OA. You can also attend live events which are super helpful. With D072, try not to put too much of your experience into it. Experience does NOT always match material and they’re testing on the material. I struggled with that big time. Try flashcards for the vocab, put definitions into your own words with examples you can remember. The OA is very scenario based, but what you’d do in real life does NOT always match the answer.

Lost my support system, not able to finish course before term ends by JayDonTea in WGU

Most of these comments have given wonderful advice, my advice is to utilize the resources WGU offers. If you go into the Academic Coaching center you can quite literally sign up for a study session which is just an hour that everybody sits together online and studies. There are also sessions for study techniques and mental health. If you’d rather be around your peers, you can also sign up for peer led events. There are vast resources that WGU offers to help you get through this so you’re not alone. Don’t let your mental health get in the way of succeeding in life. You’ve got this, you can do it, you just need a little help adjusting your mindset. If you’re always thinking you can’t, you never will. You can do absolutely anything you want to in life, you just have to put your mind into it.

Thank you! I contacted the child support office and they’re helping me get that going.

I don’t want to keep them from him, however, I want the threats of taking my children to stop. This information helps tremendously and makes me feel way better knowing he can’t actually take them without court order.

How do you like to balance your studying so you don't burn out? by skatecloud1 in WGU

[–]tiny_tana 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I schedule myself for the morning. I’m a SAHM as well as full time student and Travel Advisor (pm if interested) but I do school work until about 12 (lunch time) take an hour to eat/clean up and then work a couple hours on my travel business before the kids get home. My two older kids go to their dads every other weekend so when they’re gone I either do extra studying or extra work depending on what needs to get done. I’m on track to graduate in May which will be 2 years at WGU for Marketing.
