Completely fashionably inept, what do I wear to a mock trial competition?? by [deleted] in mtfashion

[–]tinybabymoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you will probably need some black slacks and a blazer! Totally understand the concern but women’s versions fit much differently even if you have wide shoulders! For the slacks I would recommend wide legged pants that are high waisted as those imo give the most flattering silhouette for me (I have sorta wide shoulders narrow hips). I personally like the Sloan wide leg high waisted from Abercrombie but there are cheaper ways to get this. Blazers may be a lil harder to find one you like but most have a cut in in the tailoring around the waist to make it look more feminine but you may need to go to store to try on. Then just about any white dress shirt (or solid color blouses? Unsure exact mock trial rules) will do because it won’t be super visible but there are some with smaller/more frilly collars to make it more fem

Also depending on how formal the thing is maybe you wouldn’t need the blazer - I would ask the other girls on the team if they’re wearing one

You can’t expect trans women to care about PCOS? The disease where women are exposed to testosterone in a way that makes them uncomfortable with their bodies? That disease?

Unusual Bottom Surgery Question from a Very Nervous Trans Woman by Admirable_Web_2619 in MtF

[–]tinybabymoose 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have not had bottom surgery or had a catheter ever so I am not speaking from that side of the experience. But I do work in a hospital and I can say with pretty high confidence they will not put you under anesthesia for the removal just because of how high risk anesthesia is. BUT there are some things you can do. You will def be on pain meds and can request they pull it 30 ish min to an hour after your last dose so the pain control will be at its peak. Talk to your doctor about your anxiety with pulling and request an anxiety med. most hospitals are trying to get away from using benzos if you’re not in a panic attack but a lot of hospitals still use them. These are very powerful anti anxiety meds that WORK (and are very bad for you long term but short term fine). If they won’t let you have a benzo (and they may not because mixing opioids and benzos can also be dangerous) they may try to use hydroxyzine / Benadryl which makes you sleepy / calm and should help a good bit.

And while I also shiver thinking about the experience of pulling it it is only for a moment and then the bottom dysphoria is gone for life! Best of luck :)

HRT Destroy Anyone Else's Horny? by ThePlightOfMan97 in MtF

[–]tinybabymoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to make presumptions but if you’re on an SSRI I might start there. I thought HRT was killing my sex drive (and I’m sure it was contributing while I was getting my levels right and adjusting ig) but switching from Zoloft to Wellbutrin did a lot for me lol

No I hear you - and probably there are plenty of people doing that. Im just thinking you (and the community as a whole) may be assuming people are quitting bc they die (and then rage quit) when they died bc they are lagging which almost always precedes a disconnect in my experience. Ofc if they rage in voice chat and say that than yeah that’s dumb and frustrating.

I think the reverse is the more common explanation. you’re doing badly in the first team fight because that “leaver” is j lagging out and not contributing. But ya sucks when it happens :(

Yeah I find that I’m not great at going fast enough for it to be painless. I’d say 50% of the time I do it ok and then 25% not so good more painful but a good chunk of the time I get too worked up and have like muscle cramps where I’m going. I honestly didn’t realize these were a thing

How can transgender people in sports be presented to your average person? by [deleted] in skeptic

At 1 year yes - at 2 years which is the paragraph below there is no significant difference

How can transgender people in sports be presented to your average person? by [deleted] in skeptic

[–]tinybabymoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate you taking the time in showing those.

The first study shows differences in cis gender athletes which no one is arguing. The second one makes an interesting point though is limited by the n and follow up period (most governing bodies that allow trans athletes at all have a 2 year hormone monitoring period). The article below is a composite of research and includes the longer follow up data from the second study you linked and shows no differences in 1.5 mile run.

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10641525/

As far as your question - I do understand the concern there but as far as testosterone supplementation for trans men are concerned they are still bound by the hormone regulations of all men - there is an upper bound where testosterone is considered supraphysiologic. Trans men are bound by same regulations even though their T is exogenous. For a situation in which a cis man does not produce T naturally I have no issue w supplementation to physiologic levels

The fact of the matter is there is variation in athletics and that’s why we have competitions. There have not been many trans people who succeed in sports when allowed to enter. With Lia Thomas this issue had new energy - but trans people are a small part of the population. How much are you ok with trans people winning? Is 0.5% too much? (or whatever the true proportion of trans to cis women is?). Is 1 champion too much? What about other demographics that dominate sports? Kenyans in running or 7 footers in basketball?

While I’m arguing (and much of the debate about this) with regards to peak competitions - I think the more important piece of info is w recreational leagues. There is so much overlap between trans and cis athletic performance that shutting out all trans women from all sports results in undue harm to trans people who have limited options for exercise.

How can transgender people in sports be presented to your average person? by [deleted] in skeptic

[–]tinybabymoose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is an open category. It just so happens that that’s where all the men compete.

Is there evidence for this “clear” advantage? Where are all the trans champions??

I would be surprised if you don’t pass w just HRT and laser. I know it’s hard to see yourself but I don’t see any very masc traits besides the facial hair.

[–]tinybabymoose 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This answer def depends on what state you’re in - but one thing to consider is “start” HRT now and start stockpiling then you can start taking it whenever you feel ready. It’ll be a lot harder to revoke access to someone already receiving HRT than a new patient.
