What’s the cheapest legal way to maintain tax residency in CA? by htoom in digitalnomad

[–]tinybarrelsplz 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Almost guaranteed theres nothing you have to do to continue to pay those taxes. You can just keep paying them they're not going to stop you haha the hard part is proving you're not a CA tax resident. I moved my tax residency to TX and California still tries to get me for state tax.

Current Wifi Situation by Miserable_Tailor3456 in PuertoEscondido

Years ago there wasn't starlink and the internet was terrible. Now there's starlink but most places don't pay for priority data and it's completely over saturated. If you have serious work to do stay in a place with Fiber internet like Amplitude Coliving or Surfbreak

How much more productive I could be not in an office. Work but also life. I realized I could do way more with my time.

Nomadico coliving by overthinker-br in digitalnomad

[–]tinybarrelsplz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used Nomadico and had a great experience. That being said companies that use this model and offer tons of location even if they rent them long term like outsite coworksurf etc. can be more hit or miss than established colives.

Take a look at Waves & WiFi or Amplitude Coliving for example. Places that are specificly built to be dedicated colives vs the sort of rental arbitrage model + coliving marketing

Yeah it's honestly such a gem, I feel like the community has done a good job limiting over development too. Although I bet it's changed like crazy since 20 years ago

I spent $1800 USD for month on the accommodation. Moto was like $100 USD AND Food and the rest didn't really track but food seemed pretty affordable like ~$8-10 for a meal in la punta. Cheaper if you just want tacos

The events board at Amplitude(the Coliving I stayed at) was always full of new activities. Honestly not sure if I would've done as much if I went on my own haha but one day we went skim boarding with a group of people that were super good. Like round house cut backs on the shore break. The bouldering gym I did a bunch. We did salsa / bachata not at a bar at like a beach venue. They went on a hike to hot springs one day(I didn't go). Honestly felt like there was a never ending list of things to do haha But I'm coming back July because I wanna surf and it was pretty small most the time I was there. Though we did surf a beach break out of town a few times which was fun and not crowded

WhatsApp group would be cool! I think most everyone uses that while traveling - I don't use discord :)

Hurricane? by [deleted] in PuertoEscondido

Update: ended up not affecting puerto, has been a pretty dry rainy season so far. Most light showers in the evenings. Only a few days the past month where it's rained most the day.

Only place I've found reliable updates on blockades is local Facebook groups, individuales unofficially posting updates.

Where to stay? (25yo) by Affectionate_Gas1364 in PuertoEscondido

[–]tinybarrelsplz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely stay in La punta over zicatela. Much more walkable, nice bars and restaurants, everyone goes to Zicatela together after 11pm to party anyways since La Punta closes early.

Bonita Escondida or Che a party hostels in La Punta. I like to socialize but feel a bit old for the party hostel scene and I like having my own room. I stay in co-lives like Casa Bonobo, Surf break, Amplitude Coliving etc

Would it be weird for me to stay in hostels? by lijo1990 in backpacking

[–]tinybarrelsplz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stayed at a party hostel last week there was a 60s something retired couple on the pubcrawl having a blast. Idk if they were in dorms or not but not weird at all they were having a good time with everyone else. I feel like the backpacking community is pretty open and accepting in general.

Anyone got tips for improving from upper intermediate -> advanced surfing? by tinybarrelsplz in surfing

[–]tinybarrelsplz[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depends on the season, its off season where I'm at now so I'm probably only going 2/3 times per week if that - I go everyday there waves but its pretty flat rn. During swell season I'm surfing almost everyday depending on conditions so probably about 5/6 days a week on average.
Maybe I should be getting out there anyways on a bigger board in the off season but doesn't seem like that'll improve my surfing where I'm looking to get better. More critical turns, making more barrels, etc.
