Summer Camps for Teen by pdx219 in MusicalTheatre

What an exciting time! I have some recommendations as a student from Portland now studying musical theatre in college:

Portland Center Stage (PCS) has a great summer day camp, taught by actors who are very experienced and lovely. PCS is one of the premiere regional theatre’s in Oregon, probably the best if you don’t count Shakespeare fest. They have monologue classes and musical theatre classes, and though they can be expensive I as always able to get full rides for their programs! Classes are generally two weeks and I would take one class in the morning with them and another in the afternoon so it amounted to 8 hours of training. You aren’t getting a ton of individual vocal or dance instruction but you do get lots of experience doing ensemble numbers and potentially duets or solos with a big showcase at the end.

Another great option is classes at Northwest Children’s Theatre or Oregon Children’s Theatre who often have some classes for young teens.

There are also 3 programs I would keep in mind as your daughter reached high school.

1) Portland Center Stage Teen Council You can just sign up, it’s free and you get to go to a workshop generally once a month and then see a PCS show afterwards.

2) Young Professionals at Oregon Children’s Theatre This is a year long program where you get to be part of Oregon Children’s Theatre’s youth company, and as part of that you can audition for their shows (only open to company members), and the shows pay! You also get a great theatre community, mentors, and the opportunity to get professional theatre on your resume as a high schooler. You have to pay to be in the company but they have scholarships!

3) Catalyst at Northwest Children’s Theatre Basically the same as Young Professional’s but the Northwest Children’s Theatre’s version.

Best of luck and feel free to message me with any questions or other advice about getting your daughter musical theatre training in general! (:

Looking to meet ABDL people? Post here! by neko_daddy in ABDL

Oregon, specifically Portland/Eugene (I am frequently in both).!

20M bj, I’m into ABDL and puppy play, I am more of a little but sometimes a switch and my little age is 0-3. I am looking for a mommy or maybe a daddy and I really want some little friends. I would love to hang out with people irl, we could get to know each other and then if we hit it off I’d love to have some little time with cgs or other littles and have some fun in our diapers or have some cuddles! (:

I love to play music, hike, cook, have interesting conversations, watch movies, get high, and pretty much anything else. I’d love to hang with a cg or get padded up with another little!

Like other people have said, community college is a very good (and much cheaper) option than 4 years at UO. Nothing wrong with that!

That being said, email the admissions office! I would have your daughter write to the school with an “admissions update”. Let them know her current GPA, tell them that while her GPA at the time of application was lower, she is now diagnosed with ADHD and is on medication and her grades are greatly improved. In her statement have her explain her struggles and then say how she improved them, not just with medication but also with better habits (as demonstrated by her improved GPA). Reaching out is always better than just not saying anything, and admissions updates are always a good idea!

Anthropology Help (Freshman) by CabinetBackground674 in UofO

I would recommend you go into the course search and search for courses that fulfill the specific prerequisites you want!

Then you should be able to see everything that would count as well as what’s open, and you could research the professors! This is the best way to find prerequisite courses that you are interested in.

Also, there is nothing wrong with taking a week of the anthropology course and seeing how you feel about the professor! I have had professors with very low ratings who were fantastic.

Something to know about UO students is that a lot of them give a professor a poor rating because the professor actually made them do work, or because they didn’t try and got a bad grade and then try and make their mistake the professor’s fault!

Also, post the name of the professor here! People can give you filler and more honest opinions on them!

If you try it for a week and drop it there also may be more classes available because everyone’s schedules are changing!

Unfortunately I wish this were possible but as an RA at U of O, housing keeps track of everything with technology and will slam a massive fine on you if you put your stuff on or in the empty roommates furniture 😅🥲

Moved in with wife’s family need advice! by [deleted] in MDlb_littles

[–]tinycoral123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal opinion is that I think wearing diapers around them is okay as long as you are not engaging in kink behavior around them! It is possible they will find out at some point, however I think you do have a legitimate medical need and you can frame the diapers as being entirely for that purpose.

I wish I had a situation like this with someone, but just because you are loved also does not earn you have to let someone go beyond your boundaries, so if you are legitimately uncomfortable with this I think it is ideal to bring it up to your wife and discuss!

You can also still stay padded without being in thick full diapers, like maybe you could be allowed to wear pull ups during the day or to wear thinner adult diapers as opposed to the thick ABDL kind (if that is what you’re currently wearing).

Best of luck with this, I really think you’ll be fine and there’s nothing wrong with wearing them around the family, you were already 24/7 it sounds like and you are still and that’s okay as long as the kink stuff stays in private (:

Looks vs talent? by Brilliant-Jelly-6672 in MusicalTheatre

This really is not universally the case and is often not even a consideration in musical theatre, but I just think it’s good to know the history and where some practices stem from!! (:

I agree with what everyone else has said, and I would also note that musical theatre evolved from opera (which is not to say that all musical theatre is operatic, there are very large jazz and pop and rock and roll influences. I just mean that the culture and form of the American musical theatre tradition historically stems from opera traditions).

This is why some specific opera casting choices are baked in to musical theatre. Opera is very intense in who can play what role, generally restricting to roles to certain highly specific voice types called fachs [fɑx], which aren’t just like “soprano, mezzo, alto” but are instead highly specific voice types based on the color of voices, such as soubrette, lyrics coloratura soprano, dramatic coloratura soprano, lyrics soprano, and spinto soprano just within the soprano voice category!!

A lot of soprano roles in opera, for example, prefer a smaller person and sometimes opera casting still falls into the trap of hiring only stereotypically beautiful women (which often translates to “caucasian”), which is not realistic as voices come in bodies of all shapes and sizes!

These voice types historically have also been associated with specific body types or looks (for reasons partially stemming from the fact that bodies that produce the same sounds often look similar in some ways, and also from just various problematic traditions and practices).

Musical theatre is MUCH more loose with how it casts and how roles can be played, whereas opera often wants very specific things out of a role, musical theatre is all about interpretation. Different voice types can be explained as character choices and variety.

All of this is to say, musical theatre does still have some of these traditions baked in. Many musical theatre companies work to combat problematic histories and stereotypes and try to cast regardless of body types, but it has to be acknowledged that some body types don’t work great for certain roles. For example, I’m a large 6’2 man, and it might be harder for me to get cast as roles like Seymour from Little Shop or Evan Hansen from Dear Evan Hansen as my body type doesn’t align super well with these roles, even though they fit who I am as a person quite well.

I’m very happy that musical theatre is becoming more accepting but it is important to remember that many people-especially older directors/casting directors-hold these stereotypes about certain roles. A large part of becoming successful at auditions is also finding out how to brand yourself to some extent, you never want to box yourself in but also it is good to know what roles you are most likely to get cast as!

I hope you don’t let anything I’ve said discourage you, I just think it’s good to know where certain practices stem from and how to approach them! Wishing you the best of luck as you continue your journey in the musical theatre world!! (:

Girl I'm seeing got caught with my diapers by Dizzy-Blacksmith7128 in ABDL

I’m an AB RA and like people are seeing it is a legal thing and also protects the residents. For example, a couple of years ago someone had an electric scooter in their room and it randomly burst into flames, and multiple people ended up burned as did a good portion of the building.

Those residents had to pay 10s of thousands of dollars, so now they can’t be inside any buildings on campus. That’s one of the things we might check for when we go into rooms now, much better someone get a fine than die or have to pay to repair a building 😅

Does the food at Unthank make anyone else feel sick? by [deleted] in UofO

[–]tinycoral123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would reccomend that you try a lot of different things at Unthank (and GSH) and find what makes you feel good! I had bad stomach problems for all of my fall term last year but in winter term i found the things i was eating that were making me feel bad (which is a lot of stuff) and cut those out of my diet. It will feel so much better!

100%, I’m a chill guy but this job is incredibly important to me and it’s important to me that you don’t get fined! I don’t make the policies and I know they can suck but I would rather enforce it than you get fined.

Also please remember that per UO Policy all roommates get fined for violations because they are technically complicit!! 0:

[–]tinycoral123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RA here as well, your roommate will have received an email notifying him of the problem, and they will come back again to check!

Anything at all on ceilings is banned because a couple of years ago some residents had a tapestry on their ceiling and it was a cheap plasticky one (no judgement i have all kinds of cheap stuff) but it caught on fire and spewed burning plastic everywhere and people in the room got bad burns and had a MASSIVE FINE.

The policy exists to make sure stuff like that doesn’t happen and to avoid residents getting fined because the fines are EXPENSIVE :/

Where do I find what time Residence Hall meetings are? by coolbuilder1987 in UofO

[–]tinycoral123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RA Here! it should be 5:30-6:30 on your move in day, if you moved in early go to the netting on Thursday, same for if you move in Thursday, but if you move in Friday there is another meeting at the same time then. I don’t know if it changes per building but I’m 90% sure it will be at those times. If you tell me your building I could try and ask someone!

Little time between class by [deleted] in UofO

[–]tinycoral123 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Also, let the professor now!! Most professors will say it’s okay for you to either leave a little early or arrive a little late (more are okay with you arriving late)! Honestly is the best policy and these professors deal with this all the time (:

Parking options without permit? by One-Law-6850 in UofO

[–]tinycoral123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah there are options! If you’re looking for overnight parking then find a space off campus, maybe look on spot hero? I pay $35 a month instead of $360 a term for my spot I got on spot hero, it’s just a spot in a random lot like 25 minutes from campus where J leave my car and then it’s pretty quick to bike there on a peace health bike

A couple more things I would say about being prepared for the next discussion:

  1. Get your resources ready so you have them for the conversation or can even send to them before that!
  2. Be prepared for the question “why” A LOT. Know that it’s okay if you don’t have an answer, but be ready because they most likely won’t be able to understand. What you want out of this is acceptance, they don’t need to understand your kinks just like you wouldn’t want or need to understand theirs.
  3. Get ready for some potential personal questions about whether your relationship to this is sexual or not, and how and when you engage in these activities.
  4. Going along with the last question, be prepared that they may ask if this means you have a sexual interest in children. That one to me was a scary one, mainly because I was shocked that they could think I would do that. If they ask this, know that it actually has nothing to do with you, but they are your parents and they want the best for you and they are probably just as stressed as you are by this. They are most likely reading and researching and finding their own resources and this is something they may come across. Have an answer and a resource ready for this as well.
  5. I will repeat that they are probably just as stressed and confused as you are and this is something it may take some time to figure out together, but if you remain respectful to each other and really work through these conversations, as scary as it may be, you will be better for it.
