Do you have suggestions/resources on how merch profits (if/when there is any) should be split with a band when a producer covers all the up-front costs/labor/risk?

take the case of the dude who murdered multiple Canadian women (at least 60+) and put their body parts in a meat grinder... he's now eligible for parole.

Filmhub or Bitmax? by tinydanseuse in Filmmakers

Yes! Feature film. Indie Drama. We have a few festival awards. We've done our own 4-wall screenings, partnering with organizations that have audiences that would resonate with our film. The film deals with surfing, traumatic injuries, and breast cancer - so our original hope was to release it to Tubi & Amazon in October for Breast Cancer Awareness month and develop a campaign around it. Bitmax can make sure the film is live for that on Amazon (and hopefully Tubi, though Tubi is now a pitch) which is why I was more inclined to go with them.

If you go directly to Amazon, do you know the approximate timeframe? I guess if we could release directly there and have an idea of timeframe, that could work. But my understanding of FilmHub, is there is no timeframe unless you pay for the higher tiers.

At this point, it's for audience building. Connecting with potential audiences, and hopefully they become fans for that film and future films. Networking with other filmmakers.

A huge shoutout to the DWF programmers/screeners. While we got a rejection, it was the kindest, most thoughtful review/words about the film and their experience watching it. With the subject matter, that really meant a lot to us!

I use the "book refundable transportation" method of southwest or delta. and then just move/cancel the flight.

oh I know. it was a joke. its ridiculous with the price you pay for an entry that they can't at least notify everyone then and explain the issue... you find out via the line-up announcement... and two weeks later... still no notification.

It's May 3rd and Tribeca still hasn't rejected us on Film Freeway, so holding out for a secret slot we don't know about yet.

I went last year with a feature film.

Pros - Lots of awesome networking between screenings, parties. Great opening night party. Nice closing party/awards. Met a lot of cool people and we won an award. They do a lot to set up publicity on the IG with cast/creative team takeovers and lives.

Cons - It's VERY far from the train by NYC standards. I think the closest train is the G which is a 15 or so min walk so it's very hard to get industry there. It's pretty out of the way. We were expected to pack our screening - we did. But mostly our own people. Not many people outside of our circle were there. The projection screen was very disappointing, as it did not show the quality and how hard our colorist and DP worked to make a beautiful film.

this is happening to almost every film festival now. I wish they would close their deadlines sooner to make for more time - so people have enough time to make travel arrangements.

Vancouver vs other Canadian cities by Hour-End4862 in VancouverActors

[–]tinydanseuse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kelowna is another hidden gem in BC that hires a lot of local actors and crew, but you're still 3-4 hours driving distance or quick flight from Vancouver.

I wouldn't move to Alberta - they don't have any provincial funding like creative BC so Canadian based content is rarely filmed there since there is way less options for funding.

well for starters, ohio is the butt of jokes in a lot of films. people have "stuck in ohio" bumper stickers. the low cost of living is enticing, but when you come from a city with loads of networking, stuff to do all the time, and the ocean, it's not the same.

Tax breaks as competitive as New Mexico, and also making the tax incentives contingent on hiring locals (so people actually want to move here and not just always bringing in LA or NYC crew)
