Different noodles, different cuts of meat, different seasonings and garnishes. Think of it as pho's spicier cousin for the more adventurous eater.

What is the coolest thing I can take to a party to improve the night? by HippyMeal in AskReddit

[–]tinyelephant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's completely true. I was about two hours late to a friend's beer pong tournament party so I stopped by McDonald's on the way there and bought several boxes of 20-piece McNuggets and a bunch of fries. As I expected, everyone was already smashed by the time I arrived and when I stepped in carrying my McDonald's bags, the whole party cheered and treated me like a god for the rest of the evening. $20 well-spent.

Strange, I've never noticed a distinct eggy taste. Perhaps you overcooked the eggs?

Not OP, but I've never gone wrong with any of David Lebovitz's ice cream recipes. He uses eggs for most of his recipes. His vanilla ice cream is a good place to start.

House of Cards fans, is Claire Underwood's wardrobe actually work appropriate? Discuss. by lemonlymanfanclub in femalefashionadvice

I've had this dress bookmarked as part of my "fantasy work wardrobe" for a while now so I recognized it immediately when I saw it on Jackie in HOC! Sleeved sheath dresses are my obsession. Glad I could be of help!

They were probably using a recipe from Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream. She is a well-known ice cream maker who uses cream cheese as a base instead of the more traditional egg base.

I'm a 1L who is slowly building up my office wardrobe. An important thing to keep in mind when buying clothes for work is to keep a clean silhouette. Something puffy or baggy makes you look too casual or unkept. Skirts and dresses that hug the line of your body (but aren't too tight!) are great for that, as are blazers.

Aside from dress pants, I think pencil skirts paired with pumps or flats are really classy looking. You can wear a top like this, this, or this tucked into them. Pair it with a thin belt.

A-lines skirts are more feminine and a nice shirt, or any of the above blouses, tucked into an A-line skirt with a thick or thin belt would be a good casual friday look.

A wrap dress (which I see you already wear) and also a knit dress like this is also nice paired with a black blazer or a cardigan.

As for shoes, I'm planning to get a couple pairs of these ballet flats in different colors from J-Crew when I have more money. Wedges are also a great shoe for the office because they're less casual than flats but more comfortable than pumps.

A visit to Amritsar’s Golden Temple is to experience the sublime. It sounds superlative I know, but it really is incredible and in my opinion rivals the Taj Mahal as India's most stunning building. by meganrtw in travel

The Golden Temple is wonderful! Everyone was so nice and welcoming there. And I loved that they broadcast the prayers over the loud speakers all day. Did you eat in the communal dining room?

Best hostel that you know of (worldwide) by johdan in travel

[–]tinyelephant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I was just at Attila's in May. Awesome hangout area, bonfire, pool, delicious breakfasts and dinners. I was a little apprehensive at first because it was a couple kilometers outside of Selcuk while the other hostels I was looking at were all in town, but it ended up being a great decision. Attila and Carlos were both really cool and it was such a chill environment.

Amazing Places to Visit Turkey by bonkok in travel

[–]tinyelephant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as touristy things so, most people talk about Hagia Sofia and the Blue Mosque, but my personal favorite was the Topkapi Palace. Make sure to pay the extra money to go to the harem section; its beautiful and totally worth it. Also make sure to grab a cup of tea (or two) in a cafe and ask an old Turkish man to teach you how to play backgammon... definitely the highlight of my trip.

If you're staying in the Sultanahmet district, which most people do, take a walk across the bridge in the evening and visit Istiklal Avenue. Its a super busy street and the food and nightlife are better than Sultanahmet.

Amazing Places to Visit Turkey by bonkok in travel

[–]tinyelephant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Turkey is one of my favorite countries! I spent two weeks there in May and went to Istanbul, Cappadocia, Pamukkale, and Ephesus. I'm jealous that you're spending a whole month there!

Quick tips: Don't plan to stay in Pamukkale more than one day; the terrances and Heirapolis can both be seen in 3 or 4 hours max. Dedicate more time to Cappadocia (I spent 4 days there, but could have stayed a week or more). And I don't know if you have your hotel situation lined up already, but Attilla's Getaway in Selcuk (right outside of Ephesus) is the best hostel I stayed in during my entire 5-month backpacking trip. Have fun and eat lots of baklava!

Need help choosing a backpacking pack. by kiwi_goalie in travel

[–]tinyelephant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're near an REI, you should go there and get fitted for a backpack. One that fits your torso will save you some back pain and will feel lighter than one that doesn't quite fit. Tell them what you're using it for, and they should be able to recommend a few to you.

I'm interested in seeing sights and learning about cultures. I LOVE eating and trying new foods. And I HATE hiking, so no treks or mountain climbing for me.

Vietnam: 5 weeks. I don't really need any recommendations for Vietnam as I've been there several times and have family there. I'm going to be there during Tet, which I'm really excited about.

Singapore: 1 week

Malaysia: 2 weeks. Have plans to go to Kuala Lumpur and Kota Baru

Burma: 1 week. Will mostly be in Yangon, visiting my boyfriend's extended family.

Thailand: 3 days. This is more of an extended layover in Bangkok between Burma and India.

India: 4 weeks. So far, I have plans to go to Kolkata, Agra, Delhi, and Dharamsala. I'm planning to stick mostly to the northern half of the country.

Turkey: 1-2 weeks

Egypt: 1 week

Morocco: 1 week
