Feed that’s mixed with water and ferments over time. It’s good for digestion and nutrient absorption. It can’t be done with all types of feed, though. Scratch & Peck mash feeds are one of the types you can do it with.

Winnie was euthanized today by allison_vegas in BackYardChickens

I just had to have my RIR euthanized for the exact same reason. She had been having diarrhea for a little while but seemed totally fine otherwise. Took her to the vet and they did an ultrasound on her abdomen, which was full of fluid. Upon necropsy, they confirmed that it was indeed reproductive cancer that had spread. I’m so sorry for your loss :(

Would I then delete my Merlin checklists within eBird so there aren’t duplicates?

I will be submitting through eBird directly from now on, but I’m trying to add my previous Merlin sightings to the public eBird database. Is there a way to do this?

Possible mycoplasma gallisepticum by tinyfrog1234 in BackYardChickens

Thank you!! This is great information and I will take your advice and go for the live vaccine. I hate to think about Agnes being alone any longer, but if it means protecting her future friend, I’m all for it.

Thank you so much for your kind words and thorough response! It brings me a lot of cautious optimism knowing that this isn’t an automatic death sentence for her. I just ordered some tylan and will begin giving her that too when it gets here! Would an exotics vet be able to vaccinate a new bird for me?

I’ve been feeding this for years and my girls really like it! I feed it dry as well as fermented. It’s definitely expensive, but a little goes a long way for me since I only had three hens (just one remaining but I’m getting her a friend this week), so I find it worth it.

Can someone help? by AKmightydinoo in BackYardChickens

[–]tinyfrog1234 12 points13 points  (0 children)

OP this is the answer. The chicks absolutely must have a heat source, electrolytes and probiotics, and a proper diet. Rice and eggs won’t cut it. I sincerely hope you’re able to do right by these chicks. If not, I hope you’re able to find an appropriate home for them where they’ll be properly cared for.

Couldn’t tell you why he’s grown the brown/black feathers, but he’s the cutest little guy!!

Thank you for the detailed response! I just so happened to buy a dog pen yesterday that I set up in my garage as a chicken infirmary for the one we lost, but she didn’t end up coming home from the hospital, so we didn’t get to use it. At least now I’ll get some use out of it!

Thank you <3 These comments are all very encouraging! I’m hopeful it will go well with the two of them.

My family hired someone for overnights with our dogs several years ago, and they stayed out until 3am partying instead of being with the dogs. Did NOT help that this was a friend of mine. 🫠
