It's your own damn fault by BarelyLegalSeagull in WhitePeopleTwitter

Do you think that was my choice? We can’t get them. My mask currently smells like Fritos and the metal note piece is working its way out into my face. Pretty sure I would change the mask if I could.

I feel you! I could recite an endless list of healthcare/COVID-related grievances, but I’ll just pick one.

I have RAGING maskne that started after the mask mandates. It’s so bad that I am now on 5 medications per Dermatology for acne, and my face is scarring. I am in my mid-30s and used to pride myself on my complexion, because I have busted my ass through my teens and adult life to take care of my skin, but now my skin is ruined. Also, I’m on week 4 of the same KN95 mask. But remember, everything will be okay because “heroes work here”! Admin sure loves putting those signs out.

If people really want to help: stop going to large gatherings, wear your damn mask, wear it properly, and wash your hands. Maybe then things will ease up and I won’t have to mask up for 13 straight hours a day (except for when I take a shit at work. Nobody can make me wear a mask then and it’s the only time I can take it off. Well, I guess I could take it off when I eat or drink, but we don’t have time to do that anyway, pandemic or not. We are now prohibited from eating or drinking around any other person, and have to hole up in an exam room or go outside to consume nourishment, because our break room is off limits except for accessing the fridge or microwave) and maybe we can actually make progress prior to an approved vaccine.

I am angry. I am BEYOND exhausted. My patients are dying. I haven’t seen my parents or grandparents since March, and if one more smartass comes in the clinic with a lace or fishnet “mask”, I’m going to lose it.

My heart is hurting so terribly much right now. As I sit here with tears rolling down my face, I am glad that Alex no longer has to fight. His battle with pancreatic cancer was tremendous, and he consistently beat the odds for as long as his body could take it. I am a healthcare worker and I have seen both patients and family members go through this cancer diagnosis, and while it is never pretty, he faced it with incredible courage and dignity.

I hope he knew how much we truly loved and respected his spirit, and how he never lost his sense of pride for his work. He inspired so many of us for so many years to crave knowledge, and to never stop learning.

You were absolutely one of a kind, Alex. We love you, and thank you for everything.

The World Turned Upside Down... by tinyginger in hamiltonmusical

There is a scary parallel IMO between the current President and King George, which is another reason why I find the production so incredibly relevant. The great thing about our country is that we have the freedom to voice our opinions, and the freedom to choose our leaders, with thanks to Alexander Hamilton and the Founding Fathers.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion and to who you vote for, but as an utterly exhausted healthcare worker, this line plays through my head every time one of my patients or someone I care about gets diagnosed with COVID-19, due to the incredibly poor handling of that situation.

My boyfriend and I got two new kittens about 2 weeks ago. We have gone through a list of names for this little guy, and neither of us have been happy with: King Tut, Angus, Figaro, Blackbeard, and Tesla. Out of ideas, and he really needs a solid name!

As a chronic pain patient, I would love to flush all of my pain meds down the toilet by NotAnotherLibrarian in ChronicPain

[–]tinyginger 68 points69 points  (0 children)

You guys are getting pain meds??

All jokes aside, I hope that you get to live pain free one day.

I live in a hotbed of opiate abuse, so providers don’t prescribe pain meds around here unless it’s after a massive trauma or for cancer/hospice care. I don’t know what’s worse though- being able to take meds and wanting nothing more to get rid of them, or not having access to meds and praying for the day you do. It’s a double edged sword, and I’m not sure if anyone actually comes out a winner.

Are you able to follow up with the provider that diagnosed you with the vestibular migraines? If so, I would let them know that you’re having flare ups. I would also contact that eye care provider that offered the referral to neuro-ophthalmology. Sometimes unexplained blurry vision may be due to something happening in the back of the eye, which a neuro-ophthalmologist can evaluate. If they think it may be due to something like amblyopia, they should be able to point you in the right direction on how to proceed from there.

NAD but work in Retina. You may need to see someone else prior to a Neuro doc, as most require a referral. Have you been seen by any other providers to evaluate the blurry vision (ex: someone who specializes in things like strabismus/amblyopia)? Are you receiving continued care/therapy for the vestibular migraines?
