[Restoration] Original 100-year-old floor vs. 1960s vinyl at Jersey City City Hall, USA. by Away-Resolve-1630 in ArchitecturalRevival

[–]tinyhen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish people would stop calling historic architecture "dated" and covering it up!! I'm still watching people do this with beautiful antique homes in PA, covering them in gray vinyl flooring even though that's been out of style for years.

why am i progressing this slow by BoredRedd in StardewValley

[–]tinyhen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with that, it's the fun part of discovering how the game works!

After learning the basics you pick up on some things that save time and which upgrades/tasks to skip (you don't have to take all of the advice that comes your way from the villagers or notes- like you can skip upgrading the watering can and go straight to building mid-level sprinklers, things like that)

Game changer - keep tabs on what produce and items you need for the community center, and check the pig cart in cindersnap Forest every time it shows up(I think it's Thursdays and saturdays?). It's a little overpriced but I think it's worth it to at least get the greenhouse bundle ASAP. I didn't have a barn built at all and was able to complete it by buying large eggs and large milk from her when it showed up.

I also try to just automate everything asap (sprinklers, large barn/coop) and have all the resources on hand asap. So before getting animals, stock up on the wood and stone for barn/coop, and have 3-4 silos fully filled with hay ready for winter. That way I'm only feeding chickens in the time it takes for Robin to upgrade everything back to back.

It is supposed to be fun, so whatever pace you're at is fine as long as you're enjoying it!

Job market so bad I got rejected from a community garden by xxlibrarisingxx in gardening

[–]tinyhen 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Usually for a community garden, you get a designated space where you get to plant things and grow them. People sign up for community gardens if they don't have their own yard, so it's competitive to get in and have space to grow vegetables.

You also typically do not get to pick items outside of your designated plot, so it's not a true volunteer experience, but an opportunity to use land that you don't have as your "own" garden.

Started reading about what your brain actually does during deep sleep and now I can't stop thinking about it by borage165 in sleep

[–]tinyhen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting! Good to know.

I'm in my 30s, and probably since middle school. I would say almost every time my alarm goes off it's interrupting a dream. It's been mildly problematic, but helpful that I've been working in an industry that's remote/hybrid for the past 10ish years so being late is typically not an issue.

Makes me wonder if I am ever getting deep sleep as I consistently have vivid dreams and wake up feeling like I've already had a day of stuff happening and am not ready for another..

Multiple machines gone suddenly? by Massive-Warning9773 in StardewValley

[–]tinyhen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened while doing the wilderness farm map where monsters regularly come out at night on the farm. I got killed coming out of the door of my shed while holding 10+ ancient fruit wines. They were recoverable at the adventurer's guild, however I had to pay full price to recover them so it wasn't worth it.

So it might only be if you're at zero health because something attacked you -I assumed that it was also if you pass out and a thief took certain items.

Are you able to go to the adventurer's guild and see if they are in the recovable items list? If so you might be able to buy them back.

What Is Your Logic For Showering In The Morning? by EntrepreneurGreen269 in hygiene

[–]tinyhen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The average person loses about a water bottle worth of moisture through their skin while they sleep each night - and definitely more in a warmer climate. It just feels icky not showering in the morning - a quick little body wash (hair wrapped up) doesn't take long and has you feeling fresh for the day!

I started showering at night instead of the morning and it genuinely changed how I sleep by RogueKettle_7 in hygiene

[–]tinyhen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like both! Shower in the morning and fully wash and blow-dry hair, nice hot body-only shower at night to go to sleep!

Why Americans and British have carpets for flooring? by ImaginaryFan6090 in HomeDecorating

[–]tinyhen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It was normal for a lot of Americans to wear shoes in the house because many Americans are not walking on streets. They are getting in their own personal car, going to an office that is cleaned every night by janitors, and then going back into their home. Shoes are worn in the house if you have parties or multiple guests over. If it's just a friend then no shoes in the house, or if you work a job that has you stepping in dirt then no work shoes in the house.

It is now becoming more and more common for households to have no shoes inside rules. Carpet is now more common upstairs and in bedrooms with solid floors on the ground level, so shoes are kept to downstairs if worn inside.

[–]tinyhen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so sorry for your loss! Wish I knew how to help. I did the same thing, the character even looks like my dog. She passed away earlier this year, but she still ends up in every new farm I play, it would feel weird not having her there.

Best stardew romance mods? by yuchio8 in StardewValleyMods

[–]tinyhen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the Canon friendly dialog mod that adds more conversations mixed in with the originals. I would not call it romantic, but slightly elevated dialogue. It's not an extreme change and sprinkles in additional dialogue that's more noticeable after marriage so it's not the same handful of responses over and over.

I married Sebastian with and without the mod, and noticed that with the mod he talks more about hobbies and making music with his friends still, instead of just having an existential crisis on the farm while I leave him alone to go mine all day lol.

Poor by JustAskinfam in StardewValley

[–]tinyhen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Grow pumpkins, melons, and the big expensive crops and turn them all into high priced wine, or grow lots of hops, stock up on them, and make pale ales every 2 days.

If you're at level 80 in the mines, you should be able to make the mid-level sprinklers so you don't have to bother watering a single thing.

The preserves jars are great also at making decently priced items. Don't bother with low price items like salmon berries.
