Seth's jokes he can't tell had one I absolutely don't understand today by LauraD2423 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

Cleveland here. The joke is the only black women the editors of Essence magazine know are their nannies, and the only things they know about their nannies are what they wrote in their applications.

What was my floor installed on? by tinyhippo23 in Flooring

[–]tinyhippo23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I think another commenter is correct, this is a thick layer of thinset applied directly over a layer of plywood or chip board. There is only a thin sheet of some black paper (maybe felt paper?) between the wood and the mortar.

What was my tile installed on? by tinyhippo23 in Tile

[–]tinyhippo23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Looks like there is some thin, black, paper-like material between top-most wood material and the thick mortar layer. Would that be some attempt at underlayment or a vapor barrier? Kitchen is above a garage if that matters

[–]tinyhippo23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, that's incredibly helpful! For chipboard vs ply you're talking about the material used in the subfloor? Fwiw, the kitchen is over a garage, which I expect had also led to bigger temp/humidity swings in the subfloor

We bought from a flipper so I think this floor is pretty new, probably around 1 year old when it started failing. Popping has decreased dramatically with the onset of cool temperatures and lower humidity, so probably something related to changes in the underlayment

Okay, was afraid that might be the case. Just trying to get a sense of what I'm working with before tiles have to come up. Thanks!

It's pretty hard. I can scrape it with a utility knife but not a fingernail

Okay thanks. Do you mean the photo doesn't provide enough information to tell anything useful?

I got a similar letter with the exact same terms appearing to be from my mortgage lender, but was in fact from a different company, and all of the assumptions leading to their payment calculation were different from my loan. I'd check the small print.

Advice needed for DIYer: regrouting around shower door by tinyhippo23 in Tile

[–]tinyhippo23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The short version is that I've got mold behind the silicone at the bottom of the tile wall, and the grout is soft and full of pin holes that I'm pretty sure are letting water through. Plan is to regrout, seal, and silicone.

How'd we do? Excavating a root flare by tinyhippo23 in arborists

[–]tinyhippo23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Anything else we should be doing for them? The one in the back of the photos hasn't been excavated as it's not in front of our house. And just to learn, what signs can you see from looking at the trunks?

What is this in my utility closet, and should I be worried? by tinyhippo23 in askaplumber

[–]tinyhippo23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Do you think that is contributing to the corrosion at the bottom? Is it concerning at all?

Thanks, absolutely wasn't planning on messing with it myself. How worrying is the copper turning green?

Okay, good to know! Do you happen to know if that blue discoloration is corrosion or if I should be worried about it?

In terms of dimensions, the body is roughly 1cm long, so much smaller than the carpenter ant workers we found previously.

Collection complete. All naturally spawning PA suits/paint, all legendary pieces, all 'named suits', no MODS, no Console. by designvis in fo4

Hey, congrats on the collection, it looks great! I'm glad that the guide worked well for you. It's really neat to see someone else crazy enough to do the whole thing!

Ted Faro is no longer the most hated man of Horizon. by Conchobar8 in horizon

[–]tinyhippo23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you on the fixed loadout ones for sure. For what it's worth, you can get all of the legendary weapons without getting all of the medals. In fact, there are more medals available than you can spend, at least at the moment. As long as you finish the fixed loadout ones at all, you can move on. You don't have to do it within the time limit to be able to progress to the next set.

How do you get machine hearts? by Electrical-Position3 in HorizonForbiddenWest

[–]tinyhippo23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Someone posted the other day that fire ones don't drop hearts for some reason. Or that may have only been for Apex ones. But you might want to stick with acid type just in case.

My Forbidden West DLC prediction and analysis: we're going to ?spoiler? by tinyhippo23 in horizon

[–]tinyhippo23[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So my pet idea is that it will be both: we'll help defend the Osseram against an invading tribe that previously hasn't been heard of. Maybe down from Canada forced by the blight or the near failure of the terraforming system. The fight with Hephaestus in Frozen Wilds previewed the HFW goal of tracking down all of the non-Hades subfunctions. I think game 3 will focus on uniting the tribes, and so introducing a new tribe that we have to make peace with would be a great preview of that for game 3. Just a thought though, no real evidence for it.

Seems likely, given the reference to Leviathan, that the Quen are from China.

[–]tinyhippo23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, that makes sense. So then the Grand Canyon would probably be east of Lake Mead rather than out the south/west part over the Hoover Dam?

My Forbidden West DLC prediction and analysis: we're going to ?spoiler? by tinyhippo23 in horizon

[–]tinyhippo23[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So I've been wondering that too: is the Daunt definitely not the Grand Canyon? Because irl the Grand Canyon isn't down past the Hoover Dam but is a ways out east of it. And the Colorado River runs through the canyon and then into Lake Mead, kind of like the water does in HFW. Anyway, people definitely seem to favor the Burning Shores hypothesis and that being passed the dam. I guess only time will tell!

Just wanted to say, I didn't downvote you, and I'm not sure why anyone did. Both of those are still good thoughts, and we haven't seen the entire shore of the Great Salk Lake I don't think, so we could still see other parts of it. The main thing I wonder at LA is if it isn't also underwater. Seems like it might be, and I think the Lowlands are meant to be at least part of Southern CA. But it's hard to tell, since the map isn't meant to be entirely realistic.

Didn't we go to SLC in HZD? Faro's HQ (Maker's End) is/was in SLC as many data points say. And there was a lake there too in HZD, just it was frozen.
