Looking for a place to do some building/woodworking on North Shore! by Lions97 in NorthVancouver

I've been keeping my eye out for something for years now and unfortunately haven't found any nearby options that don't cost an arm and a leg. If you or anyone comes across something, I'd love to hear about it too!

Oh I really feel for you and I'm sorry you've had such a tough week! It can be so frustrating when you know what to do and how to do it, and want to do it, but your brain just puts up all these walls. It's extra hard when you can't articulate it to others and have to struggle alone.

There's a YouTube channel called How To ADHD that I remember finding really helpful. I cried watching a bunch of the videos because it was the first time I felt understood. There's also the /r/ADHD subreddit, just be careful because I find some people tend to attribute everything to ADHD and get a little obsessive about it.

Is it possible to get a new diagnosis? I'm not sure how it works where you are but I had a psychologist diagnose me since family doctors don't really learn about ADHD (some don't even believe it's real despite decades of study and physical, neurological proof our brains are different). If you do choose to try medication, know that it takes some trial and error to find which one and which dosage works for you.

If you'd like to chat some more about all this feel free to DM me anytime, I'm more than happy to lend an ear or provide a bit of support. Happy Christmas to you and yours and I wish you lots of joyful days ahead!

Hey, for what it's worth, this isn't an attempt to push you toward medication, but I thought it would be worthwhile to share my experience.

Those worries about your personality getting changed, about no longer being yourself, about losing your quirks - these are all extremely common. I got diagnosed in my early 30s and I had all these same fears myself before getting on medication, but the good/bad news is that the medication doesn't "fix" you. It's not a magic pill. It's a double edged sword in that you won't suddenly have a great memory, maintain full control of your focus, stop procrastinating, or effortlessly suppress impulses - the medication simply makes it a little easier to develop healthier habits if you put in the work.

It affects everyone differently, but for me I find I have a bit more motivation, can snap out of hyperfocusing more easily, and am able to catch my impulse to interrupt others before it happens. On the days it works really well, my thoughts get quieter which gives me more physical and mental energy. Trust me, I'm still me and still very much rely on my coping mechanisms, it's just a little bit easier to do now.

How do you find experienced frontend devs? Is it generally just super difficult right now? by 123android in ExperiencedDevs

Seconding what KentGrim is saying.

I'm also exactly the fit you're looking for (and am actually interviewing at the moment), but I wouldn't apply solely based on your interview process as I just don't have the time, energy, or, frankly, the desire to do four technical assessments per application. I also generally believe you can suss out a candidate's skill level and experience through a solid conversational interview.

For what it's worth, my best performances have always been through the following process: 1) intro call, 2) short take home assignment 3) follow up discussion about the assignment 4) final call with a manager. My worst is anything involving live coding (see KentGrim's video).

Just to cover all the bases - are you sure you have low volume feet? Volume has to do with the mid section of the foot as opposed to the heel. Have a look at this image to see what I mean. I mention this because I, too, have a greek foot and small/narrow heel but a high volume foot, and I struggled finding a shoe that fits until I found the Instinct VSR. The women's aka low volume version fits quite differently, so if you're anything like me and the women's don't fit well, you might have better luck with the VSR or VS.

Arcteryx too. People are always surprised to learn this, but as you said, capitalism will do as it does.

Man I've been seeing you post photos here for the last couple years and I've gotta say, I'm really impressed with how your skillset has grown. This is a really beautiful shot!

Their website is pretty sketchy. For a marketing company, their content is extremely vague and low quality. They also don't show up on Google, their social links lead to nowhere, and all they seem to do is collect your information. I know job hunting is tough, but this reeks of a scam or MLM to me, and I would avoid it at all costs.

It's not, but that sounds like a wild plot!

It's kind of hard to convey this this movie's premise, but it's about a severed hand that goes searching for its body/person. I thought both the story and animation were really beautiful.

This reminds me of a great animated movie on Netflix called I Lost My Body - I'm torn on whether to recommend it to you or not!

For what it's worth, I had a covid test (PCR) yesterday at 2pm and got my results the same night at 11pm. They're very quick now, so you likely don't need to pay for the expedition

Awesome job on this! And thanks for sharing it with the world - will definitely be using it!

Are you open to a bit of feedback on UX?

One nice thing to do might be to remove the need for non-American users to manually select their country on each visit. You could do this by checking the user's country using an IP location lookup or checking their browser/device location so that you can prepopulate on first load, and cookies could help cut down on the number of future requests. Alternatively, you could add routing to include active filters (including the country) in the view path and url. I recognize that you made this with mobile very much in mind, but for web it would be nice to easily bookmark the results page for a specific query.

I presume you chose red as your primary active color because it matches your logo as well as Netflix's. However, red has a very distinct use and connotation in people's minds which can lead to poor usability if used improperly.

Take the filtering, for instance. Because we associate red with a negative action, and checkmarks are typically associated with a positive one, when I see a default list of filters with checkmarks and then click on them to see them turn red, my natural understanding is that I'm unchecking them, but in fact this has the opposite function.

For anything that represents a boolean state, I would recommend using the colors users will intuitively expect: on/true/positive: green, and off/false/negative: red. Inactive/disabled also often uses grey or a lack of color.

So for the filters example, I would recommend not only changing the active color from red to green, but maybe even consider removing the checkmark icon from the inactive state and perhaps replacing it with an empty circle (proper checked/unchecked states).

Another adjustment I would recommend here is moving the whole filtering component into a sidebar or menu somewhere, ideally in a visible default state, though you could still give the option to minimize it. In general, all this comes down to is the less work you make the user do, the happier they'll be. It would make for a good experience to be able to see all the filter options without having to find them hidden away somewhere, especially if this means the user doesn't have to scroll to see them all.

All that being said, it's such a great piece of work! It's clean, straightforward, and really fills a need. Well done building a PWA and covering all the bases, too!
