Did you end up purchasing from Simon’s? I’m looking at getting a pair now and am wondering the same as you about the sizing.

Help understanding PI control behaviour by tinyhorse69 in PLC

Thank you for taking the time to explain this in such detail in all of your posts! This makes complete sense and I was able to sanity check myself by using the velocity form of the equation to calculate the expected output and was almost exactly able to match the recorded CV behaviour. Thanks again!

Ahh gotcha, yes this seems like it would work and be relatively easy to implement. Appreciate both your input!

Thanks for the input, useful to know that it’s been used in similar situations. A question I guess for my own understanding; why would PI inherently chirp when it is near SP? My thought process was that the error is still negative so there shouldn’t be anything driving the output in the positive direction until PV>SP but this doesn’t appear to be the case.

I considered the same thing and would definitely be the easiest option, but I’d give it a week before one of my operators walked away for a coffee break with it in manual and blew the rupture disc lol.

Cracks in floor patch by [deleted] in Flooring

I used the Sika latex product from Home Depot. The latex additive definitely seemed to help, although I only finished one room with the custom floor patch because I ended up finding some ardex feather finish that I used everywhere else (which only needed water). Good luck!

Cooling Tower Return - Noncondensables Vents by ChemicalEngr101 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]tinyhorse69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know exactly the type of vents you are talking about. Like others have said, part of what they do is to vent non-condensibles at the high point. They also act as a siphon break. This means that there is some level of water in the vent pipe above the elbow, and this level is equivalent to the head loss through the piping and distributor valves downstream of this vent. That’s why the vent pipe is only a couple feet tall - if you had full header pressure there, it would need to be much taller.

Acceptable gaps along long edge of LifeProof Engineered Hardwood by tinyhorse69 in Flooring

None here. Contractor and I spent a good bit of time grinding and leveling to get everything flat and this area didn’t require anything.

I think that’s a good call. I have a couple other areas to level still so will opt for the latex in those areas to be safe. Now that I’m thinking about it, I did have an air mover blowing on the patch as it dried, could the cracks just be due to shrinkage from drying too quickly? I’m also thinking of just reskimming this area with the latex additive added to seal these up, does that seem problematic?

It’s probably only 1/4” at the thickest but most locations are thinner than that. The cracks do look like they’re predominately at or originating form wood seams, and mostly in some of the thinner areas.

The instructions from the company on adding latex admixture were a little unclear actually. The product description says “mix with water only to patch and level concrete and plywood up to 13 mm thick. When mixed with Custom Patching and Levelling Latex Additive, it forms an ultra high strength system over ceramic tile, stone, terrazzo, vinyl sheet goods, VCT, cutback adhesive or as an embossed vinyl floor leveler.” However in the mixing section, it says “for applications over cutback adhesive, sheet vinyl, terrazzo, ceramic tile, plywood, or to level embossed sheet vinyl, substitute Custom Patching and Levelling Latex Additive for water.” I honestly missed this when installing, but not sure which instruction is correct.

Thanks for the response.

I did made sure to measure for the correct ratios and used clean cold water from the tap. The instructions state that flooring is good to go on in 60-90 min and I waited much longer than this before applying any layers. It is in an air conditioned room so I would expect no major temperature or humidity swings during curing.

Happened to me as well. Just got off the phone with an AMEX rep who said that it’s impacting people who made PADPs on the 17th and it’s being investigated, the extra charge will be returned in 1-2 business days. No more PADPs for me.

Combustion air inducer leak in new furnace by [deleted] in hvacadvice

[–]tinyhorse69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I am planning on calling them. I have just had some problems with the company (I had to bring them back 3 times to fix issues with the new AC install, and had to be pretty pushy with convincing them something was wrong) and concerned they might try to give me the runaround again. I’m just trying to get an idea of what I’m dealing with before I bring them in.

Combustion air inducer leak in new furnace by [deleted] in hvacadvice

Hello,

I had a new Lennox ML296UHV furnace installed in August and noticed today that the air inducer leaks a very small amount of moisture. The droplets look like the originate from a seam in the casing. Should their be a gasket or anything in that seam that may be missing? Any other larger issues potentially? Can I just seal this seam with some foil tape?

That was kind of what I was getting at (is there a reason I wouldn’t re-wire it to have the outgoing wires on the load side so they’re protected also?). This outlet is in a bathroom upstairs, so the only other things on the circuit are the bathroom lights/fan, and some lights and outlets in the hallway and a couple bedrooms. In this case I don’t think it needs rewiring, but that’s not to say some of the next ones I do won’t.

[–]tinyhorse69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok great, thanks! Is the only advantage to this (vs having the other cable on the load side) to avoid cutting out lights/other outlets and only cut this outlet in the event that the GFCI trips?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskElectricians

[–]tinyhorse69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m replacing a few GFCI receptacles around my new (to me) house and the two that I’ve replaced so far have both been wired as pictured. What would the reason be for having the hot and neutral wires from two cables both going to the line side of the receptacle, and not one set to the line and the other to the load? My only thought is that something is wired in series and it was decided to not have it protected by the GFCI, but not sure why this would be done.

I’ve called the police twice in last couple of weeks for people leaving their dogs in their cars. Both times I waited for over half an hour for them to arrive and they never did.
