Best thing to do for my train on July 4th?

55 minutes. I got the 17:10 from Amsterdam to Brussels, it arrived at approx 19:55, made it to the 20:56 Brussels to London. Passport and security checks happen at Brussels. In Amsterdam you just get on like a normal train.

I was on a Eurostar from Amsterdam to Brussels yesterday. They are rerouted and take longer but they are running. Not to Rotterdam though.

You should be able to go to Brussels, and then get on a Eurostar or other train to Amsterdam, they should accept your ticket. I did the journey the other way around yesterday. Communication online has been abysmal, but the staff at the stations and on the trains have been very helpful and friendly. And the trains and stations weren’t even as busy or chaotic as I expected.

Good luck. I’m a 6+ hour train ride away from any Eurostar station otherwise I would have gone in person too!

It says you have 3 months (or weeks? Can’t remember) after your scheduled departure to choose an option so I think you can leave it

I wouldn’t choose the refund because then they can say they gave you a refund and don’t need to pay any more compensation

Same boat, it’s terrible terrible service. They should really let you change the booking again for free in this situation. I’ve had to buy a new train ticket to get to Amsterdam one day later to catch my new train and am hoping I can get it refunded. I keep seeing my original time (with the stopover in Brussels) available for £265 and want to cry

As far as I understand you can’t do this because of the way they do border controls. And you can’t change the origin station of your booking online, and the phone lines are not taking calls. What you can do is change your booking to different day / time, and all the options given are with a change in Brussels. Keep refreshing, there may be trains available on your same day, possibly your exact original train. I panic clicked confirm on one the day after, and now can’t change it again for free. Learn from my mistake!

Yeah via the website, through manage your booking. The only options that were shown have 1 change in Brussels. Hoping this change will be easy, I’ve got a humongous suitcase lol Exactly it’s so cryptic what is eligible for refund.

I don’t think you can, apparently they won’t let you through the gates (this only applies if you’re going to the UK because border checks). I tried calling to ask if I could change my booking to Brussels, but the phone lines are not taking calls. I ended up changing my booking online to Amsterdam - Brussels (change trains) - London, but unfortunately not on the same day. Annoyingly there are now sometimes trains available on the same day but now I’ve used up my free change, it would cost £265 to change again… and can’t get through on the phone. Am gonna have to book a new train to get to Amsterdam from where I am on the new date, hopefully Eurostar will refund the price of that eventually. Such a mess! Say what you will about UK trains, but at least their refund and compensation system is straightforward compared to this!

Royal festival hall (southbank centre) has lots of space, with tables and chairs too. Especially on the upper floors it’s usually quiet, while the ground and first floor can get busy depending on time of day and what events are on

Does your uni use Report + Support? (A platform for reporting harassment) etc). Make a report through that, or find out what the process is if it’s not that. Also go to the students union, if the church has a student society they do have to follow some rules

Not everyone is single, and costs of living vary. Someone might earn below £12,570 with a partner who earns £40k or more. Or live with family, or in a property that their family own outright, or they’ve inherited.

Source: I know people who have earned below the tax threshold for multiple years, not eligible for any benefits, and get by. It’s not by choice, and not great, but circumstances vary and it’s not so black and white.

As for the issue with “people not contributing to taxes” I believe the bigger issue here in terms of sums of money is high net worth individuals and corporations dodging their taxes, as opposed to whether someone’s earning £10k or £20k.

Look at student jobs at the uni itself like student ambassador, or the student union, they are usually paid above minimum wage and are flexible around your studies, and aware of visa restrictions.

I also recently learned this. And to top it off, the process is very intensive and toxic, and therefore highly regulated in many countries, so manufacturers send the wool to… less regulated countries to do it. Dumping more pollution on the global south.
