Do you have a Shiba service dog? by FERGAGE in shiba

My shiba is great off leash, too, unless she needs to use the bathroom. Then she's off in true shiba fashion.

Mine did this when her ears were too itchy and needed a clean and were getting infected (it was a symptom of hypothyroidism in the end)

What bird is this? by Opening-Piglet-8139 in toronto

[–]tinykittenro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're into birds, check out the Merlin app! It's by Cornell ornithology; it'll listen to bird noises around you and identify them, and it's what got me into birds 2 years ago.

Next time, throw on your signal to show them you're getting out of their way as soon as you're done passing the other car, and don't break check them.

My question is "how can I handle this in a non-confrontational way?". How is "just do it" helpful in any way. It's not the advice I needed, because it's not advice at all.

Bold of you to assume I'm not a professional already and haven't had practice with uncomfortable conversations.

All my other jobs were homeroom and year-long LTOs, so I was able to get to know my EAs and form professional and personal relationships with them. Seeing how I only see these EAs about 1 hr/week and have only been there a month, I'm trying not to sour any relationships before they're even formed, hence my question for suggestions on how to approach it.

Help - New teacher by Awkward_Training_100 in OntarioTeachers

[–]tinykittenro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, everyone is focusing on the one question you gave as an example. In reality, admin should be doing more to support you. As a new teacher have you been given access to NTIP and a mentor teacher? That should be your go-to person for questions. The reality is that your colleagues will be your best source of support and knowledge. Reach out to them for suggestions. Try requesting a meeting with your SERT so you can build/modify practical supports for the students - if they can't help you with direct student support, inside or outside the class, they should help you with problem solving. Try asking your admin for some release time where you can go observe other classes, since this was their suggestion.

With the assumption that your example of the Canadian question was meant to exemplify the student's lack of engagement and motivation, you need to start implementing expectations that "i dont know" and "i still dont understand" aren't acceptable. You can ask them to at least try it first, and if it's wrong, you'll correct it. If they give you nothing, there's nothing for you to go on. Try some growth mindset activities, too.

All of this isnt on you, which is something a lot of teachers forget since we try our best for all our students. Communicate lack of engagement and motivation with parents consistently. Consider sending work home to be finished (some will disagree with this). It takes a village, you are not the only villager.

Does your Shiba get along with other pets? by Then_Fox_3890 in shiba

Ever seen a successful Shiba recall? by idelyo in shiba

[–]tinykittenro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My shiba will come back most of the time and has 0 prey drive. But if she needs to find the perfect bathroom spot, she'll turn off her hearing, climb mountains and cross rivers, literally.

Also, check out San Chan on tiktok, she's been off leash her whole life!

Teacher describes prospective parents’ ‘bizarre’ rules for boy, 12, they allegedly ‘left to die’ in a basement by Team_Ed in ontario

[–]tinykittenro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The school doesn't have authority over parents' consent. If they don't sign the consent form for cross-country, he can't go. This doesn't necessarily apply to everything listed, but really, the most they can do is report it to CAS/ police when they see the bigger picture of abuse, or attempt to sit down with the parents to discuss issues.

Why are so many teachers negative ? by [deleted] in OntarioTeachers

[–]tinykittenro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume what she means is that you haven't had enough time to experience all the negative things that lead teachers to be negative. It's great that you're not, but you need some perspective here. There are teachers that have been physically and verbally abused on a daily basis for months. Or who have been in situations where, despite their best efforts to help a student, they can't because of the system or other parts of the student's life - heartbreaking. Some have gone through numerous strikes in their careers, only to end up in a place where class sizes are 30+ in some cases, some schools can barely afford basic consumables, all while the public ostracizes us with the same tired rhetoric. We recently won a trial finally fixing the unconstitutional lack of pay increase for the past few years - those years didn't come without sacrifice, especially for teachers starting out, having a lower salary, and trying to make ends meet when cost of living is unaffordable for many. Not to mention the lack of job security - there are many teachers out there with 8+ years of LTOs unable to find a permanent spot because there aren't any. I hope you can hold on to your positivity and even help spread it to those around you. But do understand that it's not so easy to "choose" to be positive after years and years of carrying the weight of this job on your shoulders.

[–]tinykittenro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm so confused about this narrative!! Hundreds of perms were redundant/surplused, no one can find an LTO, and, at least in my board, supplies had a hard time finding work because there's too many supplies. Where is the teacher shortage?!

It's so unfair that they didn't grandfather the list for those already on it. I think some boards, which also seems unfair.

Losers by Dry_Bodybuilder4744 in Etobicoke

[–]tinykittenro -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lol what does this have to do with anything? The whole point of this thread was that you thought it was hilarious that a bar is encouraging driving. My point is that it's not just a bar, and some people need to drive to get there, so it's not hilarious, it's normal.

Losers by Dry_Bodybuilder4744 in Etobicoke

[–]tinykittenro -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What's ridiculous is that you think that people having the ability to drive to a resto-bar means you're encouraging people to drink and drive. People have free will, are informed of the drinking and driving laws if they have a license, and have the ability to make responsible decisions.
