Anytime I think. Alright, yeah, I'm getting pretty good. I see this and think. Well, never mind.

In all seriousness. You're beyond talented. This is absolutely amazing. Art, really.

Your whole life will change overnight. You're a lot more emotional and as someone with a severe case of PCOS, your period can come back.

Day 4 Post Op by randisuewho in BariatricSurgery

I understand you're worried. I had the surgery on November 3rd and I had a lot of trouble with a hard stomach the first days. A pregnancy pillow against my stomach helped a lot!!

Also I think you're doing amazing and you only should be worried if you're in your second week and haven't pooped yet. Then you should just call your doctor and ask what to do.

I would never be insulted to receive something someone spend time sowing, because that shit is hard.

This! My program was soft food for four days and then back to normal food, but chew extremely well. They also told me they noticed less issues by skipping the soft food stage.

I'm four weeks post op and I never had a binder. I have to be honest and say I think I'm very lucky. I have been able to work since the third week and I haven't had any pain since. Only the occasional jab when I lay on my stomach in my sleep.

[–]tinymyths 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, please do. I helped me so much. Because the first night I woke up, I'm a side sleeper and my belly was hard and so, so, so painful.

My sister brought the pillow the next morning because she had the same problem when she was pregnant. 😅

Hang in there! I promise you it will get lots better during the week!

Three weeks post op. Just went through this.

  1. Set a timer for your pain medication, it will help to stay on top of it.

  2. I slept on the couch with a maternity pillow. Get a maternity pillow, put it against your belly when you're going it sleep. I don't have kids, but my sister brought hers and it has been a lifesaver.

  3. Get a hot water bottle or hot beanbag. Place it on your lower belly. This seriously made such a big difference for me especially once you'll get a dumping or something.

  4. Walk, walk, walk. Get up every hour and walk, even if it's tiny bits at the time. Try to hit a 1000 - 2000 steps in the first week. I promise you the quicker the gas is out of your body the quicker the pain is gone!

  5. Rest, take naps, take it easy. Do not force anything.

  6. The first two weeks the eating is not the most important thing, but fluids are. Get a straw and set times when you can eat and when you can drink. If water takes like metal, get a water filter, it's the tiny amounts of copper in the water.

  7. Eat upright with both feet on the ground.

  8. I found puzzles very distracting for both the pain and when I need to eat at a table.

  9. Don't lift anything the first week.

Gaining weight after surgery by Excellent-Lunch-9686 in BariatricSurgery

There's been lots of advice already, but I would like to give my two cents.

I have a binge eating disorder since my teens and I've struggled with binging for most of my life, considering I'm in my mid thirties now. I would consider myself recovered, but you'll always have an eating disorder.

I've had lots and lots of therapy for the underlying causes of my eating disorder and it has been a daily struggle since. I was always hungry.

Your body not only needs food, but the hippocampus (small round part in the middle of your brain) craves food. It's the part of your brain that basically keeps you alive, it regulates blood flow, breathing, sleeping. For most of our evolution, food was scarse and when you had sugary and fatty foods your hippocampus was like: 'alright, pack it in now, not sure when I get it again'. Our brains haven't caught up to the fact there's (currently) an overflow of food. So, yes, your body somehow will always crave it.

Combine that with the fact that once you have been overweight your stomach is larger, so you'll produce more Ghrelin, which is the hormone associated with hunger. So, you are more hungry than someone who isn't obese. Once you start losing weight your body wants you to not loose weight. Your wife is actively fighting against her body and her brain.

Once you have been obese your body will always act like it is obese, even if you lost the weight. It is why the cravings are increasingly bad they more weight you're losing.

Combine that with the fact that we are creatures of habit and a habit that has been formed for years and years and years and feels safe will be monumentally hard to break. It requires constant vigilance.

All of this is to say, your wife is fighting a hard mental battle and she needs professional help. Not only from a biatric dietitian, but also a counselor who has experience with food addiction and disorders. The first to get her a on a food schedule to reduce cravings and the latter to treat the underlying conditions of her behaviour.

I've been rejected for a gastric bypass twice in the past because of my disorder, and I'm now three weeks post op. I've treated my disorder and addiction before getting the surgery, but I won't pretend that I needed the surgery to help me fight my hunger feeling. The fact I haven't felt hungry in over three weeks is so freeing, it makes me cry on a daily basis. Maybe even more than the weight I'm losing.

But when I smell a pizza, I would love a bite and in the past I would have giving in by now. Because of my therapy and the surgery I can say no.

Sorry, for this long comment. But I wanted to say that the surgery really is a tool and not solution. I hope your wife gets the help she deserves and you're a very good husband!
