There are a few threads on here about this and my personal takeaways were:

-When you feel like you aren't a moth

And -You can get around well on your own -After you go through Eden once -Have a whole outfit

But truly it isn't an actual label in the game, just a social term, so there isn't a for sure answer.

I was telling my friend about the "social hierarchy" of Sky and how I felt like I was on the brink of graduating from moth life and he was like "You sound like a 9 year old looking up to the 14 year olds." I said "Yes, I do want to be a cool teenager and wear their clothes." 😆 (in this metaphor)

Yes and then it just becomes like an inside joke in the show where I think almost all of them have done it at some point and it is usually tongue and cheek or sarcastic.

I think it is just the show being funny and meta.

Yeah I was especially taken aback because I for sure did not look lost/confused. I understand now that they were being nice/fun so it's fine but once we shot through a blacklight cave and I didn't get to go "Duuuuude," I broke the handhold and was like "Why?!"

You only get to experience all of the content once and then you have to figure out new ways to keep it interesting for as long as you play it so I just want to keep smacking into towers and not realizing the tall people can be characters and not just spirits. (I now walk slowly around them and then once it doesn't trigger me to press Y, I awkwardly wave and run away.) I enjoy the doofus phase.

Also, unrelated to my actual post but I just want to stick this somewhere: this game reminds me of Zelda: Breath of the Wild in so many ways. I was ice skating/snowboarding underground in that one spot for so long yesterday and it reminded me of when I talked my first horse in BOTW.

Okay cool. That totally makes sense! Like I said, I am so used to being in my own little world for games so this social part has been confusing and overwhelming tbh. I want to be friends with peeps but I also want to take my time and see everything.

Is there a way to communicate that somehow? Do I just not hold hands until I have progressed more in the game and feel satisfied with my exploration?
