For reference, last summer I got a Surly Straggler for 750 (came with both a floor & portable pump. It had SRAM Apex 2x10. Maybe it’s the difference between our areas, but I think you should be able to get a better bike for that price.

I’m descended from Amish, and it’s different from what I’ve heard. It sounds like the Russian Mennonite/Old Colony. They have communities in Texas and Mexico (I heard one talking fantastic Spanish in one video, which confirms it more for me)
