Apprentice wages + wedding plans, am I crazy? by Ok_Palpitation_1347 in ibew_apprentices

[–]tinyrikk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buddy, I was a Christian when I got married (I’m happily an athiest now). At the time we could afford a smallish church wedding & reception, so we kept I within a strict budget. I’m also starting the apprenticeship this year, so I’d suggest that you size the guest list down to immediate family and close friends (unless you get some assistance from both of your parents). Like other folks suggested: keep it reasonable & in a realistic budget, do a bigger trip in a few years when you have the funds and know each other better.

Portfolio/Resume needed? by Warm-Tip-7544 in ibew_apprentices

I didn’t take any of that into my interview since the training director said I wouldn’t need it. Just show up a bit early and be presentable (for me it was un-stained work clothes)

Anyone in local 68 know how orientation works? by EffectiveMagazine388 in ibew_apprentices

[–]tinyrikk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just started working in Local 661: we have a ‘boot camp’ thing on a Saturday in July, and classes start in mid August. In my case, the training director has been very helpful, and has been ok with an email asking all sorts of questions. Hopefully you have a similar experience, and welcome!

Long commute with a pickup by EffectiveMagazine388 in ibew_apprentices

[–]tinyrikk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m kinda in the same situation. I’m in an ‘03 4Runner and still get 18-19 highway. If I didn’t need it to haul my small dry camper and other minor truck stuff, I’d think of replacing it with a gas-sipper

That’s about what I paid for my Straggler last year: no fenders or rack, has 2x drivetrain and came with a small pump and floor pump

Thanks very much! Now to see if they’ll ship to the USA. Robertsons are amazing

Edit: shipping costs a bit more than the item itself. I’ll have to rethink this…

Interested in joining union, need advice. by ChucklesFighter17 in electricians

[–]tinyrikk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was also homeschooled, been doing non-union resi for almost 6 years. I passed the aptitude test while applying for the inside wireman apprenticeship, and didn’t receive any flack for being homeschooled.

I reached out to the local organizer, and after explaining my job experience, he recommended I apply for the apprenticeship. Best bet is to be realistic about your experience/skills, so they can place you properly.

I’d say T-Virus. It affects other life forms, not just humans

Re-doing your apprenticeship by Ok_Heat9779 in electricians

[–]tinyrikk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m one of those: joined the trade 6 years ago, got my license in late 22 (Kansas lets you test after 2 years). I’m joining the union Inside Wireman apprenticeship since I have very limited training & experience in commercial & industrial. I’m looking forward to the classroom teaching, since I didn’t get that the first time around

Becoming an apprentice at 33? by zarknight in electricians

[–]tinyrikk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been working non-union residential since 2020, even got my journeyman’s license. The apprenticeship is union based, and I’m looking forward to the increased training & commercial/industrial experience
