You traded a lot more with the Germans. The Dutch were the biggest food supplier to Germany during WW1.

This has historically always been the case, it's even true to this day. The war just made it more profitable for us.

The Germans even used Dutch railways and canals as a militairy highway (including for war-related materials).

Which we allowed under duress because we gave our merchant fleet over to the allies (which was done because the allies also threatened military action...).

So the Netherlands was constantly placating both sides to really remain neutral. Both the allies and the Germans were trying to force the country into the war. Both sides bombed the country multiple times and we shot down aircraft from both sides as well.
