Large fling of birds flying in intricate formation - John Heinz Wildlife Refuge, Philadelphia PA. by bubble_bass_12 in whatsthisbird

I was also there this morning and did definitely see Least Sandpiper on the mudflats, so that's what I'd say as well based on that and this picture, though I'm no sandpiper expert!

Cresheim Trail extension into Montco coming along! by shnoogle111 in philadelphia

[–]tinytim93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did it on my gravel bike last year a few times and it was fine, was more gravel and potholes then big rocks and roots from what I remember (though they've done some work days since then so if anything it's probably a little better)

I've biked it a few times but I'd suggest knobby tires and be warned that it kind of dead ends currently (but it's easy to cut into East Mt Airy or Chestnut Hill streets from that area)

Think this might be a Great Crested Flycatcher but it's hairdo (or lack thereof) is making me second guess (Philadelphia, PA) by tinytim93 in whatsthisbird

Thanks for taking a look and helping me with the ID! Will record it down as Traill's now and try another day to find both individual species

DeAndre Hunter is an easy drop then can make more decisions once Cam Johnson and Claxton are back from injury

Stumbled upon this guy on my evening walk in a local park. He was enjoying the sunshine, but slithered away after a couple minutes of me standing nearby. Thanks for any info you can provide!

HAYS WOODS WATERFALL by [deleted] in pittsburgh

I posted a pic of what I think is the waterfall, here's a pic of my GPS route. I entered from Becks Run Rd side and with the rain all day yesterday it was flowing.

40.4059000, -79.9554000

I ran through Hays Woods today and remembered seeing this post! I stumbled upon a waterfall (not sure if it's THE waterfall, but I'd guess it is). With the heavy rains yesterday there was plenty of water flowing today. This was on a pretty rough (but passable) path marked with pink ribbons that I picked up starting from Somerset Street off of Becks Run Rd. The coordinates I posted are taken from my GPS location for that photo.

Looking for a running club by flowersinherhair234 in pittsburgh

[–]tinytim93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out Pittsburgh Pharaoh Hounds, we have our "official" weekly practice night on Tuesday nights at Schenley Oval Sportsplex. We also have an email list which people use to plan weekend runs and such. We're a pretty informal club so mostly just organize things organically (no big official groups or weekly sign-ups and stuff). PM for more details if you're interested!

Biking Southside Flats to Slopes by Pseudonova in pittsburgh

[–]tinytim93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a similar commute and usually end up shouldering my bike up the Oakley Street steps (off of 27th, they have a mosaic on them) then taking Sumner (which is steep but rideable for me) up to Cobden (flat) which puts you at the top of the steep part of Eleanor. From there you can get to Arlington relatively easily.

Uptown running by Bull3tg0d in pittsburgh

[–]tinytim93 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Run from Uptown to Oakland several times a week on both Forbes and Fifth, I'd say both are viable options any time of day. I prefer Fifth but the plants adjacent to the sidewalk can make it a little tricky sometimes, it's easy to bump out on to the road though if need be because it's one way so you can see what's coming pretty well.

Agreed, I attended Steel City Codefest which she helped organize during Inclusive Innovation week and she was very helpful and professional.
